I watched Catherine’s video Sunday and commented that I was betting she would meet up with you for a hike on her trip across the South. Great video! One of the nice things about hiking in the woods in the Winter is how much more you can see without the foliage. Gives a whole new perspective to the landscape. Thanks for filming Bryan!
Looks like a wonderful trip. I watched Catherine’s video of the trip on Sunday. It’s great to see you, Catherine and coach together. Great video and thank you for posting.
Another great video! You should check out Wiggy's Waders for those winter stream crossings. They weigh about 10 ounces for a pair. They go OVER your shoes, so you can slip them on and off pretty quickly at each crossing. If the streams are narrow enough, you can toss them to the next hiker on the other side. I just used mine again with a hiking buddy on the six little crossings on Grapeyard Ridge in the Smokies this weekend with snow on the trails. Sure beats cold wet feet and they extend your winter hiking options!
@@BryanDeLay I found them after trying to figure out a less painful way to get across Citico Creek in the winter after trying the barefoot, neoprene socks, gore-tex socks and hike until dry options. They come up to the top of your legs (but I wouldn't want to 'top' them). They even worked to make that 300 ft lower Linville River crossing at the bottom of Linville Gorge.
Absolutely beautiful hike and so glad you all got to do it together. The color of the water was absolutely amazing and all the cascades. The ridges looked awesome and the campsites were beautiful as well. buddy was a trooper!
Thanks Nicole! It was a great trip! Buddy was a trooper, except I was the only one with a large closed cell pad for sitting around the fire and every time I got up Buddy would snag it.:)
Another super job with video Bryan! It was such a pleasure sharing the trail with you and so look forward to the next opportunity to hike together... :)
@@michaelpetersonbackpacking6077 Thank you Michael! Likewise, wishing you the best... I definitely need to catch up with you and all your adventures... You certainly are keeping busy.
@@defcoord it’s actually interesting that you just hiked here ..... I’m in Tulsa Oklahoma right now for work . Was thinking about doing some day hiking on that trail on my way home !
Nice video of the backpack and the Arkansas backcountry which is much more impressive than what you see along I-40. Looks like a well maintained national forest and trail system. Can only imagine the hours that went into editing the video.
Good video Bryan and you had some great hiking buddies. I watched Cat's video on Sunday. Always cool to see the same hike from a different perspective. My parents both grew up on small, subsistence level farms in Arkansas, and we spent a lot of time exploring the state when I was a little kid. Good memories. 😎
Thanks Tim! Sorry I didn't get to say hello. The date shifted around a few days at the last moment. Also Catherine and Coach drove in from Texas the day we started the trip and then Coach headed back to Texas the day we finished. Catherine and I car camped after the trip and then I headed back to Tennessee he next morning. Maybe you, Chris and I can put together a trip in AR sometime.
@@BryanDeLay I’m ready! Would like that! Ouachita, OHT, BRT, plenty to select from. I’m working from home these days in West Little Rock. Technically, I’m based in OKC and commute every other week or so. Anyway, don’t know when I’ll be summoned back but that doesn’t change anything. I’m in on a trip to hike some JMT and climb Whitney late July into August. Hope to do something in Colorado earlier in July. Feel free to reach out and let’s plan something late winter or spring!
Thanks BlackOak Property Maintenance! Even though I'd heard some nice things about the Eagle Rock Loop and watched some videos, it was better than expected.
“One of the classic loops in the South” gave me chills! 😂 High praise coming from you, my friend. Hope my home state treated ya well. Still bummed I couldn’t join you the weekend following this trip, but rain-check!
Y’know Bryan, I’m not 100% sure. Good question. I’ve always assumed it was named after Eagle Rock Vista, which would’ve been off a short spur trail on top of the first ridge you climbed. I’ve actually never climbed all the way to the top of that ridge coming out of Albert Pike, but will for sure next time. Spectacular views of the Little MO from up there!
Looks like a great trip and not a bit of snow in sight! Looks like the gang is all there, you're just missing Joey! I thought that I might get the jump on you this year and have more nights out... even if just for a minute, but nope. You're already in the lead and I'll be chasing you all year. :)
Thanks for the invite Parker 8541! Actually I almost never do any day hikes anymore. My outdoor adventures are backpacking trips and about 75% are solo.
I liked these sceneries... lots of beautiful shades of brown! So many river crossings - as an amateur myself, may I ask if if you walk in wet shoes all the time?
Bryan, I'm planning to backpack this trail in the fall, and I have a question. I plan to start at the Little Missouri/Athens-Big Fork Junction Trailhead. I believe this is where y'all started? If so, was there overnight parking at that trailhead?
Hey Bryan. Every time you post a video I have to put it on my bucket list. Stop it!! Lol what an interesting & awesome trail. 👍👍✌️
Awesome Tom! I'll try to keep adding to your bucket list.
Great video. I got here via watching Catherine's video. Thanks for sharing your trip & Buddy looks like a great companion !
Thanks Blue Heron! It was a great backpacking trip and Buddy was a lot of fun.
Love your camera work. Looks like a great place to go backpacking. Thanks for the preview
Thank you Karen! Glad you enjoyed the video.
What a peaceful loop, enjoyed the scenery and the beautiful water sounds. Thanks for taking us along. Very enjoyable!👍
Thank you Becca! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Great video again Bryan! My To Do List grows again by one.
Thanks Bruce! Glad to add places for you to check out.
The river looks very gorgeous. But I bet those crossings were cold. Very nice!
Thanks Leon! The Little Missouri River wasn't that cold, but some of the creeks were.
Love it! It’s always very cool to see your perspective of the same trip. I enjoyed the video of this awesome trip!
Thank you Catherine! It was an awesome trip.

Thanks Chris! We may just have another trip together in the near future. I agree winter backpacking adds a totally different perspective.
The stream is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing offline
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Beautiful forest and hike! Lots of water and water crossings on this one- looked a bit cold!
The loop was much nicer than I expected. The Little Missouri River was not very cold, but some of the smaller creek were cold.
Beautiful area. The water looked like you had a filter on it. 😊 Your editing skills continue to get better and better. Very nice to watch. 👍
Thank you Stricky! No filter, that's the real color. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Looks like a wonderful trip.

Arkansas was very kind to us. ERL is a great loop. Question: the rock overlook with the American flag, is that Eagle Rock?
Y’know Bryan, I’m not 100% sure. Good question. I’ve always assumed it was named after Eagle Rock Vista, which would’ve been off a short spur trail on top of the first ridge you climbed. No snow to be found. Yea, we almost had the entire gang on this trip. You have two obstacles that prevent you from catching me: work and snow.:)

Does Coach live in Plano, TX? I live in Allen, TX and grew up in Plano. If so, small world. Great video.
Thanks Harlan! That would be the same person.
I liked these sceneries... lots of beautiful shades of brown! So many river crossings - as an amateur myself, may I ask if if you walk in wet shoes all the time?
Not all the time, but a lot. The key is to wear a pair good of wool socks such as Darn Tough.
Great video Bryan!! Always enjoy them. Is that a Zpacks Arc Blast your packing? Great stuff as always!! Stay safe!!
Thanks Fish N it! It's a Zpacks Arc Haul.
I see the Marines have taken that hill in Arkansas. Lol
Wonderful scenery as always Brian.

does it cost any money to hike and camp this trail?
No fee or permit required Christopher.
