13 years working on a golf course and it's the best job in the world and also the worst at times. It really depends on your boss. For me I would rather have a dollar an hour less and have a great boss and a good easy going crew. I have had both supers that were cool and kinda a friend and then ones I did not like that made the day a job and not and enjoyable day at work. The best super I ever worked for was easy going non bossy type and I worked my butt off for him. In return he let me do some things that other guys did not get to. My last super did not see eye to eye with me and I did as little as possible to get the day done. Ever think of just going up the east coast? Lot's of courses all the way up the coast, some good ones too.

As a golf course superintendent here in South Carolina, it's always a blessing to have someone so passionate about their job on the grounds crew who's willing to document their experience and show of their course. Its hard enough findjng employees who want to work let alone be passionate about their job. It's a shame they wouldn't allow you to film. Keep up the good work buddy, I'm sure you would make an excellent superintendent/asst. Superintendent one day!

Hey John I've watched you for months mate and love your videos would love to become a friend. Would you like to see what a life of a greenkeeper in the UK is like especially my region the northeast a poor region?
We are really struggling here in the UK and are nowhere near as proffesional as you boys in America . It's not for the want of trying..there's such a decline in our industry and also its not seen as a proffesion here in the UK. We have fantastic academic credentials I own turf grass tickets myself and been green keeping for 10 years, but we simply don't have the staff or budget to do things correctly so we make do. Getting rushed and forced to do jobs by people that own the golf clubs who have no idea about horticulture they have worked in the food industry or the metal working industry or stack shelves it's honestly insane.
For instance our guys all have to know about agronomy, Chemicals, Have tickets for spraying and using chainsaws have qualifications in horticulture and turf grass and be able to operate all plant machinery. Machines that people make a good living driving but we don't because if needs must.
We have to be able to do every job on a golf course from the lowest of the lows to the heights, from doing bins and cleaning up dog "shi*" to hand watering greens and taking moisture readings aerification.. Constructing tees and greens and drainage and building bridges but we are very under paid and most golfers sadly in the UK really look down upon us as mere grass cutters even though we are proffesionals.
If you like I could contact you and maybe I could introduce people to your channel and you do the same and we could connect? How's thst sound my friend for instance I've worked every bank holiday and worked 21 days straight averaging 50 hours a week latley we have a small squad of 4 staff looking after a smallish site of 100 acres of cutting space. Keep up the channel it's amazing.

We could use a solid worker dude here in PA. We lost a guy due to maybe seizure related happenings and our assistant superintendent in training just got in a horrific bike accident. solid superintendent boss that probably wouldnt mind you recording videos. i record stuff here and there for my IG. i just started working here a couple months ago and your videos were a big help in what to expect at working at a golf course. my first job was working at one but it was a 9 hole community course. this ones a private country club. I need 2 to 3 years experience working at a private country club to apply at Merion which is close to me. anyways best of luck mate!

I stumbled across your videos a few years ago and instantly enjoyed your content and sought out more, coming back every now and then when i want to catch an update, it's unfortunate to see that you hit stumbling block. I fully understand you had to stop due to what was probably some middle manager who didn't want to ruffle feathers from the higher ups and they probably never even saw a second of your content, but I just felt that you should know that your content is worth continuing with and i hope you either find a new niche going forward, or you find a new job where they allow you to produce content. I wish you all the best and keep your head up bro.
Your vids are always very cathartic and you seem a natural at producing TH-cam content. I enjoy the backdrop of the music you choose along with the amazing early morning footage and you have a real knack for producing content as you come across as a positive and affable guy.

This channel is an asset, not a liability. You just need to find the right fit where the upper-management sees the value in your YT channel. You might have better luck on a public course. These private clubs have waiting list so your channel being an advertisement is useless to them. A struggling course would be lucky to have you promoting their business for them for free.

