i'm a first time viewer, but I am now fan of yours sir. Such a big heart and an awesome person. I wish the world had more people like you in it. Stay positive and make the world a better place is the perfect message. all the best
Sounds freaking good. I am from the gulf coast of Mississippi and appreciate your sentiments regarding Hurricane Katrina. Keep the stories coming Jeremy. One avid guitar collector and guitar lover to another!
Jeez, Martin are sensitive folks, feedback good or bad should always be welcome to a company that makes guitars worth so much, I'd love to own 1 but I can't afford it.
Lol I agree. I just bought one from sweetwater. And we all know how great sw is but even they gave me a little issue because they said I was emailing too much and they would rather talk on the phone. Have you ever tried to get through to your sales rep at Sweetwater? It’s constant VM and I have to work. It’s easier just to email and I am buying a 3700 dollar guitar so just answer my emails! Anyhow my point is what is wrong with companies? Even the better ones like Martin and Sweetwater act like they’re being inconvenienced. And we all need positive and negative feedback to get better.
Jeremy, what a beautiful message. As a Florida boy, I’ve seen my share of hurricanes and I never thought that I would have to deal with them again when I moved up north to New Jersey. Enter hurricane Sandy and my deepest anxiety about hurricanes came back to me. That instinct to go out and help others was activated and I think most people should think the way that you do. Especially today, human suffering is everywhere and you can clearly see it each time you drive past a food bank or a soup kitchen. It is really important that we all have some measure of kindness, compassion and empathy towards our fellow human beings. I think so much of that has been lost and I applaud you for your thoughts. I’ve been through my own struggles and I am now blind and have lost a leg but I continue to try to help others. Use the gifts that G-d has given you to make this world a better place. By the way, your new guitar sounds very nice.
I am originally from Ocala, Florida.... Now between Delaware and my mountain retreat 30 minutes from Martins headquarters. I was saving for a martin guitar and found a 1970 greentop fg300 hummingbird lawsuit guitar that gives me the feels everytime I pick it up. Fate.... I feel there's a one guitar for every inspired musician. Godspeed and blessings sent.
This video is the reason I watch this channel. The stories, the stories behind the guitars, the stories surrounding buying them. Cool, cool story about the Gulf Coast and helping others in needs.
Hello sir, I couldn’t reach my phone to change the video so I just listened to it. First off what a great story and you presented it very well. I’m 46 and after owning a guitar for over 30 years I’m a very early learner and your noodling made me stop and grab my guitar to practice. But the message of this video was wonderful. I am a vet I had some very kind people find me and send my on a hunt. I cannot tell you how healing that was. I now volunteer and take other vets on fishing and hunting trips. Giving back does so much more for a person than receiving. Thank you for posting this video and God Bless
one important thing about guitars is - they must suit the player. This guitar suits you perfectly, it fits your playing just right. I can see/hear how you interact with it, and very nice/gentle/emotional playing, too. Listening to the instrument while playing it is the key. And thank you for the important words on training our courage to help others. Keep it up. Cheers from germany
Also, it's obvious that this gentleman is extremely passionate about Martin acoustic guitars. Instead of deleting your comments they ought to give you a prize. This was a very informative video in terms of learning about Martin acoustic guitars.
First time on your channel, amazing video. Liked and subbed! Was just expecting a video of a guitar but got alot more. Sometimes the world feels so full of hate it's always good to hear from someone who puts so good back into the world. It might sound silly but we are all here sharing a brief moment in time that could be gone any second, and we are all in this together. Helping others thru hardships is how we raise eachother up. Can't wait to see what you do next
I just found your channel today, I am 20 and I have really been wanting to learn how to play guitar; I have been saving up to hopefully own a Martin one day. I loved your message! Thank you for your positive wisdom Jeremy. Hope all is well for you!
