I love Dave's face when he plays this character! :D
He's a spaz and Dave plays him perfectly.
It's that condescending attitude of his that gives you both the chuckles and the desire to hurt him.
I love that it's not even a hack saw, but just a carpentry saw.
Yeah, I'd say they probably realized that the audience wouldn't parse the shape of a hacksaw easily.
Slipped my mind.....
😂
Aren’t you too chubby for cake
I think the fact that Mark isn't singing the traditional birthday song, actually makes it funnier.
Or that they have no problem letting Dean have a sharp knife. :)
The birthday song is copyrighted. That's why you never hear it on TV.
@@Ken.- It was at the time this aired, but it was declared to be public domain in 2016.
@@hrodga forcing TV writers to write their own birthday songs turned out to be such a comedy goldmine that the phenomenon will probably continue; one hopes
Bake me a cake with a saw in it.
Sure, I can do that. I mean, I've done that before. I mean, it was an accident.
Two of my favorite characters.
and he says I'm sure I can figure out how I did it and do it again. I love the nutty conversation between the two.
That was a brilliant touch. How does someone accidentally bake a saw in to a cake? LOL
"It's Dean's birthday for Christ sake!!" 😂
The cake cut around the saw LOL
Dean is so different from the kind kind of characters that Kevin usually plays.
He is so good at doubletakes and high pitched screams that he often plays over-the-top characters.
I love all of Kevins characters but this one stands out the most because of how unique he is.
Dean reminds me of his whole "did you give the gun a good cleaning?" dad in Brain Candy
The first clue he was being let out soon was the fact that he was ordering tickets to Phantom of The Opera. In the death chamber no less. Gotta love the dark humor in that. LOL
Kevin playing against type is so brilliant
Honestly, who *hasn't* had a friend like this...
@SgtBaker16 most people.
SgtBaker16 i haven't been myself
But have encountered a few usually druggies not always
szs voc yes they lie cheat and steal most of the time
@szs voc I've had a few friends that are self centered rats. I gave them a few chances and then it was time to move on.
Key word: HAD
"Aren't you a bit chubby for cake?" LOL, I say this all the time & couldn't remember where I heard it before.
Watching this in the 90s made me who I am today.
"Just a moe" Lol.
You never see Kev as the cool guy ever. Love this one.
Yes! That's so true. I remember one of the other sketches of "Slipped my Mind" where Dave Foley played the super nerd which, like you said, was totally the opposite of how they usually played roles. That's part of why I always loved these.
I had same though!
I just break up in stitches when Mark starts singing that weird birthday song ... just brilliant !
@SgtBaker16 funnier than the birthday song anyway lmao
Just the passion. The guy is really into birthdays
“Any word from the governor?”
‘Nope, afraid not.’
“I’m on hold...Phantom tickets.”
this was the funniest show ever.
BASS MARINO oh yeah!!! Even better than Python which says quite a bit! I love kith and have seen just about all of their skits, many of them multiple times, and I never grow weary of them.
The genuine please don't break my heart when he says "you promise".
That canned scream at the electric chair death...awesome
Same sound as when you click on the Academy building in Starcraft
Plus the way Mark puts his hand on his heart and sadly walks away kills me.
Fans, every year: "Hey KITH guys, before any of you dies like Monty Python, how about you gift us with new episodes!"
2020: "will do."
I would definitely love❤ to see that.
There are brand new episodes of KitH coming to Amazon Prime in 2021. I'm not lying.
@@stubbornpuppet23 Oh hell NO!!! I shall be watching....Will do! Have you seen Good Omen? Excellent!
@@stubbornpuppet23 son of a bitch no way
Fans: "Didn't you say you were going to do new episodes??!"
KITH: "Slipped my mind..."
They're a straight zany and a zany straight. It's genius.
Never noticed this until now but he Low Key looks like he could be one of the Gallagher brothers in this lol
Slipped my mind. I can never stop laughing at this skit.
the more i see of these the more i appreciate kevin's work, of course dave is great as always.
Slipped my mind again.
This is an awesome sketch. Kevin and Dave are at their best when playing these characters.
an autographed picture of Gavin Mccloud!!!! hahahahaha
I can see where Breaking Bad got their soundtrack from!
Yes, because that kind of music has never been used in any prison movie, ever, since movies began.
Lol
the cake..."sure I've done that before; it was an accident, but..." 😄
Hahaha, how oblivious do you have to be to accidentally bake a carpentry saw into a cake.
R.I.P. Gavin MacLeod.
I really miss Kids in the Hall
Ooh, what a cute singing voice Mark has! Who knew?
Man, I loved this show _so_ much. The ultimate grunge era comedy hit.
I love Kids In The Hall but I'd say The State is the ultimate grunge era sketch comedy show.
how the hell could they keep a straight face when he sang that shit? lol
College grad huh?
It was a beautiful song.
And no royalties owed.
I always loved how the each of the guys had an Alpha character..
This character of Kevin's reminds me of Peter Stormare's character in Fargo
Just a mo. I'm on hold. Phantom tickets.
omg....i love Lex & Dean!!!
In a recent interview with Kevin, he said he's written a new "Dean" sketch for the re-boot. Can't wait!
Kevin is so good as Dean, you just know what catchphrase he'll say next but he still makes it funny everytime, that's talent! Dave is also great, always one step away from crying!
