Those doors are so perfect with the style of the house. As for the cement block tower, don’t know if it’s available but a real big light matching your lights by your door and nice vines climbing the wall and pole for the light. Just a suggestion. Even Wally is cool and calm like the Dads. ❤❤

I love it guys it looked really good when ye came back from the dog walk..Rule of thumb coming from someone married to a professional painter. You paint what you see from the side you are looking from, for example the front door opened you pointed out the white was not yet painted inside the hinge area, but that would never be seen from the inside when the door is closed but is definitely seen from the outside when the door it open! Plus I think ye are nuts replacing the other door for exactly the same thing unless it has better R value. You can buy a new rubber seal, replace it, paint it, silicone it and voila...a new door!!
Ah, thanks for the pointers on what/where to paint those parts. That makes total sense. And unfortunately, the other door has a little rot at the bottom, so it needs to be replaced. We will be reusing it on a different project on one of our workshop buildings though.

Great job on your door. Square and all. I installed a door on my daughter's Alaska Home. It went thru 5 earthquakes and nothing was square - took all day. The neighbor painted their house all black. Style similar to your cabin. I think it gives the house an "ominous" look. Not my favorite color - but each to their own. Good video!!

Yep black looks super smart. My grandparents had an 18/19th century weather board house on the English coast. The traditional colour was black from using creosote as a wood preservative.

Installed a door the other day myself so definitely know what a job it is. Front door next. Your door looks amazing. Job well done. As to the wall, maybe creeping phlox as a perennial mixed with bubblegum petunias which would cascade over the wall and provide lots of summer color if the sun is right. Anyway, whatever you do come up with will be awesome.
Oh, good to hear we're in the same boat about installing new doors. They can be quite a pain, but definitely worth it once complete. As for the phlox, the rabbits devoured our spring phlox, so we've been a little hesitant to plant anymore, but we'll see what we can come up with.

I love the lights. I also like how the door and framing stands out with the partial painting around it. Maybe you should consider keeping it this way so it enhances the side door feature and lights. It also makes the door look bigger.🏳🌈🏳🌈

My 3 does and 4 fauns target my 3 bird baths between devouring my flowers and vegetables!

10,000 subs?? Who knew there were that many “ crazy” people out there😂 Here is a suggestion for the concrete pillar outside: clad with a copper overlay to play off the outdoor lights Todd just installed,
then put a “ statue” or something on top of the concrete pillar- if you found a prefab water feature that you like, use that, and just put a vase at the base of the copper cladded pillar and “ voila”, 2 birds with one stone, a copper cladded pillar that incorporates a water feature for Todd..( if you wanted to experiment cheaply, Home Depot or other has copper roof flashing in a roll that you can assemble an oversized wood box to cover the concrete, clad with copper and see if you like it)…good luck..
A Virginia creeper or other could work on that hill outside…😊

Looking good! I think y’all should use the black for the trim and the doors and do the cracked pepper on the siding for some contrast. As for the cement pillar, it would look really good if you could attach some sort of lantern on the top of it.
We have been toying with that idea ever since we painted that area. 👍

some years ago my mother replaced all of the knobs on their doors with handles, i thought that was such a good idea that a couple of years ago my locks were giving me trouble so i replaced all the knobs on my exterior doors with handles too, it is good to plan for the future one example is lack of dexterity may become a problem

Doors are notoriously frustrating. A couple comments.
1. Watch the black paint. I had some relatives paint a guest house black and it was a magnet for woodpeckers.
2. To hide that wall, i'd suggest nandinas. You can get small ones that are usually red, but the regular size green leafed ones get big enough to cover the wall plus white flowers in the spring. In the winter big red clusters of berries make great Xmas decorations with the greenery.
Had not heard that before about the woodpeckers. I hope that's not something that would impact us. And great idea about nandinas! We'll be adding that to our list. Thank you!

You could always sand/repaint to save the older door. Easier & maybe not as wasteful...? Hopefully you'll donate your older stuff to a repurposing place...😊
We're actually going to do just that! We plan on reusing both doors later on with other places on the property. It might just take us a little while before we get to that. 👍

I will always love a nice water feature. I'm sure it's already be thought of and/ or mentioned, but how would it be to put large planting bowl on top of the block column? Then plant a fig vine that will creep up and around and take over the column?

I love the interior color, but I think you need to change the color of the trim. Just my suggestion so that it accentuates the door or what ever is trimmed.

Well, he escaped from 2 different dog parks because his nose just takes him on different paths. 😉 We give him plenty of time to run around in other dog runs, which he loves.