When you played that guitar at the end of the video, after your brilliant Gulf Coast story it was one of the most beautiful sounding instruments I've heard on any TH-cam video ever. I think mahogany topped guitars make you work a little bit, you have to be in the moment more then they just let you have it. I think I want one. 🖖
I agree about what you say about mahogany. I play quiet a lot, and love a acoustic with built in volume control. Spruce can be way too loud even with a light touch for my style. I love my mahogany guitars. Such a rounded sound and when you really get on em they open up and get loud without the sound thinning out. Its natures perfect eq sound imo.
it was interesting to hear your story about katrina. i went on a mission trip to help clean up/rebuild after katrina to bay st louis. it was a very heavy trip to go there and see the total destruction, there werent even very many locals left in the area. played guitar for the first time in front of a crowd at the food tent set up by the mennonite church, ill never forget that. i've always wondered how that town recovered in the years following, have to return there for a po'boy. bought my daughter a d-15 that is so incredible sounding, love that mahogany!!! great video!!!
My church sent several groups down to Mississippi. I went with I think the second one or so. It was fantastic to be able to help. Our little town outside Harrisonburg actually able to do something.
That guitar has to be gone, but what a treasure. I started with an old Gianini Classical and just got my first Martin Dreadnought Jr. I love it. My next buy will be a vintage Martin like this one.... Thanks for your channel.
I have to say that is probably one of the best sounding acoustics i have heard in forever, and would be lucky to find one like that for myself someday. Good stuff!
Cool heart felt story, best guitars land in hands that way. Thanks for sharing, think you should keep it feel in my bones. I would have that off you in a hearbeat but there is regret there round the corner sure of it, so hang on to it. Thanks for sharing.
You are a truly soulful guy Jeremy. I would love to add that D17 to my very small collection, but we just live too far away. Maybe I will find one one day. God bless and be well. (Man, I need to read what I type and what gets auto added)
Mahogany with ebony! I've got an old carlos knock off takemine thing that's all mahogany with an ebony board and a plastic bridge, and it sounds rad as hell.
Hi Jeremy, I just found your channel a couple of weeks ago when I was researching a Martin I was looking to get. I have been so encouraged by your love of music, guitars, and people. Just wanted to say thank you.
Our church took a group to Biloxi a year after Katrina..we were all helping rebuild at whatever our skill levels might be..I had my Taylor 810 with me that week was definitely a watershed moment in my life
I loved your story! I also went down to help out after Katrina! I just finished a 16 month deployment to Iraq and one of my best friends that I deployed with was from New Orleans. Instead of coming back to Indiana to see my family, I decided to go down with my friend to help his family. I'll never forget those images of devastation that are basically burned into my brain. It was pretty crazy to come home from Iraq and see what I was witnessing in our own country. I felt so bad for my friend's family. They were definitely lower than middle class, so they struggled before the hurricane. Katrina took every little bit that they had, but the important thing was the fact they all survived it. Because the only possession that really matters in times like that and it's your family/support system being intact! My friend has since passed away but I, still to this day, stay in touch with his family. They now live in Houston Texas and have came a very long way. Once again, I really enjoyed this video and your channel is one of my favorites on here! I wish you and your family well, sir!
First time I hear an acoustic guitar singing magnificently like this from my smartphone. What a beautiful instrument. (Greetings from Montreal, QC, CANADA)
I have an all mahogany Larrivee OM-05 MT and I love it! I live in MS so these videos that originate here always hit home. I wasn't here during Katrina, but know so many people who were and have heard how it affected them. Thanks for sharing these stories, videos, and great guitars.
