Wendigos are from the Algonquin native legends. It's a corporeal spirit animal that looks just as it was described in this story, has super human strength, super human agility, but worst of all... IT HAS AN INSATIABLE HUNGER FOR HUMAN FLESH. They are also said to be able to mimic the sounds of any person or animal. Other versions of the Wendigo are explained as a roaming demonic spirit that can inhabit or possess certain people, particularly in times of isolation and starvation, that turns them into bloodthirsty cannibals. This version of the Wendigo is called Wendigo-Psychosis. Look up the story of the native american named Swift Runner who murdered and cannibalized his whole family in Alberta.
That was terrifying. When you were describing it I thought Rake, until you said it had horns. I wouldn't go back either. I always look forward to hearing your stories. Stay safe with that Death Whistle, don't need a cryptid after you.
loving the idea that someone was close enough to hear that whistle and promptly broke camp and ran back to the car park - they'll be getting in touch with Chris to let him know of their encounter with a skinwalker screamer in no time 🤣🤣
I actually had a similar thought watching this. I think my DnD group is going to run into some "haunted" woods that's actually just locals tying these death whistles up in trees to scare off trespassers. Only, once they discover the ruse and remove all the whistles... they screaming isn't going to stop.... 👀👻💀😂
Incredible story as always, Chris. I think this might rank in my favorites. There is a lot of folklore out there about the Wendigo. It is a creature of Algonquin (a Native American nation) legend. The most uncomplicated description is that they are creatures that possess people in the cold north and make them hunger for human flesh. However, the way the Algonquin describe the Wendigo does not include antlers. Someone should delve into Native legends to find out what that creature is. If you want to learn more about the legend of the Wendigo, I'd recommend Hammerson Peters TH-cam channel. He's a Canadian folklorist who delved deep into that legend and other Indian legends. His stuff on the Wendigo is terrifying and the descriptions are gory. Take care while listening/watching.
I think that windigos can come in almost any form, like a shape shifter. I also think, that in First Nation culture, you're not suppose to talk about them.
That could've also been a rake. They are the most terrifying cryptids that exist in my opinion. They don't hesitate to attack people and make absolutely horrible noises.
Vic Cundiff's Dogman Encounters channel has a sighting/encounter story or two from Sweden. And another channel featured a dogman preying on a pig farm in Sweden a whle back -- if I can find the link, I'll post it for you. Warm regards from Austria.
As soon as you described it, I knew it was a Wendigo - I actually didn't see the title of this video because I clicked on "play all" your channel page to play while I am doing some re-organization in my Crafty-Music Lounge. Always get a medal door - they can break thru wooden ones. They will tear you apart and eat you. It's difficult to kill them. Different stories have different ways: stabbing them over and over again, sledgehammer it to death, shoot it to death using several firearms at the same time going through several cartridges, and using silver bullets or knife - yes, the last one no joking. You have to figure out how to do this before it kills or disables you, which is really difficult. Of course, this is all that I've heard on similar videos with no real way to vet what's been said since I am not sure if they're even real. But just in case, you all know what to try. The best thing to do is escape via vehicle as fast you can.
Chris- one of the cardinal rules of the forest is to never whistle when there- it will draw wendigos, also speaking their name will attract them. They are also able to mimic human voices.
What a spooky story. Thank you Chris. The thought of running into a Windago is horrifying. The 12 gauge I carry while camping may or may not be of adequate size, but….
Chris, that was a fun one! Each time you blew that whistle, I couldn't help imagining someone camping alone nearby and freaking out. You should bring a set of antlers next time, too!
