    @Toy for Watts . We are interested about the '400' turbine with bigger magnets and larger wire, about which you said that it works better than the '500' turbine that had the smaller magnets and smaller wire and was not as productive. Will you tell us what is the name of the good one? ... where you bought it ? from which company is ? and how much was the total cost with delivery at your address with everything sent from China or from the online company from wherever it was sent to you three years ago ? And if you know the price is sold this year ? please !. Thank you.

    some of those stators are wound with aluminium wire, laquered to look like copper. The strange gap in the rotor magnets may be an attempt to prevent "cogging" to make starting in light winds easier.

    If you were to line up a Chinese manufacturer that you trusted to build a good cheap turbine like this and then resell them you could sell the heck out of them. Having seen your wind torture tests your endorsement and testing carries a lot of street cred. Have you considered lining up something with one of these manufacturers? Thanks for sharing.

    • @ToysforWatts

      I've tried reaching out to a few Chinese manufacturers and they are by and large not interested. They're often more expensive than iSta Breeze to boot. iSta Breeze has been eager to see their products tested and reviewed, I think they have a greater interest in seeing their products be successful. China is a weird mix of gambling, in my opinion...they're banking on shear volume to get enough sales to be successful, but are completely unwilling to work with anyone to demonstrate their products. Buying a Chinese turbine is a gamble in itself, and when the consumer gambles on the manufacturer's gamble, the consumer always loses.

    The magnets need to be much more evenly spaced on the larger rotor. A good way to tell if you have a good alternator, is to measure the DC resistance from leg to leg, and compare that with the voltage per 100 RPM of speed. Less resistance, more voltage at a given RPM = GOOD! Amperage is what heats up stator windings. Take the resistance reading from the stator windings, divide it by 1.7320508, (the square root of 3) then, multiply it by the rectified current squared, and that will tell you how many watts is being lost as heat within the stator. (P=IR^2)

      You want just the generator or a wind turbine? I'm a HUGE fan of iSta Breeze and they sell the bare generators on their site. You can get the i1000 or i1500 pretty cheap and they are proven machines, though they do require a pretty high RPM...which means good blades and mounted pretty high or, if you're using water, some pretty steep gearing. But you can even get the Heli 2.0 motor which is a low RPM 2kw rig for $700~ish (usd).

    Please also note one important difference that in the thinner rotor the first one you showed 12 magnets are all with same spacing but the second one or larger one has all the magnet spacing all the same except one space , looks like double space. You should measure and tell us if you please. I think this create an offset.

    • @ToysforWatts
      @ToysforWatts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's something I've found quite fascinating and it's made me wonder how important spacing is. This little 400 that actually works has that one large gap. My i1500 had a large, uneven gap on one side as well. Also the my i500 had one. All the rest of my Chinese turbines have had evenly spaced magnets. I can measure the gap this afternoon if you're really interested, but it's certainly there.

      They were both unbranded generic eBay purchases. It's one of the things about the cheap turbines that makes it more risky and difficult to know what you're getting...they all look the same, but they are not all made the same.

    • @ToysforWatts
      @ToysforWatts  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Unfortunately finding them on purpose is pretty tricky. With just about any small cheap turbine you have to actually hold it in your hand and look at the coils to know for certain. The reason why I don't test the cheap Chinese models much anymore is because the results are difficult to reproduce. Even same model numbers from the same vendor can be different on the inside. I generally suggest that people try to focus on known good brands like iSta Breeze.

  • @TimoHuttu
    @TimoHuttu 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Those loose ends of windings dosen't make much difference for power. More important is tight winding and insulation inside the metal layers.
    For life expand I recommend to tie and glue those loose ends because they vibrate and loose insulation.

      eBay. This is why I stopped playing so much with the little cheap Chinese turbines. They all look the same on the outside, but on the inside they can be wildly different. The little turbine that had the good stator wasn't in any significant way different on the outside from all the ones with the weak stators.

  • @Rock-With-Rick

    I have a cheap Chinese turbine, recently I noticed it acts like a brake is on even when it is unplugged from the controller. I checked to see if there was continuity between all 3 leads and there is, my question is should there be? I am about ready to pull it apart and see what I can discover, but maybe testing for continuity across the leads is not a way of determining anything. What do you think?

    • @sgroef6068
      @sgroef6068 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The other ends of these leads are supposed to be connected, so there should be continuity. Iron core stators (coils with iron in the center) always have a pulsing brake effect (also known as cogging) because the magnets are attracted to the iron cores.