Great looking and sounding D-17! I think you got a great deal at $1000, especially considering their limited production and unique appointments. FWIW, that guitar has the same mortise and tenon neck joint and hybrid A-frame X bracing as the 16 series at that time. The style 17 first showed up in Martin’s catalog in 1874 with rosewood b/s and a spruce top. It disappeared in 1898 and was reintroduced in 1906 with mahogany b/s and a spruce top and stayed until 1916. Style 17 returned in 1922 as the all mahogany version that stuck around in various sizes and configurations until it was discontinued (except by special order) in 1960. Fast forward to 2000 when the all mahogany style 17 was reintroduced as a deluxe version of the extremely successful modern 15 series with an initial offering of the D-17 and the 00-17 full gloss models. They used the more sophisticated 16 series hybrid scalloped A-frame bracing, as opposed to the simpler 1 series bracing on the 15 series. Both the 15 and 17 series used the same glued mortise and tenon neck joint that was originally introduced in the 1 series construction and continued in the 16 series. The “bolt” in that joint can be found under the plate on the neck block that has the model and serial number on it. The bolt was used during production to clamp the m/t neck joint while the glue dried and left in place both to save time and to reinforce the neck joint. If you want confirmation of this information, I suggest you check the book Martin Guitars: A Technical Reference by Richard Johnston and Dick Boak pages 57 and 118. D-17 production totals are on page 264. I share your love of all things Martin, and the more unusual all mahogany Martins in particular. I own: J12-15 D-15S 000-15 (An early example with no rosewood head plate and the back is actually quilted mahogany!) 00-15S custom 12 fret with 16 series bracing, Waverly tuners, bone nut/saddle and a real inlaid herringbone rosette 5-15 Terz guitar
Good story and with a pure honest guitar performance for your round out resalution on the beautiful instrument. We love your guitar searching travels !
I picked up a used (but in perfect condition) Martin J12-15 12-string mahogany (satin finish) about 10 years ago from the Guitar Center in Boise, ID. With the full mahogany body, it is still the most beautiful guitar I own. It has a soft, sweet sound that blends perfectly with my D-28 (which I have owned for about 30 years). Your D17 has that same sweet tone and gorgeous mahogany body (and I do love the gloss finish). Good find!
The lessons learned in those 10 days helping people in the aftermath of Katrina taught you more than any of your college classes could have in that time and more. Hats of to you sir!
Funny. I accidently bought one. I thought I was getting a D17M. I had no idea there was a previous model. It's a great guitar for strumming, but too dark for finger picking for my ear, so I ended up getting a D17M too. I use the D17 for alternate tuning strummed songs. Sounds rich and gorgeous for that.
Did some hurricane relief work after Katrina, was gulf coast Mississippi for 3 and a half years, mostly in the Biloxi, gulfport area, while I was there found some of the best pawn shop finds of my life, an 81 tobacco les paul custom for 900 bucks, a high end Alvarez Yairi for 250, a roland re 555 space echo sold as is, for 185 bucks (nothing wrong with it except a 3 dollar pinch roller replacement, etc..etc..some amazing finds
That martin sounds very very good. I have a d15 and was my first martin and love it. I keep looking on craigs list and one of these days I’m going to find another one and make a deal. You always seem to find the best ones but you look hard for them congrats..
Touching story and now...i have subscribed! Peace be with ya bro! and Yeah Love your playing Plus you have a BIG HEART! That takes more than Courage...it take a Gentle Soul and "Putting" Yourself into another's Shoes for more than a day! I Am Glad it changed your outlook on life... Keep being Amazing! and God Bless!
My pastor has one of these and it’s beautiful, I was playing it the other day and I noticed a huge bad crack on the back of the guitar, it looks as if someone ran into or dropped it, when I saw it my hart just sank, it wasn’t me that broke it but it’s still a beautiful guitar
Thank you Jeremy for this post....I've watched it twice now, something I don't commonly do, and was moved, from as a guitar lover but also from a humanistic perspective.
The story about being banned was interesting - your talking about how you experience of serving was inspiring; it could and maybe should be its own video! thanks . . . peace.