Holy cow Chris this story, that whistle and a windago which i never heard of was another reason why i only camp at resorts. Spent 8 and a half years in northern Idaho. Beautiful country with deer, bears and wild life. No Windagos or big foots. I totally believe these things exists. You are an amazing man with amazing stories. Thank God people have someone to tell their stories to💜
Wow that’s good one. Holy moly..I wish I could understand more what they thought it was during the encounter, we’re they in complete silence? Great job. Ummm maybe leave that death whistle at home. You might be letting out a mating call. Lol. Plus it is creepy, However that was fun part of the story bringing it out
Geez Chris, maybe you shouldn't blow that whistle while you're in the woods, that white thing could follow you, I don't want anything happening to you my friend! Oh those poor guys, seeing and listening to that white horned thing, how incredibly scary! I'm really happy that he sold his grandpa's cabin, I wonder if that white creature has ever been inside the cabin, ewww, how scary to even think about that! 😲😨 I'am so happy that they left when they did, that was very smart of them! Great reporting my friend, you are truly the BEST reporter Chris, you take care now, and keep hiking! 🌲👣🌲👣👣🌲👣👣🌲👣👣🌲🌲🌲🌲
Good narration. This is a creepy story! I took a hike with my corgi dog when I was in the Big Horn Mts in WY this summer way up to an unoccupied ranger station. It was heavily forested and extremely steep. I did not think of it until I got back down but it was spooky up there. Lots of mountain lions in the Big Horns. I have never seen one but a ranger told me once, 'Oh, they have seen you!'. I don't know how you dare camp out. I like a nice upscale lodge.
That was probably the best story I’ve ever heard, I’m a truck driver and I listen to your stories all the time that sound was terrifying! If I heard that in the woods , I’d probably die from fear!
Wow that's a super creepy ,spine chilling whistle Chris, but there's an old saying "a whistling hen will bring the devil from his den " so stay safe 😮😮😊
I've never heard about wendigos before. I moved to New Jersey a year ago and am getting to know the Pine Barrens. I love the NJ Devil stories that I hear. Thanks for another great story!
Hi Reba I'm from the same area. Have you walked around Batsto yet? I think they are having their big festival right now. You should go check it out & take a tour of their big old house (if they have it open). It's pretty interesting.
Wow! What an experience!! I was thinking, if it were a Sasquatch of 300-500 lbs. I would think it could've caved in the roof while up there! But then he gives a description of a tall, slender being he saw out the window and by this description it doesn't sound like a usually heavy Sasquatch at all? I can appreciate how this incident was life changing. Great story telling Chris! Now we have this new cryptid I guess you'd call it, to think about and there you are blowing that creepy Aztec whistle around LOL "if you whistle, it will come" 🤔
At the end of the video, when you used the Aztec Death Whistle, some poor hiker a mile away heard the scariest thing and now will tell a story of his own. "It was the craziest thing; I was hiking near Ebbetts pass by my self and I suddenly heard this terrible, scary scream sound..... I have no idea but I don't think I'm alone"... LOL Keep on telling great stories, Chris!! We love 'em
That is definitely one of your scarier stories. Glad you told it in daylight. I would hate to think of what blowing that whistle might attract after sunset! 🤐
I heard of many wendigo stories on Dogman Encounters with Jeff Nadolny. The story you told sounds terrifying and that Aztec whistle sound is so horrifying. I wonder why the wendigo was attractive to the cabin. Did the metal on the door reflect what the wendigo looked like? Maybe it was frightened by its own image. Something spooked it.
I thought I was losing it when you started repeating yourself between 5:20 and 7:13, but quickly realized it was just a editing blunder lol.. Its all good, I dont know a single youtuber who hasn't done it at least once, im just glad im not going crazy lmao.. Still a good story and fantastic video Mr Chris, as always!!
Great video and story, Chris! I bought an Aztec death whistle from Amazon a couple years ago. Made the mistake of blowing into it one night and totally spooked my whole goat herd. I put it in the closet where it has lived ever since.
I used to drive by and sometimes through Buena Vista every time I drove from my home in Northern Virginia to my kids’ colleges in Radford & Blacksburg. I can attest to the fact that it is a VERY small town! Classic southwest Virginia small town.
