I am from Covington, GA. My wife was one of the team that took care of Carrol O’Connner after he had a heart attack. (She is an RN and At the time worked at Newton County Hospital. It was a big deal at the time. My brother, who was an avid weightlifter, was a workout buddy with the actor who played Bubba. According to my brother, this guy was able to lift some serious numbers. they were both members at a local gym and were both really serious about their lifting. My grandmother’s house was featured several times in car chases and such (just because of where she lived). Also, in the episode where they blow up a church, my grandmothers church was the one they blew up. Helped them out immensely. They got new carpeting, new roof and some money for allowing the studio to blow up their church building. Everyone was very happy about it. And finally, I was fortunate enough to chaperone one of my kids on a school trip that included a visit to the Newton County jail. The officer who walked us around was very proud of the fact that Harold Rollins had been a “guest” of theirs at one point. This tv show was exceptional. I continue watching it on re-runs on TV. The acting is superb, with many talented persons contributing to the success of the tv show. Let's fact it, if the head persons of the networks, were so concerned about younger viewers, then, instead, they should have created a tv show, with younger actors, that way, both tv shows could have continued for a long period of time.

@@Yourmomgoestocolledge From beginning to end? Did you dislike the movies too? Or do you disapprove of where it went with Denise Nicholas? Imagine Nichelle Nichols in that role! I think it would have been fun to film the Mr. Tibbs book where Virgil goes to the Florida nudist colony. The nudists found a corpse in their pool.
In the Heat of the Night was a great show. They had many veteran actors and actresses guest star. Plus the local talent were used. You could see an actor play a role during the early seasons but come back as another character. Gillespie, Parker and Luanne were the characters I loved to watch.
This is my favorite. Definitely ground-breaking. But, since you asked, I also think New York Undercover was ground-breaking in its own right. To me, it was the first to really feel more like a movie than a TV series, and I loved it! The execs failed miserably when they canceled that show.
This show is one of the best. I remember seeing it on TV when I was a kid. Lots of good values Of humanity. I'm still watching reruns until this day. They don't make shows like this no more.
It was groundbreaking in its own right! It stands alone alongside the shows of today. Nothing about it is old fashioned or out of date.. Heat.. hits all of the right notes.. sometimes uncomfortable ones.. but that is what gave the show its particular kind of power.. what can happen in a small town.. anything and everything under the sun.
I've been watching both shows for awhile and only just now realized that both characters were played by the same person, just goes to show how good of an actor he was.
This show was GOLDEN … it tackled serious issues and was a precursor to all the other shows that would follow. Also my 8th grade English teacher was a semi frequent regular on the show. I remember the first time I saw her, it was definitely awkward in class the next day. LOL
I love this show. Just like most people in this comment section I still watch the reruns which come on Monday through Friday in my area. However those last few seasons went Carl Weathers were pretty bad. You can always tell when they show has had its run and it's pretty much just hanging on for a few more seasons. Also when Virgil came back as a lawyer and he was big and Bloated it was just depressing. The show just seemed different at that point along with the new characters it was just time to end.
I loved this show so much. That opening theme - I still hear it when flipping through channels. And the original cast was what made the show for me. When they tried recasting for more seasons - it just wasn't the same. And, it also made small town life look good...
In The Heat of The Night wasn't _just_ a great movie and TV series, they were a valuable insight into the history and current iteration if racism in America. In other words, not just good, important. It's *_JOE_* Don Baker BTW. Not John.

This was one of my favorite shows and I only started watching it around 2020. The Chief was my favorite character. I loved his dry sense of humor. I’ve watched every single episode and a couple of them multiple times. 🥰

I love it I seriously watch it every at 11am. Matlock is also a good show very well put together. Also “Murder She Wrote”. The best shows, great actors and such heartfelt stories. Also something about the theme song just grabs my attention every single time. In The Heat of The Night comes on every day on Bounce TV usually from 2:00-4: five (5) days a week here in Toledo Ohio. I watch it every day, I Love it
I know that O'Connor purposely wrote his lines towards Parker, especially condescending, but it wore me down to see that nearly every time O'Connor spoke to Parker, it was with a distasteful tone. I mean, I get it, but I don't. Maybe I'm too sensitive. Hart was definitely there for the paycheck. The favoritism shown to Hugh was obvious. I get that to, but it was thinly vailed. Huge pulled off the southern accent seemingly effortlessly. Unlike O'Connor.....I refused to watch the series when it first came out because of O'Connors horrible attempt to drawl lengthened vowels. I was embarrassed for him. I, however, enjoyed the reruns. Things that irritated me were running the siren on the patrol car all the way to the scene! Heat would use the same actors over and over again as different characters. Aunt Etta was very irritating and difficult to listen to. Vacant. I knew when Rollins was acting while he was high. I could go on. Maybe you could add to this rant. The sound effects added so much to the program. The birds chirping. The trains horn. The piano music segue. The baa doo bee dee do do do's.....like some kind of Cajun yodeling? My favorite cast member was Sheriff McComb!
