My father taught me this technique for half- pitch cricket when I was 5-6 years old. Later on I adapted it the full pitch bowling also. But it's very hurting for the thumb, I was always a wicket keeper and rarely needed to bowl, e.g., in some tournaments of Corporate cricket all players have to bowl, and while I generally bowled gentle middle pace, I used this technique for 1 ball to keep the batsman guessing.

Its easy with tennis ball because it's small, kind of elastic n you can grip well.. same is not the case with leather ball
With leather we can swing And spin more because seam is prsent
But the kind of spin by bending your thumb behind the ball can never be done on a leather ball with a legal action as it is so big .

That's an off spin when we stand at one place when we take a run-up to pace the ball that's called off cutter but off cutter is difficult than off spin. We use off cutter when there is no help from the pitch and we cannot swing the ball then we use an off cutter or leg cutter
