Alfa Romeo Tonale hybrid 2023 review: PHEV | Will sleek design, impressive tech make this SUV a hit?

Alfa Romeo has been high on recognition but low on sales in Australia for some time. While the mid-size Stelvio SUV has generated some interest, the Giulia sedan has so far failed to fire.
So, Alfa has high hopes its smaller Tonale SUV will strike a chord with local buyers.
Already open for orders in 'mild' hybrid form, this petrol-electric plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the Tonale is due to join the line-up in Australian showrooms in late 2023.
Iolande Skinner has sampled the Tonale PHEV on a pre-launch drive in Italy to see if it has what it takes to meet the needs of Aussie buyers and snatch sales from its well-credentialed Euro rivals.

Bootspace is not 500 liters, that is for the Hybrid models.
The PHEV has 385 liters.

The PHEV version has 385l and not 500l of space. Come on, get your facts straight. You had the car and you didn't spend 5 seconds to open up the boot lid to see there's only space for charging cable? Puts a perspective into how much effort was given by a reviewer into this car.

I had 2 Alfa Romeo cars in the past. Great to look at inside and out, nice drive too. Shame about quality, reliability, dealer services and cost of ownership. I won't consider it until warranty is extended to 10 years and capped services are available for 10 years too.

The highest end PHEV Hornet comparable to the Tonale is pretty close in price. Only a few thousand less. And I wouldn't be caught in a Dodge for anything. It's truly the worst car in the country. And it doesn't look nearly as pretty.
