I found an amazing, all original Martin D-28. I told them to not sell it. It was being sold by a 14 year old(@joshualovesbluegrass). He was selling it so that he could buy his own D-35.

The real story here is Grandad selling his D 28 that he's owned for 53 years. And doing it to help his grandkids. Deep respect. He's also a fine player.

I was fully in the "he can't sell it" camp right up until I heard Joshua describe his pastor's D35. 14 or not, he's a real player and he knows what he wants to play. He clearly needed to own that 35. The memory of standing side by side with grandpa when he sold his D28 to help Joshua buy the 35 will live with him forever. Awesome story.

He might, but I don't think so. He's having the guitar he wants and he'll be perfectly happy with it. When he's older he may think of the value of the D28, but his grandpa made it very clear that he has four grandchildren. The kid will understand. In fact, he will always share this moment with his granddad. A granddad with a lot of love for all of his guitar playing grandchildren. Is there a better way to remind him of his generosity than this? I don't think so.

Cool show and segment! I have my father's '70something Guild that he bought and played for my sisters and family and I growing up. He wrote most of his songs on it and for the last few years I've written the songs I've always dreamed of writing on it and love to play. It'll go when I go...and playing it for just a minute is the last thing I do before I go to bed every night. Sobriety and the Guild were key in saving and changing my life for the better. Jeremy, what a very special story and thank you for sharing it with us. And Josh, you are a great young player and you make all of us older guitar players proud to see your talent on display here. In the 70's I would buy what have now become expensive vintage electric and acoustic guitars from the 1950's and 60's which were frequently advertised in our local newspaper. Every once in awhile I would keep one of those guitars for 5-10 years but more often I would end up selling or trading them to friends who also played guitar. It was a constant carousel of guitars so seeing Grandpa here having bought a new Martin D28 for $400 in 1967 and having held on to it for all those years is just a wonderful story and reminds me of what I wish I'd done with some of the gems that passed through my hands. Maybe Josh will keep that D-35 for 53 years!
PS. Jeremy, call up Josh one day and take him to the Martin Guitar Factory in Nazareth PA, It will be the trip of a lifetime for you both.

That was a sweet story the Grandpa told and the little boy was so cute. He could really play that thing. The Grandpa is close to my age. My first job paid $1.40 per hour until someone reported my boss to the state after working there a year and then he had to pay me back pay and a nice sized fine when he should have been paying me $1.50 per hour! Anyway, I bought an acoustic guitar over 40 years ago and it sat in the box. About 4 years ago, I was in a book store looking at a book about learning how to play guitar and a friend told me if I promised to learn how to play guitar, he would buy me the book. He did and I did. I learned how to play guitar just over 3 years ago. I sold that one, upgraded to a better one and then sold that one and upgraded to an even better one. Now I own 4 guitars (Two Acoustic Electrics and two electric guitars) and had to stop myself from buying more. My prized guitar is a nice Zager built by Mr. Zager himself (In the Year 2525) that's a bit over 3 years old now and sounds better each day. John

i'm crying right now as I'm about to buy a new guitar after not having one for a year (thinking I didn't need it). I've never missed a guitar as much as I do that first one I bought with my own money. Gave it to someone who I knew would play it and love it as much as I did. can't wait to have a Martin 000-15M in my possession and love that one forever. It's my dream guitar, since I'm still just an amateur. Thanks for the video. I remember when I was Josh and just trying to advance my skill with a good guitar

You should see how this story ends. It's even better than that. Check out the other videos in the playlist. I sold it then we go and play with Raymond (grandpa)

@@JeremySheppard how do I find video you are speaking of?
I cannot play one note (nor sing a note, hum a note, nada) but always loved hearing my husband play. I do not even know ___?____ age or kind, wood etc Martin he owns, given to him by his mother. He has an Epson he bought when he was in college
(Hubby is almost 71 and he has taken excellent care of both)
I want to do ALL the justice (my best) to his Martin & Epson possible. I want someone that will love them the way my husband did. Both our children have passed and our grands are not interested. I am searching for a way to honor husband, his guitars ... it would be nice to somehow help a rising & hardworking, upcoming star.
How do I begin to find out about each?

I have my grandfather’s 1958 Gibson LG-O and it is NOT for sale. 😀 All mahogany top, back, and sides. Great guitar. Sounds killer and is very loud. I play it every Sunday at church and throughout the week. This was a great story you shared here Jeremy and the kid could play a little. Grandpa was a nice gentleman as well and is encouraging the grandsons in music. Pretty cool. That Martin sounds like a cannon by the way and I feel you got a good deal on a great, old guitar. I liked your advice and attitude and you seem to be very respectful in your dealings with other people. Great video!

Jeremy You have my admiration & respect for your honesty in trying to convince them not to sell!!!!!!! The young man may indeed wish that he had that guitar back after his grandpa passes, but he will also have a great experience & memory of buying a new Martin with his grandpa & that's worth just as much. You did nothing wrong & the ppl condemning you in the comments are wrong in doing so. Congratulations on the find & if you keep it, I hope you thoroughly enjoy the many yrs of music left in it!!!!!!!

For anyone who thinks Joshua is great here, you HAVE to go over and see his own videos at "Joshua loves bluegrass". He not only sings too, but you find out that guitar isn't even his best instrument. When you hear him play mandolin you know what a real star he is.

What a beautiful sharing of getting this great legend. Grandpa bought it new. Grandson plays like a champ and now parting with it. Knowing what it is to share something special with a grandson, I can understand the significance here. Not to mention that Joshua is selling to move up to another level. This kid can play no doubt. Thank you for sharing this.

You scored Very well there. That guitar is a cannon, so warm and sweet. That would kick the majority of $10,000 plus guitars out there.

It's Aug. 2020 now. I found a 2003 D-28 on Reverb in June I knew I just had to have. I knew this guitar was what I really was looking for. It took dozen's of other guitars, thousands of hours, & thousands of dollars for me to get that in the pocket feeling. The guitar had been factory refreshed & Plecked in 2016. It was at the price where it was worth getting. Why spend $2500 on a used when you can get new for $3 g's? This guitar was under $2 g's & I thought because of the work done on it at the time it was done, worth the price. I feel blessed, lucky, chosen, & happy playing my Martin D-28.
