I have the Taniwha and didn't change the chain for three years. I only did it then as I was going to Whistler. Normally a cassette lasts 12 months so the zerode is much cheaper to maintain. You can crash as often as you like and the gears always work. The gear changing takes awhile to get used to but has many advantages. My favourite is stalling on a sudden steep section. Drop 6 gears in one go and then power up in full load. No derailleur in the world can do that. Just waiting for the zerode e bike.
I have the Katipo trail version. But a Fox 36 150mm up front. Rotorua is my home and the first thing I noticed was the small bump sensitivity was amazing. 6 months later and I still can't stop smiling.
I’ve had a lot of MTBs since 1987, but after a year on a Katipo I can’t go back to a derailleur or a cassette. The shifting becomes second nature quickly. There are a few tiny changes I’d make, but it’s pretty amazing.
Cheers for this comment Will and it might be a bit of confirmation bias on my side but im definitely over having a cassette and derailleur as well. Can't wait to have my own ZERODE like you!
Get one! Rear suspension is better than anything else. Handling is awesome with the gearbox putting the weight low and centred. Gearbox took me 5 minutes to get used to.
I've had this bike for 6 months - it's the best. Absolutely love it. I've but coil on the rear suspension as well and it's buttery smooth. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the bike. Now I want to try the new effigear 9-speed gearbox. For reference I ride enduro on the BC coast and regularly hit 5-8ft drops and jumps. If I was riding more cross country style, or trail riding, I would probably want a bit lighter bike but for pedaling up and ripping down, this is awesome. Plus for me with all coil, I only have to do my bigger maintenance once a year during the winter when the riding sucks, so no downtime during the summer season.
Legendary comment thanks Ryan and appreciate you taking the time to give me much desired feedback on your experience using the bike. Can i ask if you run the TANIWHA or KATIPO?
Great edit Tommo. I think you will find any 29er different. If you get it and try it on your local trails you will notice find out if it is better for you. Getting a demo isn’t easy in this day and age though!
Thanks for the feedback Jase. I've not really ridden many 29r's and making the switch now seems right and justified. I instantly noticed the difference in ride feel and handling and surprisingly the weight of the KATIPO "felt" lighter than my SC Nomad despite being a chonky 17kgs! I'm thankful i had a helping hand in getting a demo sorted. Cheers for watching as always bro!
@@TheMaoriThatBikes wow 17kg. think my ebike weight is that! My Pivot is around 14.5-15 and it feells pretty nimble for a big bike. Come join the 29 club.
Swingbridge holds up pretty well in the wind, always been able to get across it so far. Not always the case with the one on the Incline - wind can really zoom up 'Siberia'.
Zerode’s centred balance is different, so it takes a while to adjust to. Mulét feels great down hill, stable but still so fun to jump, pop off stuff and change direction quickly
Re: the cricket/static noise, I think that comes from the tensioner wheel on the belt. I got rid of that sound by wrapped the tensioner wheel with some inner tube rubber ;)

Thanks for watching bro. I can't say what the total cost is as i dont really know but if you go to zerodebikes.com/all-builds-and-pricing you should get some indicative pricing options there

Thanks for this feedback bro...definitely felt more stability in the turns with the benefits you mentioned
Man I love those POV shots. I'm no rider myself but I feel like I'm there!
It's pretty immersive ae mate! Thanks for the sub man and cheers for watching!
Ahhh, Makara in a gale. Make sure you keep both wheels on the ground eh!

@@TheMaoriThatBikes I'm running the Taniwha. It's a 2019 but I don't think the geometry has changed. I'm 185.5cm riding an XL

Surprised at how much movement there was just watching it bro
😍😍😍 those bikes are just amazing!! How cool would a Zerode Katipo E bike be tho
Dude!!! I was saying this to another mate of mine. Hells yeah it'd be sooo fire!
Key Info: The bike is a 475 (Large), I'm about 178cm and approx 76kg without any riding gear.
Once gave one a test ride down foo fighter at arapuke and found that the best time to shift is about (at low speed) a bike length before you need to
Chur thats good advice there Oli, thanks 👏
I've a Taniwha Trail. Best bike ever.
Nice bro. Anything specific that makes it the best ever? Appreciate ya comment!
That was cool lil runner bro… did you ever get around to owning one of their bikes?
Not until I've sold my SC bro 😪
Nice video. If I was a taller human or shorter arms I would may gone with a Katipo, but I love my Taniwha, in mulét mode or trail mode.
Ooooh yo the Mullet! How do you find it bro? Any thing to mention for a potential buyer?