My Parents and everyone they knew watched this show. I think one other aspect was being overlooked. A new inflationary period had kicked in about 93. Most households had already lost both parents to work hours and extra overtime. Those unfortunate enough to have started a business between 89-91 lost it for the same reason in Q3 2022. No one wanted to spend on extras or new projects until things stabilized. Forced back to their Unions or Office Cubicle, they just didn't have time to watch it anymore. And most were in their low-mid 30's. Not 60+ So who was left at home? Que in 90201.
Wonderful cast. The nicest and most talented people are not immune from the woes of addiction. Very sad the two gentlemen whose lives were cut way too short. My late wife & I loved this show.
Excellent deep dive into facts. This show aired when I was younger and was one of my mother’s favorites! Nice to see the behind-the-scenes info. I knew about Carroll O’Connor’s son and also Harold Rawlings’s issues, but there were so many other juicy tidbits to gobble up. Appreciate it. Signed GW’s family member T

Thank you for touching on this show. Grew up watching this show and I can easily watch it now. Reminds me of watching this with my grandparents and my mom. Everybody I knew loved it.
I was there every day as I lived in Covington from 1973-1998 {moved 2 hours south} & was an extra in quite a few episodes! In 1990 I had a Ttop Z28 that was used in an episode but I reckon it was left on the cutting room floor! It was also the same square where I was during the filming of the first episode of Dukes of Hazzard in 1978, I was standing in front of Harper's Dime store {red building} as the general slides onto the square being chased by Roscoe {TH-cam video Dukes Of Hazzard : Chase From 1st Episode}! I was also on the opposite side of the square when Burt Reynolds landed his plane to get beer in Cannonball Run 1981, I was one of the folks getting out of the way as the plane turns around! I was lucky enough to see some of the filming of Smokey & the Bandit the summer of '76 around Jonesboro, Conyers & Lithonia! Had a lot of great memories growing up in Covington - GO DAWGS ✌💖☮

I still love this show!!!
Thanks for the inside scoop, Nick😃
This is my favorite. Definitely ground-breaking. But, since you asked, I also think New York Undercover was ground-breaking in its own right. To me, it was the first to really feel more like a movie than a TV series, and I loved it! The execs failed miserably when they canceled that show.
NEW YORK UNDERCOVER'S THEME SONGS IS A PART OF MY EARLIEST MEMORIES! I LOVED THAT SHOW!
True..
@@MalcolmTurnerKingWhat's that got to do with the heat of the night?
This show is one of the best. I remember seeing it on TV when I was a kid. Lots of good values Of humanity. I'm still watching reruns until this day. They don't make shows like this no more.
It was groundbreaking in its own right! It stands alone alongside the shows of today. Nothing about it is old fashioned or out of date.. Heat.. hits all of the right notes.. sometimes uncomfortable ones.. but that is what gave the show its particular kind of power.. what can happen in a small town.. anything and everything under the sun.
I love the fact that Archie played such a different character than we were used to seeing ❤️
Caroll O’Connor
@@eaqua56yes.
I've been watching both shows for awhile and only just now realized that both characters were played by the same person, just goes to show how good of an actor he was.
Absolutely one of the very best shows ever produced!
This show was GOLDEN … it tackled serious issues and was a precursor to all the other shows that would follow. Also my 8th grade English teacher was a semi frequent regular on the show. I remember the first time I saw her, it was definitely awkward in class the next day. LOL
Who was that?
Not John.
Word!! Old people loved it!!
Buford Pusser.
You are absolutely right. By the way some young people loved the show as well. I was in my early 20's when the show was on and I absolutely loved it. 🤷🏽♀️
They should bring it back with Virgil kid's one being a lawyer and one being a detective and bubba as the chief especially in this day and age
Walking Tall......Another great movie
This show has gotten me through the pandemic working from home. I like when you would see a person play a different character in the show.
Councilwoman Harriet Delong, my fav. , fan.of Denise Nicholas since Room 222 days, Carol O'Conner is superb in his role, great cast of characters
I still watch the reruns. Love this show.
I grew up in Covington during filming. It was a part of life, these things were common knowledge but cool it is out there now for another generation.
Me too, lived there from the early 70s to the late 90s - Ficquett, Sharp & Newton County Rams
I love in the Heat of The Night. I still watch the reruns.
I watched it here in the Netherlands when I was a student in the 90s. Great series!
