    THERE’S Black Scorpion! I met the TV series’ lead, Michelle Lintel, at a press event and still have the pics. She’s a goof, great sense of humor, as the series definitely proved. Basically every episode was Roger Corman saying “Put an attractive woman in a space bikini, and name her the villain of the week!”

      Corman gives the audience what they want lol

      The episode of _Black Scorpion_ that I remember the most was the episode titled *Love Burns* where Dave Mustaine of Megadeth guest stars as a character named Torchy Thompson, and my favorite line where he said *No thanks, I don't like freezing police, but I do like burning them* and then the guitar riff from *Hangar 18* starts playing when he is fighting Michelle as Darcy Walker. I also remember in that episode where they would also play the Megadeth song *Five Magics* in some scenes too.

    The plot point mentioned in First Wave where the protagonist has everything taken from him to measure his resilience sounds positively biblical in a Job sense.

    I really liked First Wave. A friend and I still have a running joke that if either of us do something out of character, we try to make the other eat some salt to prove we're not aliens.
    I also say "It's the sword that killed Lincoln" when I see a historical item on display anywhere.

    I loved the Darien Fox invisible man show! Such a good way to do the invisibility thing. They came up with a way for him to have close, to “see” and even have an invisible car at one point.

    • @CantankerousDave
      @CantankerousDave ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It was more of a “smart guy gets creative with powers” thing. Or that time he got whimsical while crazy on quicksilver and beat the living shit out of a mime.

    • @Russell_Crockett
      @Russell_Crockett ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I liked that they also reversed the trope of "If you're invisible, I can still see your body heat" by having him appear colder since all light is refracted around him.

      @stevenscott2136 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As I recall, the layer of quicksilver converted UV light into visible, so he could still see, although in weird colors. He could also see other quicksilver-coated things, for the same reason.

    One thing you forget to mention about The First Wave, is that the main character fights the alien invasion conspiracy, with the help of a manuscript that contains prophecies by Nostradamus, who somehow predicted the alien invasion plot back in the 16th century.
    This was during that phase in the late 90´s, when all these conspiracy theories & occult stuff was pretty popular in tv series ( X-Files, Millennium etc.)

First Wave and The Chronicle really look like shows that would have attracted me, but I totally missed out.

    I love this series of videos from you. I learn so much. I don't remember any of these outside of Black Scorpion. I was an event bigger comic book nerd than I am now. I'm also a Joan Severance fan and was a bit disappointed when she didn't return for the show.
    On a separate note: I'm still bugging on my personal UPN Mandela Effect. I can't believe that, as of now, The Strip and The Watcher were not only not on together on the same night, but now they weren't made within 3 years of one another. I distinctly remember that they were on the same night, back to back. 1995-96 season, Tuesday nights 8 and 9 pm, Eastern Time. Now they say that The Strip was never even on a Tuesday night... EVER. This bugs me. Vegas Night (both shows were shot in Sin City) now never happened. It's worrisome. I guess I should probably talk to @All Time about it. But it gets u def my skin.

    • @CantankerousDave
      @CantankerousDave ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Season 2 came out in DVD in the UK. I have copies, but the audio is pitch-shifted as a result, which is an artifact of the analog before-times of PAL and NTSC.
      I always loved the recurring gag of them being “the world’s only welfare-recipient intelligence agency.” They keep getting bounced around from sponsor to sponsor, from the Bureau of Weights and Measures to the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife. Totally random. The banter in the show between Fawkes and Hobbs - my favorite part of the show - was apparently largely ad-libbed.

    I LOVED Invisible Man. the weird buddy cop dynamic of Darien Fawkes and Bobby Hobbes was the best part of the show. the Agency was fun in that unlike most secret government agencies that have sick, superspy stuff, they were underfunded and their base looked like an abandoned middle school from the 1970s. I remember one episode they had to do a briefing scene, and for budget purposes they had to use ViewMasters, and Fawkes and Hobbes have an argument over who got the purple one. hilarious.
    i happen to have the First Wave, I-Man and Black Scorpion dvd sets when they briefly were available. I will point out that the First Wave dvds are the censored for US broadcast versions, cutting out the occasional bit of nudity from the original Canadian versions. Alas.

      most of the more popular shows are spread over other services, or were straight up acquired by others in company mergers or pick ups (amazon having both the expanse and stargate for example).
      it’s largely very early stuff, stuff that didn’t make it a season, or a lot of the (notoriously questionable in quality) movies that are languishing in a basement somewhere.
      not great in an archival sense, plus being posted on yt does mean there’s some interest, but probably not enough for most services to want to bother paying for it unless it get’s bundled in with something they do want

    I loved wacky Earth 2. I loved some of the uniquely concepts in the show. Also, the vehicles were off the hook. There was one big one that was built by...BMW, I think? Anyway, it's too bad the show didn't take off. 😕

      Yeah, but I think the reason was the kid. I hated that character and all that story arc about him. And maybe that mindset of absurd plot decisions by the characters, not asking the right questions, etc, to lengthen the show as much as possible. That often makes the audience to get bored. I liked the concept but the show was a wasted opportunity.

    • @CybershamanX
      @CybershamanX ปีที่แล้ว

      @The-Man-On-The-Mountain Indeed. There were a lot of good ideas and it seemed like they had trouble tying them all together. Yeah, the "miracle/special kid" thing was already overdone by that point. I always laughed at the part in the show's opening title sequence where he's supposed to be being pulled away in a dream sequence and he's slowly flailing his arms around while being pulled backwards through some mist by a platform he's standing on. It always made me laugh. Anyway, I liked the "doctor glove" device, the VR headsets, the teacher guy with the data glove (who, of course, had some terrible secret buried in the memory)... I can blab for hours about it, so I better stop. 😉

    I loved Sci-Fi Buzz. In a pre-internet age it exposed me to so much older sci-fi, fantasy and horror. It was how I discovered The Misfits, anime, and I could go on. Mike Jerrick was a fantastic host (tracked him down on Twitter for an autograph). On top of that we got weekly speeches/rants by Harlan Ellison. It really seemed that cast and crew loved covering genre entertainment unlike the sarcastic fake fan "journalist" of today.

    • @GoodBadFlicks

    The Black Scorpion tv series was pulled early on, then re-released on (if memory serves) Sci Fi. It piggy backed off a couple other Corman productions budget wise with the apartment set being built under the budget for Running Woman. It may well also be the final product ever completed at the Venice Beach studio as it was sold just after the series was wrapped. I worked on it for pre production and a few episodes. Initially Julie Strain was the lead until about a week before filming. As per the look of everything, we literally had no budget even on Corman standards.

    • @GoodBadFlicks
      @GoodBadFlicks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, for no budget (and I believe you) the show didn't look cheap. Low budget sure but not "no budget". I guess there was some serious stretching there. I did some a good bit of repurposed footage from other things Corman related. I wonder why Julie bailed. I thought it may have been because she was doing the Andy Sidaris films around the same time but I checked to see her last one there was years before this show.

    • @RobDobbs
      @RobDobbs ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GoodBadFlicksfrom what I recall she wanted more money. Wasn't going to happen as the budget was a strict lock. The scorpion mobile was built on a beater 80's green corvette. Think the budget was $5500 to complete by Greg Aronowitz who was promised to direct an episode or two to offset the budget. Was a great place to be yet terribly managed at the studio by those in charge. Not Roger or his people but those at the studio itself. Roger is awesome.

It got even more bonkers when they found out it was specifically taken from a female Sasquatch and was emitting mating pheromones which attracted a male Sasquatch, which ofcourse was Invisible the entire episode.
