I too love his playing! My professor was a pupil of Cortot for 9 years so in a way he is my musical grandfather! A beautiful cantabile line is difficult but always a goal.
Wo man heuzutage meint, man müsse ihn so eher "sachlich" spielen.
Searching hard for the sheet of this masterpiece. could never play it as deep as Cortot but still ! If anyone know where i can find this, thanks in advance !
imslp.org/wiki/Harpsichord_Concerto_No.5_in_F_minor,_BWV_1056_(Bach,_Johann_Sebastian) Look under "Arrangements and Transcriptions" and you can find Cortot's version there!
It is great piano playing. But Cortot misunderstands Bach by transporting him into the 19th century. Listen to the original strict pizzicati of the strings and compare them to Cortot‘s pedal drunken chords in the left hand. This is no longer the world of the Leipzig Thomaskantor but that of a Parisian salon filled with beautiful perfumed ladies. But I repeat: grand pianoplaying. Hard to understand that a man who produced such heavenly sounds was a collaborator of the Nazi regime of the Germans in Paris trying to eliminate his Jewish colleagues from the French musical scene. A crying shame.

What breathtaking cantabile!
We are so lucky to be able to listen to Cortot anytime we want. Too bad that nobody plays like that anymore
I can give you the secret you literally just have to play the right hand before the left hand

My favourite pianist of all time!

Beautiful ... wow and to think this was year I was born... love it even more!
Another Cortot fan born in 1948
Amazing and very rare performance!
I thought I knew Cortot's recordings pretty well, but I'd never heard this. A real jewel of a performance! Thanks!!
I am speechless!!..
Definitely as an artist, not so as a human being.
@@85_Inka If you're talking about the 2nd world war, you should do more research. His actions saved hundreds of jews etc.
@@85_InkaI think you should stay away from him if you are so worried.
clarté profondeur magnifique
Magnifique. On entend un paysage intérieur.
Probably the most beautiful thing I've ever heard.
What?! But you have surely heard the great "Horse Bach", haven't you? This cannot compare!
yes
I am still speechless!....
How about now?
If we could everything describe with words in music, we wouldn't need music anymore.
A rare beauty!
Cortot a monumental pianist. Not a serial recorder as many today
A photocopier to be more precise!
Absolutely beautiful! Such subtle rubato that makes that melody sing out and live. Every pianist should hear this.
Beautiful!
Une grande personalité !

Very beautiful.....
Stupendo davvero.
Wow, that's fantastic.

This piece has my soul…
Alfred Cortot,Dinu Lipatti,Clara Haskil were unique .
agree
Moi aussi
Cortot and sofronitski were magicians, out of this world. Lipatti was extraordinary.
Meraviglioso .

the weight of harmonic change bears the melody upwards, flowing like the white foam on dark wave
Truly beautiful...

Sublime!
You should go for his Schumann, Franck etc!
He makes it sound like a Brahms piece. Today that's not"done" but it's so beautyfull!

Disagree with the rubato. Does not bring anything to such a powerful and limpid music.
There is always Edwin Fischer’s reading from the 1930s.
