Steven Barry moshing is fun as fuck but for me Opeth is one of those bands that u go to see solely for the music and not rlly to get the adrenaline flowing and go ham on some drunk doods
I can never get tired of that song since it pretty much represents what I am currently living in life. Fell in love a little bit too quick with a girl. She's beautiful and all, you desperately want that girl, but you feel like you might not be able to get her. You also feel like she might not be the adequate one for you. But in the end it's hard to just forget since you care and give a lot of attention for her. Yeah this song pretty much says it all. And the ending riff. That riff is pretty much saying: so far in that relationship, there have been some struggles. But at least in the end, there were some beautiful moments that you will always remember. Face of Melinda is such a beautiful song and that song is proof that sometimes the best metal songs aren't necessarily the heaviest ones.
You clearly have never looked up what the song is about. But everyone can have their own interpretation of a song. It is a beautiful song none the less. The song is far more heart wrenching than a girl that simply does not want to be with a guy and he fell in love to fast.
Adam ___ I can't blame you Adam! Foo Fighters are mediocre at best. Sure they are decent musicians I suppose, but they don't even come close to Opeth when it comes to musical complexity and experimental beauty, Opeth's music is so much more interesting. With Foo fighters it's kinda just plain old bland rock with no keyboards or anything. Opeth for life!!
@@raymundoaustria5821 They are basically chords, although if you have any experience with guitar, think "sweep picking" Except more general shapes that can be played differently than regular sweeps
This is kinda where I’d wish mikael would take opeths music. There’s no growling there’s prog and there’s great melody. The riffs are awesome. The feel of this song is where it shines. That dark ethereal vibe is what I miss most about opeth. I miss the big riffs to. The aggression and deathy aspects were never the draw of opeth for me.
This song is an ode to those lost lovers/friends/favourite people we meet in our lives and then after some good times together, we separate. Many of us often ' still plot to have her/him back', some of us suceed, some of us fail but the memories with that person remain etched in our hearts forever.
Mine died after finding out she was still in love with me even though i married someone else. She confirmed she still loved me and that i was the only one to truly love her. Shortly after, she got killed unexpectedly.
Cant believe It's taken me so long to discover this band. They are amazing! I'm obsessed with Tool and to find this band was like when I first discovered Tool
I saw this song performed in Denver for this tour and I gained a new appreciation for it. I believe this version of the song is better than the studio version. The build up in this song was so awesome live... when it finally lets loose it sent chills up and down my spine. I always thought this song was OK, but after that LIVE performance I listen to it far more.
this song is a masterpiece. this entire album is a class apart imho. all of opeth's albums are great but this album being a "program music" endeavour in a death metal framework with .. influences from pretty much anything and everything thrown in there as well as performed this incredibly is just.. i dont know.. doesnt make sense to me. feels like something like this can only happen once in a generation cause everything needs to align for it to happen but ofcourse.. credit to akerfeldt. absolute genius.
The funny thing is when I first heard face of Melinda I was pretty “meh” on it, until that riff. Don’t get me wrong, the acoustic guitars i. The album version sound great, it it just didn’t reallly grab me for whatever reason, but I always loved that riff. Then I discovered the live performance they did on the Roundhouse tapes in which they play that riff even a little faster than they do here and now I can never go back to the album version, to me that performance on the roundhouse tapes is the best version of this song.
5 years late, but I think in the album version (when it gets to the 5:12 riff), either Lopez slightly drags the beat or Mikael is rushing the riff and it pisses me off. That's why I mostly listen to the Roundhouse Tapes version.
Imagine a Tool Opeth P.Tree and Meshuggah show. All have prog elements and there own feel. And add Anathema or Kataonia bc both bands last few albums are def headed into prog territory. Shit, Anathema Wether Systems is one of my fave albums from the last decade
I have just learned this song on an western guitar, and damn, i do not recomment people learning this song on an western - Use an spansih classical guitar instead = much better/easy, and it sounds (Always) Nice
Great show but tbh the sound is much better on the Roundhouse Tapes live show, the performance here I think though is better, just by a little. I think Fred's a much better player than the guy from before the Watershed.
By the turnstile beckons a damsel fair The face of Melinda neath blackened hair No joy would flicker in her eyes Brooding sadness came to a rise Words would falter to atone Failure had passed the stepping stone She had sworn her vows to another This is when no-one will bother And conceded pain in crumbling mirth A harlot of God upon the earth Found where she sacrificed her ways That hollow love in her face Still I plotted to have her back The contentment that would fill the crack My soul released a fluttering sigh This day fell, the darkness nigh I took her by the hand to say All faith forever has been washed away I returned for you in great dismay Come with me, far away to stay Endlessly gazing in nocturnal prime She spoke of her vices and broke the rhyme But baffled herself with the final line My promise is made but my heart is thine
i love the crimson red lights when they play still life songs
rightt
"Hope you recognize this one." And then *not* starting the actual song until at 0:42 -- Oh Mike, you sneaky fella! :)
I could listen to Opeth's discography on repeat for the rest of my life.
Us too!
totally agree
Pff, heritage is a masterpiece
That's literally what I've been doing for 8 months. 90% Opeth, 5% over favorites bands, 5% new bands.
I could listen to Tool's discography on repeat for the rest of my life.
i wish to forget all their music just so i can discover it again and listen for the first time
Damn that riff at 5:12 is so good.
security guards must love getting a position for opeth.
Easy job!
Yeah cause opeth fans aren’t dumb meatheads that run in circles and kick eachother
Our next song: "Deliverance"
Security guards: "Fuuuuuuuuu..!!!"
Jack Bradbury and that comment is why people don’t like opeth fans ;)