Hey John, I think what your doing here is amazing and you really seem to care about the community that you've grown. My friend was actually talking to me about getting a job at a golf course and I'd like to see how that whole application process works. I have delivery driving experience and I've worked at a plant nursery and I'm wondering how skills like that might translate to what is required in the job that your doing. When I was researching the position your videos were the first thing to come up and I subbed on the second one I watched. I appreciate the effort you've put in to share what you know and inspire people. I actually live in st.Johns Florida and I'm now considering applying to a golf course in my area. If you have any advice I'd love to hear from you. I'll definitely keep up with the channel especially if I dive deeper into this decision. I know its not my business to ask but since you cant currently film I'd like to see a dedicated video about the discrepancies in pay, benefits, free lunches, time off, and amount of coworkers between different clubs you've worked for or maybe something along those lines. I wish you the best man.

Great to hear from you! I just recently found your channel the night before I went and interviewed for a golf course maintenance position… I used to work on the golf course here on the Mississippi Coast after I graduated high school and it has by far been the best job I ever had, loved it… I mowed tees, collars, and approaches during the week and greens every other weekend… moved away to Texas for school, met my wife and stayed there building a family and just recently moved back and tried to go back to the course after all of that… didn’t work out because they were falsely advertising golf course when it wasn’t so I’ll just keep cutting hair as I’m a barber now, so I’m still cutting, just not golf courses 🤣 anyways, love your stuff, brings me back every time I watch your content and hope you find the place you’re meant to be! Good luck brother!

Hey John. I rarely comment on any videos on TH-cam but going back to Feb of 2021. My life was in need of a new direction. I had just moved and there was no plan as to what or how I was going to survive. Thats probably a little dramatic. I randomly got a job at a high end course here on the east coast and started YouTubing maintenance work. Thus, found your channel. I learned some insight before working there because of you. I would also find myself coming back to check if you uploaded videos and was wondering what happened.
Ultimately what I learned from working on a course is that it's sink or swim. I'm in my second season where I am and find myself like you trying to find the best fit. I totally understand your place and where you want to be. I like the job but it's rather demanding and money depends on the position. I would like to find a course that's on the nicer side with a decent budget that doesn't try to run you into the ground but expects you to pull your weight without the full on golf politics.

    • @fairwayjohn6336
      @fairwayjohn6336  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey Todd, thanks for sharing. Yea, the course I currently work at has a very high budget (not necessarily to pay people but to provide the course with what it needs). They treat us really well as far as food, etc… A lot of high end courses are looking for hardworking people so don’t be intimidated. A lot depends on the superintendent…so if they don’t treat you right, look elsewhere. Really happy to have you on the channel. I wish you all the best and keep us posted on how you’re doing. Thanks again for watching and for the comment. 👊

It's been a year now and I love it. I love seeing the differences of working on a course in south Florida and a course in northern Alberta. It's so different yet the same. I'll always remember what my boss said "You'll never be a rich man but you'll never have a want for anything. And what other job do you do the things we do."

Glad to see a new vid. Just my opinion if you want to start filming more while working a chest mount or head mount or some type of low key body mount would be a good investment personally. Then try to find a good way to keep it out of sight when you are not filming if you need to.

John, Glad to see you back, I hope you find a course that understands the value in letting people see what really goes into maintaining a golf course and how it actually helps to grow the game of golf.

Hey John...Love your content, even more, I like your commitment to making it for us. I just finished my first summer as a retiree mowing tee box and green surrounds. I tried to live your attitude about how to do a pretty simple job and how it makes a difference. I actually really liked trying to make things better for the members, so thanks for the motivation. I hope you find something fulfilling soon. Stay cool!

I started watching your channel in February when I got hired at a golf course in south Florida. The peace of mind I get every morning on the course is unfathomable, which makes me work harder. Monday is my first day as the assistant superintendent, I appreciate you putting time into these videos to express how nice it is to be on the course.

John, we missed you also. So sad that your course wouldn’t let you provide content for your channel. this is one of the reasons why Golf still seems to be for the elite class even though some of us are just common folk like you and I.
I live over on the West Coast in the Venice area just south of Sarasota so many courses this way it’s hard to believe I retired in 2017 to be closer to my father Who golfs with me at least once a week. You seem like a very levelheaded young man keep up the great work I’ll always support you
