Ben, you might not notice it, but mental health is quite a serious issue in Malaysia nowadays. Not many people having and facing this problem are properly assisted with professional consultations and guidance. Not many people can afford personal therapy or empowerment. And worst case, some of these people don't realize or aware of their problems relating to mental health issues.

I have a brother-in-law who finds it really hard to open up about his problems. He always tries to solve things on his own, but the way he handles issues often makes us frustrated because it’s just not the right approach and doesn’t actually solve anything.
I’ve reminded him so many times to just share what’s on his mind so we can figure things out together. I keep telling him not to try and fix everything alone. I believe he feels like a failure if he doesn’t at least try to handle things himself. He probably thinks that, as a man, he should be smart enough to solve problems without telling his wife or family. But in reality, his silence only makes things worse. Keeping everything bottled up is just making him more stressed. His wife has tried to comfort him and convince him to open up, but he still refuses.
We’ve explained over and over again that sharing his problems won’t make him any less of a man or a husband. If he doesn’t feel comfortable talking to his wife, he could at least open up to his own older brother. His brother is an extrovert, and I’m pretty sure if we encourage him to guide my brother-in-law into expressing himself, it would help. But still, he won’t do it. Whenever he faces problems, especially family-related ones, he just keeps quiet and then comes up with a solution that doesn’t really work. This has led to conflicts between him and my sister.
For example, when he lost his job due to issues with his boss, my sister had no idea. For almost two weeks, he was acting moody and getting upset with her over the smallest things. Then, suddenly, he announced that he had found a new job. But I knew that the new place was unstable, which led to a huge fight between them. The thing is, if he had shared his work problems with my sister or his own older family earlier, maybe he wouldn’t have had to quit in the first place. And when he started the new job, within two weeks, he quit again because the company wasn’t financially stable. As a result, they struggled to pay rent and manage their household expenses, and they have small kids to take care of.
I really think he needs a support group like this or some kind of discussion circle for men to talk about these things. The problem is, he doesn’t speak English well, and on top of that, it’s hard to persuade him because he’s such an introvert and keeps everything to himself.
In my own family, we’ve never believed that men shouldn’t express their emotions when they’re struggling. Both men and women need a space to talk about their feelings to avoid unnecessary stress. We even have a younger brother, and although we never encouraged him to cry over every little thing when he was a kid, we always made sure he had a safe space to vent whenever he felt upset. We’re used to sharing our problems with each other, and we don’t find it difficult to open up to others.
That’s why my sister (his wife) and I are so worried about his habit of shutting everyone out. It’s affecting their family life, and we honestly don’t know how else to help him.

    • @lunar.eclipse45
      @lunar.eclipse45 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

ask his best friend to help him because sometimes, a man has his own ego and feels that sharing a problem is embarrassing to his dignity. He needs trust among men who are close to him.
His brother couldn't help his brother because they had different personalities. A man like this needs a friend like him to express his feelings and burdens.
As for a wife, slowly approach him and always be patient with his attitude. This is very important because introverts will lead to mental problems if left alone and continue like that.
we as people around him, give him space and help solve his problem secretly if we know a little bit about his problem. They don't need a whole lot of help, but a little help might help lighten their load.

Tapi, masa memang akan mengubah dan bergantung pada diri semdiri juga. Kalau kita kuat dan mudah menerima sesuatu perkara atau suaikan diri dengan komuniti setempat, memang lebih mudah..
As malaysian, when i has to work another place but still on my own state(it's far away from my hometown).. i still feel sad and lonely..so, i can imagine how u feel when u first comes here especially malaysia has different cultures from yours..but time will change it and we also need to be strong and try to adapt with surroundings community.

About learning Bahasa Melayu, it is easier than learning Mandarin or Tamil it is because unlike the others, we use Roman alphabet, the same alphabet used in English. By means you don't really have to figure out how the words sound, it only has little difference. It just that you want to learn it or not. How do you think the Malays learn English in the first place? We might have grammatical errors or shy to speak but I assure you we all know how to read in English and understand what you say. The funny thing is, back in 80s-90s, Malay kids understand English cartoons, there was no subtitles back then, but they know who's the good guys and bad guys, they know the plots and everything. But in English class, everyone is either shy or afraid to speak in English for some reason...I think it is more about confidence than anything, inferiority complex maybe. It's psychological, we were British colonial...

i have lived in England for 15 years and now a Malaysian residing in the South Americas.
My opinion is if you can conquer Bahasa Melayu or Bahasa Indonesia - you will go far exploring the archipelago starting from Kuala Lumpur up to the Stunning Krabi; up north to the Majestical Champa (Vietnam); down south to the Magical Indonesia; north-west to the Ethereal Southern Philippines and far east into the Jaw-Dropping islands of Papua. Do you know how vast that is if you can speak Bahasa Melayu? Do you how vast it is this archipelago spanning from Sumatera up to Segenting Kra and horizontally further to Papua? That's HUUUUGE.
And when you can speak Bahasa Melayu - you are free to roam this beautiful garden (the whole Malay archipelago) with the knowing that everywhere you are in this archipelago - all are your brothers and sisters - they will look out for you🌟🌟🌟

Unfortuely the politicians keep spinning the racial and religious issue. I like back when religion matters was the taboo things. Kinda self understood amongst other religion for generations.
Now, politician keep playing the racial cards to gain votes! They are the one creating this religious tension so that they standout like the religious messiah.
If they politician are too worry about races and religion they would have abolish the school system by Races in malaysia long time ago.
Truth is the malaysian politicians like us be devided. So they can always have the religion ace cards to use
