I love the idea of using bags with the labels so students can sort supplies. I write student name with lunch numbers on index cards. Then I have them write it in their homework notebook in case it gets lost.
Yes please do! Every time i watch your videos i wonder where you get your clothes and what you wear to school. I also have a difficult time finding cute teacher clothes that i love. Id love to see a teacher fashion video from you!!
I'm thinking about maybe doing a morning routine video in August. Let see how that ends up and we can go from there. While I love fashion, I don't see my self as a makeup/fashion individual... so I have shied away from doing those videos in the past.
I enjoy "fashion" videos from people who don't consider themselves fashion-y so much more. I like seeing what normal teachers that don't have an extra billion dollars to spend on clothes a month wear. I understand shying away from that category of video, but I know i'd be very excited to see one if you did decide to :)
Hey guys! I would really like to hear what you think about the Ed Tech portion! I am extremely excited to start using it this year and I would like to gauge your interest on how I should share my use in videos whether it be a full walkthrough or tips and tricks during Vlogs! Let me know. Thanks for watching!
I'm interested in seeing a video where you show us how you will use it with your lessons, maybe a full walkthrough. All your videos are extremely helpful :)
I agree with you about getting things ready before school starts! I've been working on mine this week. It truly makes things less stressful at the beginning of the year.
I am a 17 year old highschool student and am homeschooled and teacher videos inspire me a lot and I am all about organize organize organize if things are not going as planned or papers are every where that just drives me insane and bugs me to the max I am the type of person that is like OCD TO THE MAX so I agree with you on having a system having a routine and getting stuff done HAVE A GREAT SCHOOL YEAR 2016 / 2017 😉
I love all of your videos. Could you do a teacher's school supplies haul/must have's? I am a teacher and would love to see what supplies you use to make your life easier.
I LOVE the new student baggie idea. I always got new students weeks and sometimes months after the semester started and I had to reprint EVERYTHING!! will definitely be doing this year.
Hey there ! Just wanted to say I really admire you and have an even deeper appreciation for primary teachers because of your Channel . I'm a first year teacher ( taught internship + one semester) of high school sophomores and seniors and still find great wisdom and value in your channel . I have shared you with my teacher friends and truly appreciate your commitment to the profession and to students .i found you because I'm totally that teacher that is constantly on the lookout for new strategies and methods to improve my quality of life and for the benefit of the students . Keep up the amazing work! Thank you
You are exactly the type of teacher that we need :) I'm glad you have found my channel helpful and Thanks you SOOO much for sharing. The views and subscriber growth of the channel has really motivated me to share more!
I'm new to your channel and I love your content! I can't believe how different teaching is in Canada as opposed to you guys in the states. Huge one is all the rules we have against parent involvement! We're not ALLOWED to ask for supplies, can't serve food, can't hang things the doors or from the ceilings, can't use email for communication, can't take pictures or videos of children in the classroom. It's so CRAZY! It feels like jail sometimes! You have such great ideas and I can't wait to implement your ideas in my class this year. Coming back to grade 2 after a year off on mat leave! Thanks for sharing!
Sure! So we have scheduled interviews like you do. And we totally are encouraged to contact parents as much as possible. The FORMAT of how it's done is different. We are not allowed to email, can obviously only call from a school phone, need to keep records of everything like you. Maybe it's just the school I'm in, but we usually don't "enjoy" contacting parents because there's usually a power struggle and dispute over something that was said or done. It seems that most parents these days are all about defending their child no matter what and don't make them accountable for things. On the topic of parents coming into the classroom, oh my goodness, what a procedure. They need a criminal reference check that's valid every year. They need to sign papers. No pictures can be taken while in the classroom. It's seriously crazy! We of course love to communicate with parents about the good things their kids are doing and I always keep parents informed via a monthly classroom newsletter but it always seems that the parents are either not interested in their child's learning, not happy with what's going on, or just complaining about something general. I'm convinced it's fly's just be my school! At least I hope it is! Thanks for responding! I'm actually SERIOUSLY considering starting a Canadian teaching TH-cam channel to replace my current one. ;)
Just wanted to say I love your videos. They are informative and you are a natural presenter. :D I am starting my teacher training in the UK in just 53 days (YIKES) and your videos have already given me so many wonderful ideas to try once I'm in the classroom. Thank you so much and I look forward to your next video.
I love your channel!!! I have two more semesters until I start student teaching and you are helping me feel more prepared! Are there any other teacher channels you recommend that I should follow?
Great video and channel I've been looking for other teachers who have TH-cam channels as I just started mine. I've started getting up at my normal school time and going I bed early. The hardest part is retraining your body to only use the bathroom at certain times....trying to teach when you have to go is torture!
