The better question is "Why are you the manager if I have to do your scheduling job for you? What good are you? Hang up your manager apron and get out on the floor and go to work like everyone else."

People responsible for finding coverage get pay and benefits of supervisors or above. Its part of the job description and pay increase that comes with such a promotion.

I have hard evidence that you approved my vacation. I'm going. If you write me up, or worse fire me because of your mistake, I'm suing.

I was told that my vacation was denied when I was supposed to have rotator cuff surgery. I told the manager that I would not be at work. I would be having my surgery and if I didn’t have a job when I came back, that would be OK. “I was looking for a job when I found this one.”
Funny how it all worked out and I had my surgery and kept my job.

That happened to a friend of mine where I work. He scheduled 2 weeks of vacation a YEAR AND 6 MONTHS in advance as he was going to be best man at a wedding. A week before his vacation, his supervisor (a brand new hire from Alberta) cancelled his vacation and gave that time to someone else. My friend phoned the Union but this new guy from Alberta thought he was stronger than the Union. He ended up being fired and had to move back to Alberta. Every company should be Unionized.

As the manager, it is literally her job to find someone to cover for you. As the employee, make sure you the vacation approval in writing.

"Well, my shift ends in 18 minutes, so if I can't find coverage by then, then I'll leave it up to you. Anyway, I'm going on my vacation."
"No. I need to you to stay, or find coverage. If you don't find coverage, or stay, then I'll have to take disciplinary action."
"I see. OK, then. Well, since you're breaking at least three labor laws, I'll just call my lawyer right now, and get the lawsuit going. Oh, and just so you know, I'm suing YOU, IN PARTICULAR, and not the company. AND I'm taking my vacation, as planned and approved six months ago. Oh, but please, feel free to go to your boss for support. IF they choose to support you in this, then I'll add the company to the lawsuit. It's no skin of my nose if I sue you alone or sue you and the company. Well, bye, now!"
    "WAIT, WHAT?!"
    "You heard me."

I am leaving for vacation. Anything but have a good time out of you and I will not come back. Choose your words wisely.

In what alternate universe is an employee responsible for finding coverage for approved vacation time? Isn’t that the manager’s job?

Do people really say Hey Manager now? Have you ever actually worked?

It's a skit; this type of thing is used to identify that the other is a manager of some sort.

I pay my employees $7.25/hr with no PTO or vacation. My profits are through the roof and my wife and I just bought our dream home for 7.5 million dollars!!!! So much entitlement in the U.S. It makes me sick hearing everyone complain.