I didn't expect a sequel and I was so glad to see this!
An Di u know how to watch the original skit
I don't know why this cracks me up and ended up being one of my favorite sketches, but its just so funny!
Kevin McDonald calls this character, 'the king of empty promises'.
Based on himself
The Warden could have got a piece of cake if Lex Hare didn't have a piece of cake
This is one of Dave's best characters lol
''aren't you a bit chubby for cake??!!''
I'd forgotten about this one, I love Kevin...also the Billy Dreamer sketch, I can't stop laughing ...
That guard looks like Michael Shannon.
I like the "will do" skit where he borrows his CD he keeps promising that He'll get give him more stuff in return and he finally says he's going to meet him for dinner and never comes and then he sees him walking down the street 🤣hilarious.. must have slipped my mind
He had a morning appointment. Hahahaha.
I'm just sick about this...
Another great line out of this skit, one of their best.🐀
One of the best! Will do, slipped my mind and ta ta
I love David's character too, I find his quite different than normal as well
Dave is so good in this. One of My favorite characters
The real reason they didn't sing "happy birthday", is they didn't want to pay royalties. But it's funnier anyway.
I assumed it was cause they are Canadian
Crazy to think about, but Happy Birthday has only been in the public domain (meaning royalty free) for around 6 years.
@@eshim3961 what?
@@eagillum seriously, look it up. Better yet, look up a movie that came out prior to 2016 in which the song Happy Birthday was sung, and you'll see that it was credited to Patty and Mildred Hill. Weird, huh.
Dean(Kevin) and Lex(Dave) should have had a cartoon based on them.
Dave's characters is as stupid as Dean is sociopathic!
That's why the sketch series work. They balance each other so well.
They only made something like 4 or 5 sketches in this series, didn't they? It doesn't feel like they did more than 6 with Dean and The Dope, tops.
This is just about my favorite KITH sketch. I first (and last) saw this when I was 8 y.o., but I remembered just about every second of it. Gotta love the Kevin/Dave dynamic
The cake reveal at 4:05 is one of the funniest things ever
The look in Kevin's eyes is perfect.
Perfect vacancy, hahaha.
I just thank God they never turned this into a 2 hour movie. Can you imagine? the same gag for 2 hours.
i want the sketch where lex accidentally bakes the saw into a cake
Licensing "Happy Birthday to You" for a network show like this costs thousands of dollars. I take it KITH didn't have much of a music licensing budget.
Bullshit. Happy Birthday is public domain.
@@Michael-pf8we Not back in the 80s, when this KITH episode was shot, or 8 years ago, when the original comment was written, so 2012. Warner Bros. claimed the copyright in those days:
"In 1988, Warner/Chappell Music purchased the company owning the copyright for US$25 million, with the value of "Happy Birthday" estimated at US$5 million.
On September 22, 2015, federal judge George H. King ruled that the Warner/Chappell copyright claim over the lyrics was invalid. The 1935 copyright held by Warner/Chappell applied only to a specific piano arrangement of the song, not the lyrics or melody. The court held that the question of whether the 1922 and 1927 publications were authorized, thus placing the song in the public domain, presented questions of fact that would need to be resolved at trial. However, Warner/Chappell had failed to prove that it actually had ever held a copyright to the lyrics, so the court was able to grant summary judgment to the plaintiffs, thus resolving the case." - Wikipedia
So before you use vulgar language at someone, research your facts.
@@omnibus4157 don't assume Wikipedia is gospel
@@Thunderchild-gz4gc I wouldn't except there's citations. And when I worked in TV in the 90s as a production secretary/APOC, no show I was on would allow the use of Happy Birthday, because they didn't want to get in trouble with WB.
One of the best characters Dave played! Kevin's is great, but Dave makes this routine!
"Slipped my mind."
ahh..i wish shadowy men on a shadowy planet released their music from the intermissions
They did! I have the CD.
These sketches always cracked me up. Dave is usually Mr. Deadpan and Kevin is usually kind of mugging for the camera and this time it's flipped the other way.
I just read that Kevin auditioned for CatDog as the role of Cat doing this voice. Wonder how different the show would have been with that in mind.
I have the same birthday as Kevin. I will bake us a cake.
Thought he was gonna anger the wrong guy and get shived
Kevin's very Norman bates-esque here.
Dean. McDonald’s best character.
that song was the funniest thing I've ever seen
He has a lovely voice.
I loved this as a kid but the thing that really gets me now is the warden singing for Kevin.
Kevin reminds me of liam gallagher from Oasis
Kevin looks like Liam Gallagher
it's the king of empty promises :o
The people who downvoted this are just dead inside.
what on earth did he do to wind up in prison? "will do" someone to death? lol
I would have to guess he didn't pay his taxes
@@PB4uSleep Slipped his mind!

“Will Do Guy” or “King of Empty Promises”
Fantastic.
Anyone know a link to find the other skit w these dudes. the borrowed movie

I can't find the first sketch with this character on YT. Anybody got a link?
Is that how canadians sing happy birthday?
It's fuckin hilarious though
Slipped my mind.
these two characters could of made a hilarious sitcom.
"slipped my mind"......got 20 years of good use out of that puppy....🤐
Was that a young Michael Shannon as the prison guard letting Dave in?? :o
Slipped me mind
young dave would not do well in prison, they already dress him up as a girl all the time in real life.