This is by far the most terrifying story you have told!! It reminded me of another story I heard I think it may have been on your channel about the man at a cabin it snowed and he also heard something circling the cabin and jump onto the roof. I thought for a minute you were going to say it was the rake, definitely creeped me right out tho!! 😮
I think your referring to a Mr Ballen story, a 17 year old stayed with his dog at a family owned house in the Maine woods for the last time as his dad passed and it was being sold and that thing showed up, one of Mr Ballens scariest storys and very similar to this one!
Thank you Basecamp! You made my Day.😊 P.S. The Wendigo is mostly a spiritual creature, but stands in this world and another universe. Their Evil to man and not only pray upon flesh but souls.😢
I live in NH and have hiked and camped all over the state( almost 60 now) I've never seen anything scary like that.. never even heard of an encounter like that before. I only had one odd encounter back around 83-84. We drove into the mountains and turned onto a fire road, a rough dirt road leading deep into the woods. We would drive as far in as we could then hike some and set up camp. Mid day on Sunday we were breaking camp and heading for the car. Just as we were at the car ..there was another fire road cut perpendicular and we saw 2 native Americans sitting on horses far away. They saw us and started riding fast towards us.were about 2 football fields away.... we jumped in the car and started going fast as we could but the road was so bumpy we could only go so fast.they were gaining fast when we saw an arrow go past the car. We were yelling go faster but the road was tossing us around.. just as were were getting to the paved road and out tires chirped and we started to take off one of the Indians threw a paper bag through the passenger side window and we pulled away from him and the other. We never went back to that spot. I wondered if we went on some burial ground or sacred land.. they were mad for some reason.
That death whistle is so terrifying, it really sounds like someone is being killed! Wow. I imagine the Aztec warriors scared their enemies half to death and would win any battle they fought. Not a sound anyone wants to hear. I think it would be perfect for Halloween. So glad they replaced the front door on that cabin. Shame they had to leave all their good food and supplies behind. Great story! If they went missing, no one would have known why.
Wendigo? Never heard of this one, but sounds, as if, his grandpaw, was right. How creepy! I was thinking of the indian one, and now, forget its name. With it being 7 feet tall, white without hair, and horns, plus the death scream, I'd high tailed it out of there, too. Great job, as usual, Chris! ❤
I'm back home in Fiji after spending 4 years attending the University of Washington in Seattle.I hunted and hiked extensively in those 4 years all throughout WA and Oregon and Montana.Had some spooky things happen which I have no explanation for. Will send you my experiences Chris.
Morning Chris, holy crap that's a crazy encounter. Thank you for the Beer and the story! Be safe out there. I also want to thank Todd for his service and all veterans and active duty men and women 💪
I had a similar experience in 1999. I saw something. I don't know what it was but it was big. At least 8 feet tall. It threw a grapefruit sized rock at me. I shot into the tree by its head. It ran away from me and I ran from it. It was covered with hair and very muscular. Since that day I always carry a gun with me into the woods. Great story Chris.
I guess it was a Bigfoot. I was camping when this happened. I didn't sleep at all that night. I sat up by the fire pretty much the whole night. The next morning I packed up my stuff and left the area.
Oohh a windigo that is down right terrifying, more terrifying than skin walkers in my opinion. And both of them are things I would much rather avoid. Great story telling as always Chris.
Thank you Chris for another great and frightening story. I bet the creature was responsible for destroying the cabin in first place and then was angry to see it was built up and being used again. Obviously, it didn't want them there. Very scary experience. 😱
I already know I'm going to like the video so this is one of the rare channels I come to watch the new video and give the thumbs up 👍 immediately. Cheers Chris and thanks for what you do. Edit - As far as I know, from what I have learned about cryptids, the wendigo is the worst one to have an encounter with. More so than the Dogman, Rake, Skinwalker or Sabe (Bigfoot). Those guys are very lucky to get out of there unscathed
Maybe this wendigo thing can change into whatever it wants to at any given time. Ive also heard of things popping out of trees or blending into them like some kind of portal or something. Maybe some of the trees are cursed or something.
