  • This Hardshell Carry on luggage from Carl Friedrik reminds me of a bag a secret agent could use. Further it seems like a good alternative to a Rimowa case. This is an unboxing and firstlook of "The Carry-On" by Carl Friedrik. #Unboxing #Firstlook #Carryonbag

    FULL DISCLOSURE:
    This video is not sponsored nor did I receive any money. While I sometimes get bags for free, I have to pay custom fees, shipping fees and all my videos have lots of production costs (e.g. software and musicrights). Therefore I invest my own money into all of these videos and I have no intention to be biased towards a product or company. Every review and quicklook is written by me and no company can pay for preferential scheduling or what is said in the video. Furthermore, the company sees the video the same time as all viewers here on youtube. All opinions in this video are my own unless stated otherwise.
    HOW I REVIEW:
    As you might know from my „How I make a buying decision“ video: Rather than just looking at the pros, I like to evaluate the cons or flaws of an item and then evaluate if I can live with them. That is why in my video reviews I concentrate more on the cons of an item rather than going over all the features. Therefore everything shown is just a fraction of all the points that go into the verdict and score of an item.
    DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A QUICKLOOK AND A REVIEW:
    A Quicklook usually covers pre-production units or items that I only used for a short period of time. While Reviews cover final items that I have reviewed intensively.
    LINKS:
    For all my videos I decided not to include links for the products. Everyone is living in different countries and therefore has to deal with different shipping and customs fees. That is why I would advice everyone just to Google the product within their country to find the best deals. For instance: I live in Germany, It wouldn’t make sense to give you a German link while you might be living in USA or Asia. I hope that is understandable.

    That rough texture surface is actually much better than smooth polycarbonate, It doesn't scuff or scratch nearly as much, and doesn't really accumulate dirt like you think it might...
    In terms of looking good for the longest amount of time, it's basically the best way to go

    I use those bigger bags like that as a laundry bag. Keep it in my roller, and the bag doubles as a nice shoe protector

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With a bag like this (i.e. that isn't used that much) it is probably a good idea to store it in this dust bag.

  • @arthurnixcontractor2818
    @arthurnixcontractor2818 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    A big plus I see is that the two pieces are not attached by zipper and cloth to hold it together. So this is an uncommon bag and I expect this would be more durable than the zipper type.

    The other thing about built in or included batteries is they're almost always subpar to one you'd choose yourself. It's also nuts that a bag that's going to be as expensive as this one doesn't ship with a usb c cable. Sheesh.

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point about the battery banks. I realized that the micro usb cable is for charging the included powerbank.

      I bought this and promptly returned it. It looks great, and overall the shell is decent. Love the latches. However, the dealbreaker for me was the fact the handle is probably the WORST i’ve ever seen on a roller bag. Seriously, it’s the same handle that the cheapest of the cheap rollers use. Way too much play, and it jiggles and wobbles terribly. Going back to all the reviews I watched, I noticed that not a single one mentioned the handle - arguably one of the most important pieces of a good roller, as it’s your constant touchpoint. Carl Friedrik support and return process is flawless. Interesting when I mentioned the wobbly handle as a reason, they didn’t bat an eyelash (no “oh, it could be defective” etc)… ie: They know where they cut corners. The moral of this story: Listen to what reviewers say, but pay attention to what they DON’T say. Rather than be negative, many just stay quiet on key things.

      @@BananaChipzzz Thanks for this input, this was my #1 issue. The TH-cam channel, "Away Together w/ Nik and Allie" has a carry-on comparison and had the Monos as the best for handle rigidity and other features. I am/was deciding between Carl Freidrik, Monos, Travelpro, Briggs and Riley, even Samsonite, but your input has shorten my options now. I really like the look of it but function and quality needs to be priority. What other carry-on luggage do you have and recommend?

      No other way than going through all 1000 combos. 0-9 is 10 digits, and 3 numbers means 10*10*10 = 1000.

    Why don’t suitcase manufacturers find a way to incorporate a handle but yet still leave a flat bottom.

    • @adambyrtek
      @adambyrtek 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Probably because of physics? The handle has to go somewhere, so it's either that or wasting valuable space around the handles.

      Which is why this is called a first look / impression. My first looks are intentionally "uninformed" to simulate if I would walk into a store and see an item for the first time. This basically also ensures to check if a product is easy to understand. Any item that you can grab and directly use IMHO is very well designed.

      Thanks for watching and your comment. This is not a review, this is a first look. And I intentionally do not inform myself about the product before doing a first impressions. I want to give you as a viewer an honest first impression as if you go into a store and check out a product that you "just buy". Plus I don't see a point of giving you a recap of what's on the website. But that's just how I approach my first impressions videos. Thanks again for your feedback and happy new year
