I divide them in spring and fall. It' no way you can separate the roots by hand. So, do not dig out the plants, just give a big plant a crossing cut than dig the 4 parts out ,for mid size plant cut one into two when the plant in ground. I did many time, no problem at all.@@lizakates5115

when you shear yours back you will be able to see how large the clump has become. if it looks like you could drive a shovel through it and get a couple nice chunks with roots and top growth then that means it is large enough to divide@@lizakates5115
Good morning Devin .Thanks for the information about the hellebores . Your hellebores looks so pretty . I love the beautiful flowers of them and will plant in my garden . Have anice day .
Hi Devin, I grow orchids and Hawaiian tropical plants here in Edmonds WA. I have a 10x20 green house that I keep them out in the summer time. I bring them inside my home during the winter months, with grow lights as well as humidity trays. I only use Roberta's bounty plant food. Oh my gosh, it's the best for awesome results. Thank you for your channel.
I JUST ordered some! I had some landscaping done last year but didn’t pay for the company to plant the plants they suggested since I wanted more control over it 😂 they suggested hellebores for my walkway and I really love that idea so I ordered some just last night. Hope they arrive okay! I couldn’t find 5 in the variety I wanted locally so I ordered 🤷🏼♀️
I'm in zone 9 [California], mine do great! If any of you get the chance, try growing the Onyx [black Hellebores]. Everyone will stop to admire your formation.
the front of my home faces slightly northeast and is full shade October - April and surprisingly sunny in the spring and summer...this has been a challenge. I will try Hellebores for the shadier area. Thanks Devin!
Always so helpful, thx Dev. I am near Chicago 5b now 6. My spring transplant of one hellebore has a flower now in Dec-Jan, picked up a couple more at Home Depot, should I plant now since ground wet and not frozen, or overwinter again and plant in spring like the first? Or test one in and one out? Gotta luv weird weather! Thx!
Hi! Have you seen this video? I think you are good to plant! How Late is Too Late to Plant in the Garden? Late Autumn & Winter - Shrubs, Trees, Perennials th-cam.com/video/4hhWsQ3-6W0/w-d-xo.html
Got some tiny plants from my mother in law. But after your video I realised that they will get too much sun come summer. Should I replant now or wait til spring?
Izel sells plug perennials retail, but they only ( I think) offer native plants so won't have hellebores. Best deal I've seen on hellebores is at Trader Joes in the late winter...they were much cheaper than nurseries for a gallon sized plant
What is the species / variant of the purple flowered plant at 00:50? I think the genus is spelled Helleborus. It's confusing since people refer to groups of plants within the genus using the different spelling Hellebores
Great plants, I bought 2 plants 10 years ago, by dividing them , now , I have 27 in the garden.
Awesome!! I can’t wait to start dividing mine
when do you divide them and how large are the pieces you cut into new plants. thanks! I have a mature one and nervous about dividing.?

They do not only look good when they're blooming 🌸🌸🌸Those evergreens look great in winter as well.
yes!! the evergreen component is even more important to me than the flowers!
I am on the east coast and planted Hellabores in a large pot on the shady side of my deck. They are blooming and look amazing.
Yessss

You too :)
Completely on the mark! I have a few and they are great. In my area, deer and rodents leave them alone too. Great for mostly shade in summer
Totally agree!
They have become my obsession
Mine too!
I love these flowers here in Vermont

Hi! I would love for you to share some photos of your set up on the membership chat! It sounds like you’ve got an awesome place that you’ve created

You will love them!! Just make they get enough shade!
I only have one, but I love it. It's so unique. ❤
They’re fantastic plants!
I’m in Reading PA and have 3 planted in a group! I always look forward to their blooms!
I bet they’re awesome in your area
There’s a nice cluster of hellebores, like a little garden by the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
First timer on your videos.
Thanks for your tips 🪴🪻
Glad you like them!
I love Garden

Ooh I will look into them!!
Ive never heard or seen them before but they are beautiful.
In my deer infested area they have been a real blessing
Excellent video.
Thank you very much!
Love the French blue watering can. We have one too and find the its capacity very useful.
Agreed!
Interesting and very informational video. Thank you!
Hope you enjoyed it!

Just keep out of any direct sun!
Your house has nice stonework! Oh and when I lived in Pennsylvania I lived in Lebanon County. 🙂
The stone work is so pretty I agree!

Can I plant hellebore seeds now? Great video man.
You could plant the seeds indoors in late winter and transplant outside next spring. Thanks for watching 🙌
Thank you. Are they ok for Toronto Canada?
Yes they are
Hi Devin!! Great video!!! Do you have or plan to make a video on deer resistant plants? Thank you!
Check this one out DEER RESISTANT PLANTS - Factors of Plants Less Favored by Deer

@plantvibrations Thank you!!! I love them, but they are driving me insane😂😂😂😂
Where did you get the tray of hellebores you showed earlier in the video? It’s hard to find them in that size.
It’s from a wholesale nursery called creek hill
Well great presentation and definitely not Helleboring!
Hahahaha
How did your hellebores get so big?! Are they like ten years into an intense compost tea diet? Very lush!
This area gets good shading and lots of leaf litter!
@@plantvibrations thank you for the quantum leap of leaf litter!

Wait till spring. Now the suns intensity isn’t too heavy to cause damage
@@plantvibrationsthanks Devin, so kind of you to answer my question
Where did you find the full flat of the hellebores. I have looked all over and never seen them in a flat such as you have❤ 1:25
Unfortunately they’re impossible to find without a wholesale license
Izel sells plug perennials retail, but they only ( I think) offer native plants so won't have hellebores.
Best deal I've seen on hellebores is at Trader Joes in the late winter...they were much cheaper than nurseries for a gallon sized plant
@@ericjorgensen8028yes! I bought 3 from Trader Joe’s and they are better than the ones I bought from regular nurseries.
What is the species / variant of the purple flowered plant at 00:50?
I think the genus is spelled Helleborus. It's confusing since people refer to groups of plants within the genus using the different spelling Hellebores
Yes I agree, it is confusing. You are correct, the genus is Helleborus, and the common name is Hellebore(s)
I wonder if they can live here in the tropics?
I think they need the cool weather to thrive
Mine have only flowered one flower per plant. Yet the leaves are so big. Not worth it imo. I've just cut them back. Don't know what to do with them
You must have it in an incorrect location
How long does it take for heLlebores get that big??
About 2 years
They are expensive but I love them. How to propagate?
They can be propogated by dividing the clumps.
Some varieties seed well and it's easy to move and grow the seedlings.
I’ll show a video how to divide the clumps in the future!
Where can I buy those plugs
It’s a shame they’re really not available for home gardeners, I have a wholesale license that allows me to buy them
Deer sound like Kangaroos, eat your garden, then shit on it.
Yep!