Hi Bridget! Exactly how do you plan out your curriculum? How would you know which goes concept is taught first and how long? This was never talked about in detail in class and I would love to know your process. :)
Love the tips, tfs. I'll be lucky if I get my student list 2 days before school starts and then it won't be finalized for a week due to many families registering late (we start on Aug., 10 and some families don't show up until after Labor Day). One thing I like to add to your list (maybe your school provides one, mine doesn't) is a bus # list. I never know what bus my students are suppose to get on so I'm always running around to figure out where my students go.
Such a great vid! Even though we're halfway through the school year in Australia, 'Back To School' vids are a fabulous motivation for the second half of the year! Thank you!!
Absolutely love your videos! You have provided me with so many helpful tips and advice that I hope makes my first year teaching that much less stressful. Thank you!!
Hi Bridget! Another great tip-- Review/update your routines and procedures checklist 😉. BTW--I purchased the IKEA (Kvissle) paper tray. I can't wait to be perfectly organized with my paper flow this year!! 😌 😘
Thank you so much, Marlene! Great to hear! :) Paper flow can be our best friend or worst enemy :( Glad to hear that you are already set and that you picked up the IKEA paper tray. I absolutely LOVE that tray!!
Can you please do a "helpful tips for mapping out" video and how you did it for kinder and if you still have an old one can you show it? I'm going to start student teaching soon and am hoping for a K-2 age group once I get on my own. Thanks!
Great tips! I love your attitude and preparedness..it's totally motivating. I am definitely going to try having bins for supplies. I also laughed out loud when you were drinking the water in the beginning hahah :)
Great tips!! Off topic....would you do a makeup tutorial? I love your makeup and would love tips in that area for when school starts (during summer I rarely wear makeup).
Please do a video about planning. What I mean by this is for first year teachers. That's something that we never really went over in class. For example... when you introduce a new subject, how long do you teach it? 2 days, 3 days, 2 weeks? That's what I am stressing over the most. haha.
I answered this question a bit with another viewer and here is what I wrote: I completely understand how you feel. I have felt this same way brainstorming ideas and where I need to start for the beginning of the year. Here is what I suggest. Begin by reading and having students select books. This is similar to the daily 5 but in 2nd grade you are going to have a wide range of kids. You will have some who are reading picture books and some that are beginning to read small chapter books. Build anchor charts, model how to read independently, with a partner etc. This is important! If they don't get this foundation down first you will struggle all year. If you haven't read Debbie Miller's book Reading with Meaning check it out. She gives you a flow of her progression throughout the year and it's very good. Mine was similar but that was because how my county had us teaching certain standards. In September she has you focus on routines and really emphasizing read aloud during this time. Show students what to do when they get to words they don't know, making connections, and inferring. I really hope this helps you get a starting point. I could talk about this forever! Best of luck and check out her book and look up Daily 5 anchor charts for setting up procedures and using reading strategies. As far as how long do you teach topics it really depends. Think with the end in mind. What do you want your class to know. Write that down first. Then think about how you are going to break that down into smaller increments to reach the end goal (what you want them to learn) Some catch on quick others it takes them longer this is where you will need to 'listen' to your class and figure out how long it takes them. I really hope this helps!
I also just watched your teacher planner video. Love the organization! I am going to be majoring in El Ed and would love to make a planner system for school too. What program did you use for all of these things?
I now love everything you put out. I watched a lot of your things and then realized we both teach in Alabama. Now, I do see you are moving but can you suggest your best teacher for third grade that I could follow on youtube or TPT or a blog? I know your cousin has some but wanted other peeps too. I teach ALL the subjects so I am jelly that you don't. I am looking forward to all your videos.
Roll Tide or War Eagle? JK I don't really follow teachers based on specific grades. I like to think of it as upper and lower elementary and then I take what I can from each level to apply certain aspects to my classroom. My favorite Blog is FirstGradeParade - Cara Carroll and I would look into Hope King and the Ron Clark Academy for ...everything :)
I felt like edtech should of been a video on its own. I found myself fast forwarding just because it looked like too much for second grade or rather to me being a new teacher . Thank you for all your tips, though 😁
Great comment andThank you for the feedback! I think it could fit for almost any grade level, but 'A Tale of Two Cities' might be a little intimidating for your second graders LOL...I am going to try and get EdTech to add some elementary level books to the trial. Playing around with it for a few days has really given me ideas that I would have loved to use Kindergarten and I definitely going to use it in 4th soon! Thanks for watching!
Thank you! I love watching you and follow you on instagram. I am @mrslopezinsecond :) Thank you for all you do to help us grasp a better concept about the BOY :)
I know this is a long shot but I am moving to 4th grade this year from second. I am spending all of my son's nap time feverishly trying to figure out what I should do for language arts next year. Our school's curriculum is outdated and I am at a loss of where to start. Any ideas? May I ask how you are deciding where to start? My brain is nonstop at this point. ! T

