Fun fact I love to tell people. The Bayou Condos were once The Bayou Hotel. During the 20’s it hosted the whos who of the era. Names like Ruth, Dupont and even Capone stayed at the hotel. Mostly all to shoot the famed hordes of Canvasbacks that would winter on the flats. Havre De Grace has such a amazing history for such a tiny town. While the ducks aren’t completely gone it’s sad they will likely never return in their historic numbers.

Across the river behind the lighthouse , on the east side of river is Perry Point VA Medical Center .Located on the shore is an old mill, the oldest building in the VA. I worked there for 23 yrs after I worked 10 yrs at Harford Mem in Havre de Grace before that. The river flows into what is called the Susquehanna Flats. At low tide it is dry land. The Susquehanna ,North east and Elk rivers flow together to form the Head of Chesapeake Bay. Originally was called The Head of the Elk because when looked at a map it looks like a head of an elk with all the rivers coming together. Look due east you can see Elk Neck which divide the North East and Elk rivers. Elk Neck lighthouse is located on the very point. My mother's aunt operated it for a while. The C&D canal branches off the Elk River and goes to the Delaware River. I had lots of family , friends , and Co workers that live in Havre de Grace.
Hi Tim. I grew up on Erie St, up from the lock house. But i have never been in it. Be sure to check out the old grist mill on the fall line in Susquehanna St. Park, up rt 155, a couple of miles from the town.