BEST channel on YT as far as cozying up and having a beer and being engrossed in GREAT BF encounters. LOVE it Chris, and you need to start selling tee shirts! Oh wait, you do as I'm just noticing now. I'll pick a couple up!!!!!!
Wendigos are no joke. Most people that have encountered them are no longer alive so not much is known about them. The one they described was a small one. Those guys are really lucky. I’m glad they got out. Sounds like the sunrise chased it off. Thank you for sharing ✌️
Yes. Wendigos are my worst cryptid fear. Rakes come in a close second. This story is so authentic that I can’t believe people would doubt its truth. Excellently told story.

What a creepy story. Absolutely horrifying. You are such a great story teller Chris. Thank you for sharing these stories with us. I would never purchase an Aztec whistle. In so would open up doorways to evil.
This Wendigo is more frightful to me than Bigfoot. I'd surely like to find out what happened to the people who bought the cabin from Jack . I bet the cabin has had quite a few sales since Jack sold it. I wonder if there are any records required in that wilderness. A close friend of mine owned a key to two separate properties each property has several thousand acres and both places had only one required rule, The Key and that you find any area not already having a camp set up you could find a place to set up you're own your camp. His good buddy's all set up cabins and built a main camp for cooking where you could all get together it had a few bunks as well. My friend built his cabin for under twenty dollars ! It was about eight feet by ten feet. One window and a door I absolutely loved the times I was there. Thanks Chris for sharing this super scary story ! Looking forward to the next video. 👱♀️
Oh geez, now there’s another monster to look out for when camping?! That is quite the horrifying experience!! Chris you hit another home run with this one!! A+++. Thank you!! ❤❤❤

I don’t live in the Whites but spend a good bit of time out there every year and thought the same! My first reaction was “NO!! Not the White Mountains! Don’t ruin them for me!!” 🤣
No wonder you shared this terrifying story with us in the middle of the day, Chris! 😮 What a shocking experience for Jack and his mates! No wonder it changed his life! Great sound effects, Chris. The sound of the Aztec death whistle, and the image in my mind of this terrifying creature will stay with me, and I am half a world away! 😂🤣 Thanks for a really, really scaring story! Kiwi Linda 🙋♀️🌿
Great story. I haven't had much time to watch much lately but absolutely love these spoky tales I don't know how you can go camping on your own and sleep well at night.
That death whistle is very close to what the sasquatch scream sounds like except the lung capacity is greater than anything you can ever imagine. The whistle as you blew it sounds more like a jaguar scream. What Jack saw was not a sasquatch. It was some other type of demon. Best to recite the Lord’s prayer in those kinds of encounters. Shooting it wouldn’t have worked. Edit: I spent a week at Windigo Pass near Lemolo Lake in Oregon this summer. One night when I got up to empty my bladder something growled at me. I grabbed my camera and started recording. I didn’t catch any animals on the video. Just a weird three-headed stump, lol.
Oh brother. The expert folklorist over here. I guess in biblical folklore that would be true. But when a real life creature is standing in front of you, mumbling a bunch of words with your eyes closed is as affective as an ostrich burying it’s head in the sand when it gets scared because it believes if it can’t see it, it can’t hurt it. I would take my chances with a 45-70 or a .500. Pretty sure even a grizzly ain’t getting back up after 1-2 in em. Just because you’ve never seen something and it is big and scary to you, doesn’t mean it’s a demon 😂.
@@didibolter9362I doubt it was the stump but that’s the only thing I got on my camera. Probably best that way otherwise I might be scared to camp there again.

Chris, I bet after you blew that aztec death whistle; every hiker or camper, within a radius of you, skeedaddled!!! Thanks for the story!
I'm a grown man and once you blew that Aztec death whistle, hairs on my neck stood up. I'm totally freaked out!
My FAVORITE storyteller!! Can’t wait to hear this one! Good morning to All and Happy Sunday!