They call me Mister Tibbs👍😎
One of the finest shows I have watched in my 52 years of life. Sparta, MS is not far from my parents hometown. So it has a sentimental place for me. Still watch it a few times a week today.
I love this show! Still watch it now!!
This was one of my favorite shows and I only started watching it around 2020. The Chief was my favorite character. I loved his dry sense of humor. I’ve watched every single episode and a couple of them multiple times. 🥰
One of my all time favorite shows. Bubba and Lonnie Jameson are my favorite characters. Least favorite was Althea (sometimes I wondered if the writers intentionally made her annoying).
Yes! She annoyed me & my husband 😂
I agree, Althea was an annoying character.
@@sharonsmalls6846 She left for In Living Color. The only time I liked seeing her was the 2 part episode Brotherly Love. Why? The excellent actor who played Raj(Roger) who was her husband on What’s Happening Now was in those episodes
@@wow77777
I love the actress Anne Marie Johnson, she was hilarious in the movie I'm going to get you sucka. It was also, the first time I saw Chris Rock. I disliked the character Althea. Which shows how well the actress played the role. Lol! I never confuse the role/character that the actor/actress has crafted.
She played her role
I LOVED this show!! "In the Heat of the Night" was groundbreaking TV with interesting stories and solid characters and yes the opening theme has a special place in my heart too! It was a real tragedy to lose Hugh O'Connor to suicide he was a great actor that had so much of his father in him🙏❤ Thanks for this video it brought back some great memories❤🙏👍
Who was Hugh O'Connors father?
@@gryzzl233 Carroll O'Connor the actor that played Chief Gillespie🙏❤
@@kyleking284 Hugh O'Connor was adopted by Carol.
Yeah, Carroll O'CONNOR Sued The Drug Dealer that sold Hugh his dope. He actually confronted him in Court. 😢, RIP Archie 👊
That dude could not act at all
Till this day this is my favorite show. It’s so well produced and the scenarios are still relevant to today’s society. Race is still a factor. This show still holds up today. I love it I seriously watch it every at 11am. Matlock is also a good show very well put together. Also “Murder She Wrote”. The best shows, great actors and such heartfelt stories. Also something about the theme song just grabs my attention every single time. You can feel the emotion in his voice, when he sings “I’ve got trouuuuuble on my mind” I’m so happy you covered this show. I just love this show so much and it reminds me of my childhood. I use to watch it with my grandparents ❤️😊.
On of the best shows ever. It dealt with thought provoking subject matter and never once felt "woke". They don't make em like that anymore. 😀
*"NUFF SAID"™️*
My Momma loved this show back in the day. Thank you for breaking it down.
This is my show....I still watch reruns
My mom introduced me to all these great shows especially the heat of the night. I am now 59 yrs of age and still watch these all the terms. Love all the comment section.😂❤😂❤🎉❤😂❤😂❤😂❤
In The Heat of The Night comes on every day on Bounce TV usually from 2:00-4: five (5) days a week here in Toledo Ohio. I watch it every day, I Love it
And for people that have Roku it's on Pluto TV they run a two hour block starting at 7:00 p.m.
"Parker, every time I look up and not see near that telephone I get nervous! 🤣🤣
Not 60+
So who was left at home? Que in 90201.
I love that you mentioned the economy.
Good analysis. Living through those times I concur!
I'm 46 & still watch this show! Today 2022
Wonderful cast. The nicest and most talented people are not immune from the woes of addiction. Very sad the two gentlemen whose lives were cut way too short. My late wife & I loved this show.
I absolutely love this show and I watch the repeats all day!!
The television show In the Heat of the Night is one of my 6 favorite TV shows of all time. And the movie is one of my top 4 movies.
I still watch this show. The writing is sooo good. This show started while I was in high school. As I watch it now, I can better appreciate how well the show was written.
Grew up watching this show with my grandma. This show was just ahead of it's time.
I still watching In the heat of the Night reruns.
Loved this. Would like to see more in the heat of the night content!
One of my favorite shows back in the day!
My folks and I have seen every episode. As a Georgia boy this is my favorite TV cop show hands down.
I remember this show from when I was little. Interesting seeing all the inter workings, behind the scenes facts, how things played out with it. Greet video.
A great show. I still watch the re-run almost every day.
I used to love this show. I enjoyed your telling how it ended. Great job
Wow I haven't thought about this show in a LONG time, my mom loved it. I can remember her watching it pretty regularly when I was a kid. RIP mom, she'd have loved learning about all this
Love this show! That is all!
Great show. Did not work for the State of Georgia until 10 years later, but know all about Covington, Georgia since it is the county seat for Newton County. I worked for the Georgia DMVS in Conyers, Georgia right down the road.
