A divorced Muslim woman can seek alimony from her husband under Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure - the law related to maintenance for wives - the Supreme Court ruled today. The big judgment came as a bench of Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice Augustine George Masih dismissed a Muslim man's petition challenging a direction to pay his wife maintenance after divorce.
"We are hereby dismissing the criminal appeal with the major conclusion that Section 125 would be applicable to all women and not just married women," Justice Nagarathna said. Justice Nagarathna and Justice Masih delivered separate, but concurrent, judgments.

Misinterpretation and misunderstanding of islamic personal law.
So,If any body refuses court decision let ask govt.for uniform civil code to all under one country.
I think SC wasted time passing this judgement. They won’t abide by this judgement, they will live by sharia law.

Divorce is divorce, whether it's from husband or wife.

Muslims should treat this as an isolated case and not protest against the judgement. The protests have only exacerbated the problems faced by Muslims and inadvertently aided their rivals.
Muslims are free to adhere to Islamic laws in their personal matters (99.99% doing so). Those who choose not to follow Islamic laws have the option to seek resolution through the courts. In such cases, both parties should respect the rulings of the judiciary. Importantly, accepting the verdict will prevents political parties from exploiting the situation.
The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is an impracticable form of uniformity that cannot be imposed on the people of a country with diverse backgrounds.

I am Muslim, even after divorce husband is fully responsible and he should make sure his divorced wife is living comfortably till she is settled down, not just throughout on street after separation. This is in Muslims Sharia Law. We are not only Muslims we are Indians national also. Husband have to abide by the law of India if he is living in India. Don't misuse Islam and Sharia law.

Need of the hour is Mohemedan personal law reforms , having done reforms in Hindu personal law since 1950 , the second largest majority has to follow suit. Follow it up with other religious denomination like Christian, Sikh Jain etc. Along with this, abolish sharia and other such communal courts and appointment under high court personal law tribunals manned by experts with broader world view. This approach itself will create parity over time, and UCC then will be a formality of common code.
Today the UCC is presented as a demon by political and religious leadership who are conservative or have vote bank agenda.
I'm against BJP. I have donated to Congress before the elections. But the problem with Congress is that muslim fundamentalists support Congress and Congress is happy taking their support just like BJP takes support of Hindu fundamentalists. Both these approaches make me puke.