You ever listen to Mr.Ballen?
If not highly recommend
Sounds like the creature was very angry about being locked out of it’s resting place.
@@skylermummert24 yes…like him as well, you?
Chris, that skull whistle made everything so real... Goosebumps!!!!
It sounded like a wheezing asthmatic. I expected a really high pitched piercing whistle.
That was terrifying. When you were describing it I thought Rake, until you said it had horns. I wouldn't go back either. I always look forward to hearing your stories. Stay safe with that Death Whistle, don't need a cryptid after you.
Will do!
Me too until he says horns! So scary
loving the idea that someone was close enough to hear that whistle and promptly broke camp and ran back to the car park - they'll be getting in touch with Chris to let him know of their encounter with a skinwalker screamer in no time 🤣🤣
😂
Thank you for the information… very helpful. ⛺️🌲🍁
Thanks for this recommendation to the Hammerson Peters channel, really good content 👍
I think that windigos can come in almost any form, like a shape shifter. I also think, that in First Nation culture, you're not suppose to talk about them.
😮😮😮
No because from what I understand, they gain more power when people conversed about them.
That could've also been a rake. They are the most terrifying cryptids that exist in my opinion. They don't hesitate to attack people and make absolutely horrible noises.
Thats what I was kinda thinking too. And they are definitely dangerous!
I am a hunter from Sweden. Have heard really weird sounds at night (we typically hunt wild bore at night time here). But not this horrible 😱😄
Vic Cundiff's Dogman Encounters channel has a sighting/encounter story or two from Sweden. And another channel featured a dogman preying on a pig farm in Sweden a whle back -- if I can find the link, I'll post it for you. Warm regards from Austria.
Its probably people doing the nasty

@@BJones-yw4ddI love his channel been listening for years
@@elchappo1320 That’s the only reasonable explanation! 😁
That whistle soumded even scarier from a distance. If there were anyone else around, I sure it would have freaked them out!
This one creeped me out! Maybe as much as the sound of that Death Whistle! Great story. Thanks Chris!
What are those things George? Have you ever seen one? I've never even heard of them till now.
@didibolter9362 I have never seen one, but there are many accounts of encounters on You Tube.
@@George-yh3zy Thank you George for answering my question.
I wouldn't imitate their sounds. I might inadvertently be saying:
"I'm ready to mate!!"
Can I ask a question? Is whistling a Native American legend? I am quite interested in what you have to say. Thanks Brian
The Aztec death whistle definitely made this one send a chill over me.
THAT was terrifying 😳 I’m so glad you’re giving people a safe place to tell their experiences! Loved all you did to bring it to life. Great job 👏💜
Thank you!!⛺️🌲🍁🍺🎃
The way you related that story, I felt like I was there! What a terrifying experience for these guys! I look forward to the new stories every Sunday!
What a spooky story. Thank you Chris. The thought of running into a Windago is horrifying. The 12 gauge I carry while camping may or may not be of adequate size, but….
OO buckshot will suffice! Esp 3"1/4 shell.
Lol. Plus it is creepy, However that was fun part of the story bringing it out
I know paranormal investigators will use the Aztec death whistle to stir up spirits. its a freaky sound. Great story Chris! Thats creepy AF
I'am so happy that they left when they did, that was very smart of them!

Well that was terrifying!! Love your storytelling!!
Thank you so much!
That was probably the best story I’ve ever heard, I’m a truck driver and I listen to your stories all the time that sound was terrifying! If I heard that in the woods , I’d probably die from fear!
It really is a scary sound! Thanks for watching my channel Peter! C🐻🍺🌲👀
The location you're telling this story from is prime with odd events. Makes a Man wonder about things. Love your show Chris. God bless.
Thank you! 👍
Wow that's a super creepy ,spine chilling whistle Chris, but there's an old saying "a whistling hen will bring the devil from his den " so stay safe 😮😮😊
Imagine of Chris blew that whistle and got a response back...😂 I bet he'd never do another story in the dark section of the woods.