A great show! We need more shows like that on TV! Amen on that🙏🙏
My mom and I watched every episode several times it was one of her favorites good times.thanks for airing this
Yes the series is as good as the film! With the musical score of the actors the writing I never read the source material the book but I saw the movie when I was very young🥰 rest in peace Carol O’Connor and Hugh o’Connor🙏🏻😢
I still to this day love to watch this show. Very few shows from back then hold up today. This one does
Good point
It was the best! My favorite character was Bubba and then Virgil. I just binge watched every episode last year. I still love it!
Such a great show. I watch reruns every day, several times a day. Never tire of this show.
I remember watching re runs of In the heat of the night on WGN back in the 90s
Yeah buddy 👍
Such a good television 📺 show. Quality acting and quality scripts. I remember watching the show faithfully in the nineties. Good take on southern life and small town life.
Love this show still watching it.
I worked on the show for the last 78 episodes. It was a great experience, and Carroll and his family were amazing people.
One of my favorite shows ever!
Watched Heat today. And i had questions. So I started googling stuff as I usually do when watching tv these days. It’s so wonderful to be able to do this. Anyway that’s how I got here. 😊
Who else remembers their granny watching this. I would stay watching it for hours with her. It was the only old tv show I liked
All I know my mom use to watch this back in the days not my grandma
I used to watch this show with my grandma when I was a very little kid and she was still alive. I barely remembered anything about it and now I'm crying over a cop show from the 80s. Thank you. Sincerely thank you.
I love this show - when Amazon Prime uploaded the series, my mom and I watched it from first episode to the very last and found ourselves rewatching it again and again lol. For her, it was reliving old times, and for me, it was a great show I never seen before starring Carroll, whom I love.
I'm always impressed by the quality of your videos. Excited for what's to come.
I love that show! I still watch it on Me TV and Pluto.
Me too
I just love ME Tv!!! I enjoy all the old classic TV shows😁
I remember absolutely living this show as a kid. This video makes me think I need to watch it as an adult. Bet it's even better now.
I would love to get the series on dvd. I liked the story lines, that were in the series.
It is available on E-bay. The 8th season, made up of 2hr movies is hard to get.
It’s free on Amazon prime
I have season 1 and 2 on DVD!
I watch the film every time it’s on TV & I still watch the series reruns everyday at 11am. Still love both as much as the first time I watched them. I’m 70 now, but have continued to be a fan of both from the beginning. ❤
Loved this show.
In the Heat of the Night the movie was by far my favorite. But I used to catch the TV show from time to time with my dad before his passing. It brings back great memories seeing these clips from the show. Also, Howard Rolins died in '96. I heard complications with AIDS, but it turns out it was lymphoma. Thank you for this trip down memory lane.
I love In The Heat Of The Night! I watch the reruns almost everyday on ME TV! Carroll O"Connor and Howard Rollins Jr were magnificent! I loved all of the characters, Bubba, Lou Ann, Sweet, Parker, Althea, Lonnie, Harriet and the other actors!! The stories were genuine!! It's a shame that Howard and Hugh"s drug addiction destroyed their lives!!
I loved this walk down memory lane.. and this only reaffirmed my love for Carol O’Connor (RIP) 🥰🥰🥰
Great show!! It sounds cliche, but they just don't make them like this anymore. Hopefully one day quality content like this will come back.
This show will always will special to me. I used to watch this with my grandpa in re runs. Very good show with absolutely great chemistry in actors/actresses.
My favorite show ever! I watch it over and over! I love this show❤️ All the characters were absolutely wonderful. Carroll O Connor was my favorite as Chief Gillespie. I cried when Carroll O Connor passed away😥 A truly great actor and human being ❤️
Excellent series....
This is the best show including today's shows for a cop drama and so much more that I've ever watched , I continuously watch reruns of this show it is so good and the story lines are so believable, a well written sitcom if I could pick one show past and present day this would be it that's the best on TV
Excellent job with telling their story of the show. I personally absolutely love it. I still watch to this very day. True story one of my dear childhood friends was an extra in a episode when filmed in Louisiana. I loved the character Sweets. There were others that I loved too over the years. Just a great great great show. They don’t make shows like that anymore. Different day and time. One that I truly miss.
I love this show
I watch it every chance I get. Reruns are great too. 👍
One of my favorite shows coming up. Actually started rewatching the shows.
As a kid and adult this show was fantastic. Great stories , very relatable , ground breaking and engaging. As a kid I’d binge watch on this show
The acting was superb.
It’s one of the top 5 greatest police programs ever created. My favorite character will always be bubba skinner and yes it’s better than the book.
I used to watch this with my granny all the time as a kid. This is still one of my favorite shows.