I LOVE the OG D-17s. I saw one used about 10 years ago for $650 in a local shop, and I declined, even though I loved it. I was saving for a Breedlove that I always wanted. I ended up getting that Breedlove and absolutely hating it. I called up the shop if they had that Martin, and it was gone. That's one that still pokes at me, and it's been 10 years! I too was so mad when the reintroduced it only to have too many special things changed about it. Super bummer.
I just found you, I applaud your kindness, your spirit,God Bless,I’m an old man now and you brought back memories of sadly my lack of concern for my fellow man,I’m recently back in touch with God and I go back to when I was a young man in living for Christ and yet I didn’t do the things you’ve done at such an early age, Now I’m so glad to be back and without the burden of that life I lived,, now I too want to help and lead folks to a awareness of how we can love one another and stop the divide of this One Nation Under God Indivisible, thank you,,, lol I’m trying to learn to play guitar,I guess your never to old to try, loved your story on the Martin 17 series, Maybe someday I can find a guitar that will fit me,,, I’ll keep watching and saving my money,I’m disabled now for 12 years and just lost half of my income(had a private disability fund that stopped paying at 65,,)so I’ve got two guitars, both just don’t fit me,Guitar center just ripped me, but my fault, just didn’t do my homework...but I hope to someday to find one that I can buy from you😎🙏
I'd love to see a screen shot of the comments that got you banned. I'm sure they're sincere and constructive criticisms with a calm, reasonable tone based on what I know about the internet. (waits for acerbic PM)
Hmmm. I have had an '89 D 16 glosstop for many, many years. It's a real cannon. I never knew the construction differences you mentioned here. But I have always loved it's tone. Best sounding acoustic I've ever owned.
D-17s are definitely nice guitars, but you're right about them not being for everyone. My own preference is spruce and rosewood, though I have played some guitars with koa or walnut back and sides that I've really liked! One of the best guitars I've ever played was a friend's Huss & Dalton D-RH. It was one of those special guitars that almost played itself. Unfortunately, my friend no longer has it. He's one of those guys who's always chasing after "the sound," which he has yet to find. The good thing for me is that I've gotten to play some amazing guitars: a Martin D-28 Marquis, a Mossman, a Collings, and a couple of 70s era D-18s and D-28s.
Jeremy, great story! Love the passion and heart you have for other people in need, its very encouraging to see! If that guitar isn't gone yet, I would be interested in buying it from you! Let me know, not sure how to get in touch.
I like what you said about people suffering after Katrina and what you did. My wife and I were due to fly to New Orleans for that week and decided at the last minute to cancel and head south of us to our place in Pagosa Colorado
I’m not familiar with the 17,that to my ear is one of the sweetest sounding guitars u have had on there. Maybe not as boomy and loud as some? But love that TONE! I love the coast as well making plans last night to go spend a week there in may or June!👌 Thanks for the video, again great sounding guitar...
I absolutely hate hearing anyone get censored for an opinion. That thing sounds great!” So full. Oh and I’ve been through 13 hurricanes starting with Andrew. Cheers mate.
I have owned a D-17 from 2004. It's a bolt on as well. the bolt head is behind the martin branded wooden plate on the neck block. At least that's how mine was. Also the bridge and fingerboard are not ebony, they're micarta.
I am a Martin Lover! That guitar has the best blend of tonal qualities I have ever heard in one guitar. I was absolutely floored as soon as I heard it and I still can't believe it.
I had the D-17 with the Sitka shaded top and it was one of the best sounding Martins I have ever owned. If it weren’t for financial things I’d still have it.
Hey Jeremy, Love your channel. I had a D19 that I got rid of years ago and have been looking for one ever since. (not interested in buying one back from Japan) The D17 is the Closest thing to the 1977 D19 that I let go. The top is obviously different Mahohany vs stained Spruce, and the accents D-28 style rosette and double line around the back binding.
i'm a first time viewer, but I am now fan of yours sir. Such a big heart and an awesome person. I wish the world had more people like you in it. Stay positive and make the world a better place is the perfect message. all the best

@@R.L.Humpert sweetwater has been really good for me

Awesome story and experience. I remember feeling helpless as I was watching footage from Katrina. God bless you brother. Play on!