I wouldn't have blown that whistle, especially in the damn forest!!! 😱
I sure wouldn't have! 🙈🙉
Neither would I Cryptoman!
That's exactly what I was thinking. I would not want to call anything in
Me either. No way!
This is the best story I’ve heard from you or anybody else. No one could make this up.
I, am from the Pine barren part of Jersey. Check out the legend of the Jersey Devil. I think you will find it very interesting 😮
Now we have this new cryptid I guess you'd call it, to think about and there you are blowing that creepy Aztec whistle around LOL "if you whistle, it will come" 🤔
Yes, I was thinking the same exact thing! No more blowing that whistle Chris!!! 😅 👣 😄 🌲 😃 ⛺ 😂
LOL
Keep on telling great stories, Chris!!
Attracted to the human flesh inside!
Yikes! Classic Wendigo encounter. Native North American legend. More than a few seriously scary sightings, encounters.
Yikes! Thanks for the update!🍁
They saw us and started riding fast towards us.were about 2 football fields away.... we
jumped in the car and started going fast as we could but the road was so bumpy we could only go so fast.they were gaining fast when we saw an arrow go past the car.
😳😳😳
Thank for sharing that! Very scary! C
Oh!! It is Sunday!!! Time for a Base Camp Chris video!!!😊❤❤❤❤❤
This story goes to show that there are things in the woods even scarier than Bigfoot. I reckon it was a demon trying to get them. Wow! Great story!!
The death whistle was such a horrifying sound, thank you for your bravery blowing it in the woods alone.Maybe dont make a habit of it lol
Great story, Chris! Hammerson Peters has an excellent TH-cam channel with a bunch of wendigo stories from Canada. Definitely worth checking out.
I know about em. But I'll never talk about em. Great video Chris 👍
That dark beer can knock your socks off. Lol. Love your stories Chris.
Thank you! 🌲
When you tossed that pinecone over your shoulder, I expected it and a few more to be tossed back at you. lol.

You know what it was
I guess it was a Bigfoot. I was camping when this happened. I didn't sleep at all that night. I sat up by the fire pretty much the whole night. The next morning I packed up my stuff and left the area.
@michaelyunkelo1757 yeah dude..your encounter would have been absolutely terrifying..life changing for sure..but at least now you know the truth
Good observation…👍🐻
I always look forward to Sundays because I know you will be telling us a campfire story. Thank you Chris.
Great story and narration as usual. Thanks Chris. Enjoy your channel! 😊
This is wonderful storytelling and one of my favorite channels! I love that you go out and camp and when it comes down to storytelling, I can actually picture myself there. This story is the stuff of nightmares.

What a creepy story. Absolutely horrifying. You are such a great story teller Chris. Thank you for sharing these stories with us. I would never purchase an Aztec whistle. In so would open up doorways to evil.
I agree BP!
A+++. Thank you!! ❤❤❤

I would have been so, so beyond terrified! 😢😢😢
And that Aztec death call gave me chills down my spine.
I live in the White Mountains and there aren't a lot of creature stories out here. This was horrifying. Dang. Love it
I don’t live in the Whites but spend a good bit of time out there every year and thought the same! My first reaction was “NO!! Not the White Mountains! Don’t ruin them for me!!” 🤣
Dude, that last whistle on the way out, hilarious.
No wonder you shared this terrifying story with us in the middle of the day, Chris! 😮
What a shocking experience for Jack and his mates!
I agree. It was a demon ,only allowed "to go so far" by Jesus. We know they prowl the world seeking the ruin of Souls
A 3 headed stump growled at you?
@@coachtrevor7587Well coach Trevor. Look at the self-styled expert on your end. Who said I’ve never seen one? For your edification, I’ve seen one a couple of times and had other experiences where I only heard them. My first face to face was at age five. My face was only a few inches from it’s face.