Outro is one of the best moments in Opeth history.
One of the few bands that sound just as good live as they do in the studio.
Just coming back from the show in Montreal . Every time is see them live it feels like it's the best show I've ever seen . And I've seen many bands .
Tried to listen to Foo Fighter's new album...got halfway through before I had to turn it off and listen to Opeth. This is song is incredible
I've always thought that the start of 'The Lotus Eater' sounded like the Foo Fighters tune...only better!
Adam ___ This you describe happens to me with a lot of stuff. It's almost annoying. But a pleasure at the same time haha.

foo fighters? is a joke?
Foo fighters suck man NIRVANA was much better. But , Opeth is life !
Too many amazing riffs to count.
Whenever I try to get out
They pull me back in

That's the point, mate.
What attracted me to Opeth was the contrast between the aggression and the feels.
I hope you own In Cauda Venenum. Because its exactly what you asked for here.

Mathews Barbosa And my day too! fucking awesome.
Roadie: "How many noise gates and compressors should I put in front of the signal?"

My favorite song by Opeth! Sounds so good live too!

wow! what a brilliant band!
Opeth is amazing
The chorus riff is very eluding to my ears as I try to learn this on guitar...Which just makes the song that much better. Its not easy.
I'd say this is better than the studio version. The tone of the dirty segment made my jaw drop
God, this is absolutely amazing.
As heartbreaking this song is,.. I can't help but love it. Such a sad and intrinsically tragic story.
The start of the music made me cry... such beauty
I want to cry when i listen it.Its a masterpiece.I have no words.
This is what I call a LIVE !
I love you Melinda ! :p
Music for the soul
5:12 why i love opeth.

Goooooooooood! I've seen them live twice, and still this performance blows me the fuck away.
7:26 i love this outro man
Easily one of my favorites.
6 years later ... I am happy to be alive and with 10-ish more Opeth concerts!
I wish the outro would go on for centuries.
Schön, mal wieder was von den älteren Sachen zu hören...

Awesome, Mikael makes it look too easy.
I had a pet chicken named Melinda when I was a kid...
I bet she had a beautiful face too
She said "my promise is made but my heart is thine" and you ate her, didn't you? xd

Did your chicken get slaughtered by the council of the cross?
i have a dog named Melinda..
I love this song
@heavynov because that's what a show It's about if you want to hear a clean decent recording you got the album :)
this was absolutely fucking glorious
Opeth is the best progressive band ever ... and how they progress and even get better.
the best song ever...
Stellar Peformance
Whoever hates this must not be human
best 90's band imo
why is everything so red
Because the album is red. Still Life is an album based on a famme fatal, and red is a beautiful but deadly color.

Lucien Le Guellec Thanks for the correction

Subliminal suggestion as the album cover of Still Life is red...maybe people will purchase the album who don't have it already!
My Promise is made but my heart is thyne !
Same here !
Man youtube, way to kill the vibe with an ad in the middle of a song... christ.
Wtf this is amazing
how does anyone top this? answer:) they fing don't!!!! LONG LIVE THE MIGHTY OPETH!!!!!
Why is this awesome riff ( 5:13 ) so slow in the album version? THIS is right tempo.
In my opinion the album version is way better than this one.
The funny thing is when I first heard face of Melinda I was pretty “meh” on it, until that riff. Don’t get me wrong, the acoustic guitars i. It is the same tempo, you probably just like hearing their synchronicity

Tool and Opeth should tour together...
That would definitely tear the fabric of space and time
Imagine a Tool Opeth P.Tree and Meshuggah show. All have prog elements and there own feel. And add Anathema or Kataonia bc both bands last few albums are def headed into prog territory. Shit, Anathema Wether Systems is one of my fave albums from the last decade
That would be awesome. Although I did have the fortune of seeing Steven Wilson & Opeth (and Katatonia) together for a show. My first time seeing both.

5:15 \m/ \m/
wtf... you put an add in the middle of the song.
Great...
much better version than the Roundhouse Tapes one
Why everyone focus on 5:15 ? well its about the echo and you cannot do anything about it. Anyway, they played well 5:15 and before. This song amazing.
Idris Yildiz what are you talking about?
That's the keyboard... no echo.
uniquie song from unique band
the 16 people that disliked this deserve to by flogged..i do believe opeth are the best band of their generation across all musical boards barr none

By the turnstile beckons a damsel fair
The face of Melinda neath blackened hair
No joy would flicker in her eyes
Brooding sadness came to a rise
Words would falter to atone
Failure had passed the stepping stone
She had sworn her vows to another
This is when no-one will bother
And conceded pain in crumbling mirth
A harlot of God upon the earth
Found where she sacrificed her ways
That hollow love in her face
Still I plotted to have her back
The contentment that would fill the crack
My soul released a fluttering sigh
This day fell, the darkness nigh
I took her by the hand to say
All faith forever has been washed away
I returned for you in great dismay
Come with me, far away to stay
Endlessly gazing in nocturnal prime
She spoke of her vices and broke the rhyme
But baffled herself with the final line
My promise is made but my heart is thine
Which bass is Martin Mendez playing in this?
Fender Jazz Bass