I am an all mahogany acoustic guy and I must say that is a stunning piece of beauty. Good advice
Hello sir,

I love this video. It's a great story with the beginning, middle, and end. I could write a screenplay about this.
First vid I've seen. Gotta say dude ,you are so inspiring. Keep on living the life and thank you.
Good story, I was a senior in high school that year and my late mother went down to Starkville to volunteer.
it was interesting to hear your story about katrina. i went on a mission trip to help clean up/rebuild after katrina to bay st louis. it was a very heavy trip to go there and see the total destruction, there werent even very many locals left in the area. played guitar for the first time in front of a crowd at the food tent set up by the mennonite church, ill never forget that. i've always wondered how that town recovered in the years following, have to return there for a po'boy. bought my daughter a d-15 that is so incredible sounding, love that mahogany!!! great video!!!
Wow Jeremy. I have 4 Martins and up to now I have never even heard of the D-17. Learn something new every day. Sounds sweet.
What a beautiful guitar, and it sounds so good! I hope you still have it. It is on my 'hope to have one someday' list. Blessings!
Without the Mahogany top, it's a quality level down. Glad you got the real deal, surprised Martin would try to cheap out.
Thank you for your help after Katrina. It's much appreciated! From a resident of Bay st. Louis and Pass Christian!
First time watching your channel and I’m totally impressed by both your playing and positive message in helping those in need. 👍
My church sent several groups down to Mississippi. I went with I think the second one or so. It was fantastic to be able to help. Our little town outside Harrisonburg actually able to do something.
Another great vid brother - awesome story and powerful message. Plus a beautiful Martin !!!

I have an old d16h from1993 if your interested
Wow, that guitar sounds amazing. Thank you for your story. Both were very touching.
What an amazing sounding guitar !!! I wish I could find something like that ...
Nice story and thanks for sharing ... 🙏
You can! What's some other videos and hang out on the live chats to ask questions. I'll help you find cool stuff in real life.
Thank you for the nice story!
Jeremy thank you for following your heart, its very authentic and sincere... Now I’ve subscribed so I can follow it too ❤️
Cool heart felt story, best guitars land in hands that way. Thanks for sharing, think you should keep it feel in my bones. I would have that off you in a hearbeat but there is regret there round the corner sure of it, so hang on to it. Thanks for sharing.
WOW!! What a needed message to end with. Thank you!
I liked the video - the quality and candor of the video earned a sub from me. Keep up the great work!
Thank you. I am hooked. Can't wait for more of your observations and adventures.
That guitar takes to recording really well...sounds great in this video. Thanks for covering this guitar and hope you and yours are doing great.
I dig the surreptitious parking lot footage!
I have a playlist on my channel called Guitar Safaris where I try to do this
You are a truly soulful guy Jeremy. I would love to add that D17 to my very small collection, but we just live too far away. Maybe I will find one one day. God bless and be well. (Man, I need to read what I type and what gets auto added)
That's a beautiful guitar. I love the glossy finish. It looks stunning with the mahogany.

Beautiful video! ❤️ Such a meaningful trip and guitar purchase!
I lived in Biloxi, Mississippi in the Mid 1980's. This Video brought back alot of memories of that time. Thanks for the Memories.

Well this is cool to see younger guys still into guitars!
Great story man, blessings to you and yours.

Hey Jeremy. Here in Texas we lived that (Katrina).
I've already got 2 6-string Martins, but thats a pretty one with good sound. Enjoy your posts.
Right on! You just got yourself a new subscriber from a long time drummer learning guitar.
The lessons learned in those 10 days helping people in the aftermath of Katrina taught you more than any of your college classes could have in that time and more. Hats of to you sir!
