Just did this on my 9-3 Viggen. Worked like a charm. WARNING!!!! DO NOT RUN MORE THAN 15 MINUTES with the cleaning agent in your oil. The lifter clatter won't go away until after you drain the detergent oil out and refill with fresh oil. After about 20 minutes I was getting pretty demoralized as the tapping hadn't subsided, so I kept running it. Immediately noticed my water level start to go above where I am used to seeing it so I checked the engine temp and sure enough I was just a couple minutes from overheating! The detergent totally ruins the viscosity of the oil and it will stop lubricating properly. I probably caused more damage to my bearings than was necessary so don't make the same mistake as me. Still I am pleased with the results, my lifters have never been this quiet.

Hope you dropped that oil containing motor flush and gunk and checked the pickup screen via a borescope/endoscope...

Yes a temporary fix, but you still got dirt at the pickup

So did this really end up helping? Did the noise return?

Lifters clack when the Car's oiling system is Sooo Seriously Sludged /clogged that oil can't even reach the lifters.
MUCH bigger engine issue there than noisy lifters.
CHANGE the oil and Filter at Reasonable intervals and this 'problem' Never happens.
