This 70-year-old Cape Town granny is no ordinary surfer!

- Bernie Shelly (70) first stepped onto a surfboard when she was just 19. Nearly 30 years and a hip replacement later, this grandmother of eight is still riding the waves.
Absolutely love this woman’s perspective. Who cares what people think-this seems to hold so many of us back from enjoying life and being able to test ourselves. Rock on lady❤

Looking at 70 in a few months... two surf boards in the barn five heart surgeries under my belt and ten good summers to go.

Yes! Just surfed for the first time at 50 and I'm so excited. Why did I wait? Doesn't matter because I finally did it!
I grew up in Hawai’i, and surfed most of my life. Then I got married, and worked, and the ocean just went by wayside. Like all of you, I turn 70 in a couple of months, and starting to train. So mahalo Mrs. Shelly for the inspiration. You go girl. 😊

@Edward Molina Jr I'm Peter Cole from SF, Santa Cruz ( Cowell's 1962), Bolinas and Pacifica and now Oceanside not the older Socal to Hawaiian Sunset charger from the 1940's - 50's to present day.

English observer: as a 75 year old ( reasonably healthy ) but stuck in a rut I was wondering if it’s pheasible to get back in the water after 50 years of not surfing, So…I searched for oldest surfer & this lovely lady appeared in my feed ! 🙏 Nuff said… here we go !! 🏄 Many thanks to the luvverly lady 😊

Hey Grannie: Just take "Curcurma with a little black pepper" daily, along with 2-3 tablespoons of coconut oil and none of those age related brain problems won't even happen - don't even have to worry about them! From a 76 year old Surfer retired in Mexico.
