Ninjago has always been my favorite show in all of fiction. So when I heard it was getting a movie, I was thrilled. And when I watched the Movie, I actually really liked it. It’s never gonna be as good as the show itself, but the fact that Ninjago was actually able to get its own movie is just amazing.

Disappointing fact: The movie was rushed since the original concept for it was for the ninja time travel back to stop the great devour from turning garmadon evil. This is the main reason why a lot of the backgrounds are just real life objects and stuff.-.
The movie felt so off and unnecessary. Lloyd's the only ninja that gets any focus, the others are reduced to caricatures, Garmadon's development is so rushed, and worst of all, there's NO SPINJITZU! The show was so much better, and I genuinely feel so sad knowing _Ninjago_ will never get a good actual theatrical film.

I believe the reason why not everything is not made out of Lego in this movie (like water, land, rocks, etc) is because that’s how the Lego show is, they probably made that choice to be accurate more towards the show while at the same time doing their own thing
I remember watching this in theaters in 2017 and being so pissed off and how they bastardized one of my favorite shows of my childhood, and it didn’t help that when season eight came by, their new designs was exactly from the movie.
I mean, it's VERY unfaithful to the TV show. This might as well be a completely different universe/story (which it kind of is). There is very LITTLE that's carried over from the TV show to the movie, and I could list out EVERY difference between them if you want me to. So as an adaptation to a show, it crumbles and falls apart. But as it's own thing, if you don't compare it to the show, it's FINE, it's a serviceable if a little messy kids movie. I will say this though, I'm glad this movie exists because it gave us the ICONIC "La-Lloyd" joke. (Yep. For those who never watched the show, you'll be shocked to hear that this joke, that people have memed over and over again, NEVER HAPPENED in the show.)
The good thing is that the new seasons (except for S10 and s11) actually turned out good, by it's high ratings, which was what brought fans back into it.
Many don't like the movie for being more of a Lego Movie spinoff with alternate versions of the Ninjago characters, and the fact they were expecting a Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu movie rather than this, but I always found the hate to be overblown. Is it still considered the weakest of the Lego movie franchise? No idea. Do I still love it despite its differences? Yes. Props for having a version of Misako that was actually likeable.
It's kinda interesting how LEGO keep coming back round to Ninjago with their projects compared to their other original sets. Bionicle was more popular and it saved the company from bankruptcy, but it stopped making profits after the first couple of years and it was incompatible with most bricks. So it holds this niche status of being in huge demand for a story wrap-up or continuation, but likely never getting it because LEGO won't make money from it after the first two or so years.
Tbh this was a funny movie. I enjoyed it the jokes were good. I don't really consider it canon because the details vary from the show I grew up watching but I actually enjoyed watching it. I'm not really sure why so many people hated it. The "ow that hit me in my kidney" part was hilarious.
About the cat, it's actually not CGI. It's real footage of cats. Meowthra is played by two different cats at different points, named Pearl and Ruby awww :)

The reason why this movie did not do well is because the fan base for stuff like DC and Batman is way bigger than the Ninjago fan base. I used to watch the Ninjago TV show every night as a kid and stopped after season 5. A year ago I decided to rewatch it and catch up on the current seasons and I can safely say that it’s a show that grows up with its audience. The early seasons are for kids from the age range of 8 to 12 while the later seasons are in the age range of 13 to 18. Although I have not seen the newest seasons, I have noticed that they replaced some of the ninjas and I don’t have an opinion on it yet. If you are a Ninjago fan than this movie is decent but if you are not, just skip it.

A large majority of Ninjago fans prefer the show to the movie and it’s kinda obvious to see. I personally like the jokes in this movie.

This movie has the plot of a Nickelodeon original movie with the budget of a Triple A game.
I’d highly recommend the Lego mobile kid show. It has a very interesting world based on Chinese mythology and the story telling is really well done.
