This was the first Bills game I ever went to. I went with my father (who has now passed) and my brother in law. Being at this game is a great memory for me. Thanks for the upload.
Thurman Thomas was one of the most underrated running backs ever. He got in the HOF, but is rarely mentioned in the same conversation with his contemporaries.
This was the turning point of the Bills season. After winning this game they would go on to win ten of their next eleven and go on to their first Super Bowl appearance.
As a Bills fan of over 50 years, I have never witnessed that defensive domination in that 3 minute stretch of the 4th. I remember this game because after this game they nearly did the same thing to the Raiders. Loved Criqui and Trumpy calling the game too. Thanks for posting, nice quality too.
All started with Nate odomes block. Odomes is one of the most underrated players in bills history. He made so many HUGE plays in big games. Played well in the Superbowls also.
These two franchises dominated the AFC from 1986-1993...with one of the two appearing in the Super Bowl every year besides 1988. And the Bills almost made it that year too...losing the AFC Championship Game in Cincinnati
@@DiversityDragons They sure did. Charlie Jones, Merlin Olsen, Todd Christensen, Marv Albert, Paul Maguire, Dick Enberg and Ahmad Rashad to name some of them.
Games like this make Football notoriously difficult to predict just based on stats. What hurts, is that blocked field goals are not a very widely kept standard stat. Without know about the one that was a 10 point swing in the 4th quarter, the one point victory by the Bills (still less the 8 point lead that had at one time) would be completely head scratching. At one point after the Bills were already up by 8 they put up a graphic of Denver miscues and the result. Guess what miscue wasn’t noted, though it clearly turned the whole game around!
I was baffled that Denver didn't go for 2 at the end, until I looked it up and saw that the 2-point conversation wasn't adopted until 1994. I didn't know it was so (relatively) recent.
Even though I've known for 27 years now that the Bills, Broncos, and Vikings were all 0-4 in Super Bowls at the same point in time (1994-1997), I never made the obvious connection that the Bills basically had the 0-4 baton passed to them by the Broncos in 1990 since they'd just completed making it to 0-4 in SBs after the 1989 season and then the Bills would immediately start their own 0-4 run in 1990. This game is basically that symbolic baton passing. It's like the Broncos sacrificed themselves to help the Bills get on their way and then looked the Bills right in the eye and said "Now go out there and make us proud!"
It began a stretch of 9 losses in 10 games, culminating in a 6-game losing streak where local radio DJ Rich Goins (the G Man) lived on a billboard until the streak ended in mid-December. That team was the epitome of Super Bowl hangover, they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory several times

why do game commentators always belittle the Buffalo Bills? rarely if ever do you hear anything good said against the Buffalo Bills .....I for one am sick of the commentators - they are so biased that they are nothing but dups for any team Buffalo plays. I am sick of them.
September 30. 1990-never forget this day-if only the Bills had Chuck Knox coaching them during this era (instead of that useless Marv Levy)-Knox didn't have anywhere near the personnel that Levy had to work with and yet made it to the playoffs with a "patchwork" roster in 1980-81. Levy on the other hand had the benefit of GM Bill Polian who built the team that went to the Super Bowl 4 X (Kelly, Thomas, Smith, Bennett etc) yet Levy couldn't win one of them
So true, not many people think like you and me. Levy, yes he's a famous name but Knox.....man.... he lifted the team up from the dark '70s years and was on a roll there by 1982, had the late Wilson not been so damn cheap like he notoriously was, we would have been in the Super Bowl sooner. Once again attacking Wilson here, Polian was the nuts and bolts this team and after the 92 season Bill Polian was gone because of Wilson and the team was never the same after the mid-90s until recently now that we've got a owner who's willing to spend whatever it takes to get the best players with a general manager that knows how to run the organization and a quarterback who's a good field General.
@@markm.j.lewandowskijr1171 Polian was ultimately fired because he didn't get along with the Bills treasurer-Jeff Lipton. Demented Ralph Wilson cared more about making money than he did about the product on the field. The only reason Polian became GM in the first place was because the man he replaced had a heart attack and Wilson wanted someone on the "cheap" and that was Polian. The fact that Polian turned out to be a genius was just serendipity-yet Wilson was so dense that he didn't realize what he had

Also loved Denver's old school helmet, with the snorting bronco inside the block D...bring back the classics
This was the turning point of the Bills season. After winning this game they would go on to win ten of their next eleven and go on to their first Super Bowl appearance.
Turning point for Denver, too, as they would lose 8 of their next 9 games after this one.
I remember. Four years in a row, they'd make it only just to lose all four superbowls.

Here’s the Bills 3 TDs in 1 minute 17 second: 1:47:41
It really starts at 1:44:20 with the blocked field goal.
Don Criqui was probably my favorite commentator. Listen at 1:47:50.
This started the the collapse of the Broncos that day.
Don Criqui is a native of Buffalo, New York, and grew up in the suburb of Kenmore
Absolutely! NBC had a powerhouse lineup of announcers in this era.

Three touchdowns in just over a minute. Bet them every week after this and went 10-2-1. Stayed back on the SB
When the Bills rallied for 3 scores, in 1:11, the crowd was deafening!
Bills only wanted one superbowl. Just one. But that's a record of going to four straight superbowls.
The amazing don criqui, from Buffalo

After all the buildup, neither QB was particularly good that day. QB ratings were abysmal: Elway 61.8, Kelly 54.4 - ouch!