Beautiful guitar, mahogany tops are great. I recently saved up my tip money and bought a new D-15m and love it.
Just watched this. It made me tear up. Thank you for being you.
It reminds me of a Guild D25. Those are real workhorses.
🙌🏻🎸 That Martin is beautiful!!
Great stories, great video. This has become one of my go-to guitar channels. Carry on, Guitar Hunter! Easter soon!
Thanks for the help with Katrina... My daughter lives there and was there through the storm..
The story about being banned was interesting - your talking about how you experience of serving was inspiring; it could and maybe should be its own video! thanks . . . peace.
I love all mahogany guitars. I had a 1969 Guild D 25 which I gave up as part of a trade fo a Martin D 35. I would love to have a Mahogany top D 17 !
Thank you for helping. May God richly bless...
17 series are fantastic guitars, especially the 12th fret.
I just found you, I applaud your kindness, your spirit,God Bless,I’m an old man now and you brought back memories of sadly my lack of concern for my fellow man,I’m recently back in touch with God and I go back to when I was a young man in living for Christ and yet I didn’t do the things you’ve done at such an early age,
Now I’m so glad to be back and without the burden of that life I lived,, now I too want to help and lead folks to a awareness of how we can love one another and stop the divide of this One Nation Under God Indivisible, thank you,,, lol I’m trying to learn to play guitar,I guess your never to old to try, loved your story on the Martin 17 series,
Maybe someday I can find a guitar that will fit me,,, I’ll keep watching and saving my money,I’m disabled now for 12 years and just lost half of my income(had a private disability fund that stopped paying at 65,,)so I’ve got two guitars, both just don’t fit me,Guitar center just ripped me, but my fault, just didn’t do my homework...but I hope to someday to find one that I can buy from you😎🙏
Beautiful guitar Jeremy! I freaking love mahogany tops on guitars. Wish I could make that one mine.
I'd love to see a screen shot of the comments that got you banned. I'm sure they're sincere and constructive criticisms with a calm, reasonable tone based on what I know about the internet.
(waits for acerbic PM)
Your playing brings out a beautiful sound from that guitar.
Oddly, I have a Guild D 17 also all mahogany from 1980. Lovely warm sound.
Thanks for sharing Jeremy.
That guitar is do rich, in color and in tone just beautiful! Also, i believe there's a song there in your story! (just sayin)
Great looking and sounding Martin. Thanks for sharing,!
I absolutely hate hearing anyone get censored for an opinion.
That thing sounds great!” So full.
Oh and I’ve been through 13 hurricanes starting with Andrew. Cheers mate.
I've got a D-17 in Mahagony some years ago.
Warm, full sound and very easy to play.
I have owned a D-17 from 2004. It's a bolt on as well. the bolt head is behind the martin branded wooden plate on the neck block. At least that's how mine was. Also the bridge and fingerboard are not ebony, they're micarta.
Oh boy. Thanks for letting me know.
Martin change their standards big time!! It had to do with the need to compete with lower priced guitars since there were so many new competitors.
What is the nut width and bridge string spacing ? Nice guitar, good story.
I am a Martin Lover! That guitar has the best blend of tonal qualities I have ever heard in one guitar. I was absolutely floored as soon as I heard it and I still can't believe it.
Same!
Thank you for that Jeremy! Does the heart good
I love that guitar. I sure do wish I could buy it. Right now, I can't even play. Just getting started.
I had the D-17 with the Sitka shaded top and it was one of the best sounding Martins I have ever owned. If it weren’t for financial things I’d still have it.
I've been there. I'm sorry, Paul. I sold my D35 when I was in a full commission sales job during a recession in oil and gas.
That has a great sound to it. All mahogany looks beautiful dark like that.
Hey Jeremy,
Love your channel.
What a great video. I actually live 5 miles from your drone shot from ocean springs beach.
Sweet Martin! Excellent playing!
