Alireza said he was forfeiting the match and that's what Hikaru was told by chess.com. They were madly trying to get Alireza to play. Alireza said he was too tired to play and wanted to forfeit the match but not the prize. He wanted the 2nd place prize for not playing. That was the issue. It's not that he asked for a break. I don't think you know how realistic that comment was. I was following a past game between Magnus and Hikaru while using Stockfish to double-check each player's moves. Hikaru played the first 20 moves as all the best chess engine moves in the game. For his part, Magnus had a bunch of matching chess engine moves as well.
@@nomdeplume9483 A lot of positions are "known" for the first 9-20 moves. Its really the middle game that's impressive.
