  • Gordon is one of the most famous chefs in the world, mainly for his swearing and 'I don't give a crap' attitude. Which makes it all the more hilarious when a super secret company accidentally revealed themselves, working in Gordons favour.

Maybe there are people that don't know all the background behind every topic. Theory: the stars are awarded based on how bad the roads are around the restaurant thus causing the tires to degrade faster driving up sales

    • @caniscerulean
      @caniscerulean 4 ปีที่แล้ว +134

      yes and no, if you notice the actual ratings, 1 star is a great example of it's type (most restaurants aren't even listed) 2 stars is worth a detour, and 3 stars is worth a special trip.
      The entire point of the Michelin Guide is to convince people to drive more so the tires wear out faster.

      A part of that, is because these fools pretend to be experts.
      Just look at Hell's Kitchen and many other of his shows. I remember a chef, a PROFESSIONAL chef, HIDING burnt food like a Toddler then lying about the time; and when Ramsay did find out cause he's not an idiot, he was of course, pissed.
      These people aren't just dealing with food, they're also handling the health of those who eat the food, as evidence when a customer on one of his show was hospitalized after a restaurant he was trying to help basically poisoned rotten lobster (you can find it on TH-cam.)
      Ramsay is the best. And while I don't feel like his family rules regarding his wife are right (he believes in as much distance as possible, which now that I think about it, I think he's getting or has gotten divorced.)

Either people who are professionals (and sell themselves as such), or people who are meant to be in charge and are harming others with their utter incompetence. MANY chefs in his shows have admitted a lack of credentials to him and he's done everything he can to help them because they weren't trying to pretend to be something they're not and often didn't even want to be in the situation they were in.

      Because if it was clear who is testing the food(by revealing themselves and their methods), all chefs that want a star will have their staff remember their faces and methods by heart and only really perform when they come to test them. The secret identity ensures that they will always provide their finest work in case the secret Michelin guest comes over. This takes it toll though, as most Michelin star restaurants either lose their star quite quickly again or they quit that restaurant and open another because the pressure is too high.
      The respect comes from the fact that most Michelin starred restaurant actually are some of the best restaurants in the world.

Usually the alternative is that either they don't care about their product, or they just take over.

    Most of the Michelin secret inspectors are well known by the restaurants and are recognized when they walk in even though they reserved under a different name. Besides that, in the Netherlands many of them are from Belgium so, whenever Belgian cars pull up restaurants get nervous. But the guide does not only grade on the food but, on the restaurant as a whole. Something I like more than the Michelin stars is the Michelin Bib Gourmand grade. This is a price/quality prize. They have to offer a "cheap" 3 course menu and average a la carte course prices have to be lower than a specific amount. BTW, ALL 2 and 3 Michelin star head chefs shout.