I wish I would have found you sooner! ha! just finished my first year and it was crazy! I started watching your videos at the end of June when school finished and even though I was so exhausted I began to get excited about starting school in September. Does the planbook.com website let you print out the lesson plans or no? I would feel that writing it on there and then writing it in your (unbelievably amazing) plan book is repetitive! not sure but will try both I guess. thanks for all your dedication to reach teachers to give advice ! you're great!
Yayy!! Share with friends, I will always appreciate it and hopefully they enjoy the videos as well!Planbook does allow you to print out your lesson plans. Definitely do the 6month trial, it is a great program that you can fit to your needs. To that point, yes it would be repetitive if you were to duplicate the information. However, I tend to use Planbook as a macro view of my lesson plans and my personal planner as my micro view with daily notes and my checklists. Hope that helps. I will try and show how I use both throughout the upcoming year.
+The Lettered Classroom Yes I have already started using your ideas in summer school and my grade level was amazed and I shared with them your sites. I'll look forward to seeing that video of how you use both! and excited to see the teacher bag because honestly I started off with bringing my regular bag and its such a waste of shoulder space for me haha. I find it unnecessary (not sure how everyone else feels about that) and I have more teacher things than personal things. and snacks...lots and lots of snacks haha! That Ed tech sounds great; it sounds like Razkids to me. Do they have Spanish books available because I teach dual language?
You are awesome! This year I also made my kids birthday treat bags before school! In 2nd grade I have two groups, my homeroom and another group for math! I also spent time purchasing 2 packs of Ziploc small containers. These cost me about $5.00. In each small tub I placed 2 die and 4 counting bears for games. The kids will take out the bears and leave either 1 or both dice in the small container and shake it before laying it on the table with the blue side up! They can see the dice and I hear no more flying across the room! By the way, Target has so many great $1 deals, I placed a Dr Suess Pencil, eraser and Dr Seuss bookmark in each. I purchased the chalkboard and polka dots kit from Schoolgirlstyle and printed generic tags with Happy Birthday! Love, Mrs. W and decorated the treat bags with purple and silver ribbon!
We don't get our official class list until we go back either one or two days before students come in. As an ENL/ESL teacher I don't get a complete list until maybe a week AFTER school starts because parents are still coming in to register their children! ☹️😫
Hey I keep forgetting how to change your TH-cam name, can you please help?! Also I'm going into the fifth grade and here's what I'm going to do, my homework in class saves time and I can go home and relax.
Hey, Harry Potter! Love your name! (And I see that you changed it) But homework is meant to be done at home....that is why they call it 'HOMEwork'. Have a great year!
Great video! I'm simultaneously so sad and so excited for the end of summer :) I'm also just starting my teacher youtube channel! I'm so excited to try and join this awesome community. I posted my 10 tips for back to school -- check it out if you're interested.
I love the idea of using bags with the labels so students can sort supplies. I write student name with lunch numbers on index cards. Then I have them write it in their homework notebook in case it gets lost.
Love that idea! I did a similar idea with clothes pins on their shirts (favorite) and one year with popsicle sticks!
Maybe you could do a video about teacher fashion? You always have the cutest clothes on, and I struggle finding things that are modest and also cute.

