  • Focussing on the labour of farming, this documentary offers a portrait of the everyday practices of a modern conventional dairy system.
Dairy farming can be like Groundhog Day with daily tasks like milking and mucking out sheds. Captured on a Cumbrian family farm, the subjects present how much effort and skill goes into producing milk. The film follows the farmers as they go fertiliser spreading, feeding cows and much less obvious jobs like tagging calves' ears and removing metal contaminants from fodder.
Filmed near Penrith, Cumbria in North West England.
My Granddad grew up on this same farm and it was his father's pride and joy until he left in 1972 when Lowther Estate took it back into their own hands. The Fisher Family have been farming there since 1990 with an enthusiasm and passion that I'm sure my Great Granddad, John William Losh, would be impressed by.
Thank you to Jim Fisher Jnr, Jim Fisher Snr, Matt Fisher, Mark Fisher and Richard Fisher for welcoming me onto the farm.