Thanks for doing this video! I was wondering if you could do an updated what's in my teacher bag video!
Hey Michelle, I was just thinking about this the other day! I think it's a must!
I love all of your videos. Could you do a teacher's school supplies haul/must have's? I am a teacher and would love to see what supplies you use to make your life easier.
I am planning on doing one in August. Hopefully it all works out....everything is currently in boxes :(
I LOVE the new student baggie idea. I always got new students weeks and sometimes months after the semester started and I had to reprint EVERYTHING!! will definitely be doing this year.
your video quality is top notch! :)
too cool for middle school Hi I love your vids!!!
I'm a first year kindergarten teacher and watching all your videos have greatly decreased my anxiety so thank you so much!! :)
Yayy! Stay focused and organized and you will do great! Thanks for watching!

Yes. Yes. Yes. Thorough walk through of EdTech.

+Littleapplelearning - Yayy! Yes it's a great time to see how plans are working and incorporate new ones! Mid-year inspiration is always appreciate 🎉
I absolutely LOVED this video! The re-enactments were funny/relatable and on point!I'm sharing it to all the teachers at my school. Great tips!!!
Oh My, Thank you so much! I really appreciate you sharing with others!
Absolutely love your videos! You have provided me with so many helpful tips and advice that I hope makes my first year teaching that much less stressful. Thank you!!
Thanks so much! That's great to hear!

I always get excited when your new videos come up! Super nervous for first grade! Im stressing out, so this helps. I start august 18th. Thankssss!
Thank you so much! Glad to hear I can help :)
Thank you for sharing all these great tips! Do you have a video where you show how you prepare for parent night?
I don't currently have a video on parent night but I have added it to my To Do list. I will do my best to have it up by mid August.
Thanks, looking forward to it :) Thank you for all your great videos!
Great tips! I love your attitude and preparedness..it's totally motivating. I am definitely going to try having bins for supplies. I also laughed out loud when you were drinking the water in the beginning hahah :)
Yay!! I was sooo thirsty!
Great tips!! Off topic....would you do a makeup tutorial? I love your makeup and would love tips in that area for when school starts (during summer I rarely wear makeup).

I am going to try and be better about doing Plan With me videos this year. But you will do fine :)
I love your Plan With Me videos. :) I was just thinking for beginning teachers. Like...where do you even start? hahaha.
I answered this question a bit with another viewer and here is what I wrote:

The Lettered Classroom Awesome! Thank you. I'll definitely be looking into those books you recommended. I've heard so much about The Daily 5!
We get our class list two days before the first day of school. It's very stressful! Great video!
Same here! It is very stressful!
Oh my! Yes, that is stressful. That really makes all of the other organization even more important so that you have time to get your lists together!
Do you have the Daily Task checklist available in your TpT store? If not, I would be interested in having something like this to organize my day!
Thank you so much for your wonderful videos!
Thank you for watching!!
Love these tips.... Edtech in depth video please!
Great advice, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
have you changed your paper flow organization?
My favorite tip is the 42 file system. I want to try it!
It is great!
How do you make your tags and cute stuff! Is there a certain program to customize things?
I also just watched your teacher planner video. Love the organization! I am going to be majoring in El Ed and would love to make a planner system for school too. What program did you use for all of these things?
I use PowerPoint for pretty much everything.

Yes, this will happen...soon!

Yes I have already started using your ideas in summer school and my grade level was amazed and I shared with them your sites.
Have you already moved to Pennsylvania? The background looks different. Love this video!
We will be moving next week. I had to move the camera set up as we have created "box" areas and they are not background friendly :)
Do you have a home office? If so can you do an office tour? 😄
Awesome!
When I was in school , my mom would slowly get me back into a school schedule during the summer .
Excellent!
+The Lettered Classroom I love your videos ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh yes and what lipstick color are you wearing looks nice.
Ha. It’s really the only one I use...and rarely 😂 YSL Rouge Pur Couture 10
@@BridgingLiteracy thank you
We don't get our official class list until we go back either one or two days before students come in. As an ENL/ESL teacher I don't get a complete list until maybe a week AFTER school starts because parents are still coming in to register their children! ☹️😫
And thank you so much for your tips!
Hey I keep forgetting how to change your TH-cam name, can you please help?!
Also I'm going into the fifth grade and here's what I'm going to do, my homework in class saves time and I can go home and relax.
Hey, Harry Potter! Love your name! (And I see that you changed it)
But homework is meant to be done at home....that is why they call it 'HOMEwork'. Have a great year!
Great video! I'm simultaneously so sad and so excited for the end of summer :)
I'm also just starting my teacher youtube channel! I'm so excited to try and join this awesome community. I posted my 10 tips for back to school -- check it out if you're interested.
