    I am so glad I found you. I was going to finance a car, but after watching your videos, I decided not to be stupid. I bought a 2011 pegeout 107 for 5,215 euros CASH! I have nothing else to pay, but gas and taxes. It’s awesome. It is the cheapest car in my work’s parking lot, but hey who cares? I don’t! I am now saving to upgrade to a newer car in 3-4 years. Of course I will pay cash! Thanks Dave. I speak the truth.

      While your coworkers have car payments, you are stacking the cash that you aren't giving to a bank or finance company. Instead of paying interest on a car loan, you are earning interest on the money saved. Instead of stressing out wondering whether your bills are getting paid, you are living stress free knowing that you don't have to live paycheck to paycheck.

      I came to this conclusion myself, but I'm glad I found and started listening to Dave. My first car my dad gave me for free and was 20 years old. Had that for about 4 years. I just bought a slightly newer car (13 years old) for $5500 cash. Taking out a loan to finance a car is one of the stupidest things you can do with your money.

    Next week I'm having my 1-year anniversary of having bought my 5-year old low-mileage car (they exist!). Car + provincial taxes + new winter tires came out to about $12K. The dealer's financing dept. tried to sweet talk me, saying not spend all my money at once, to put down $7K and pay the rest every two weeks at a certain rate. No, thank you. Here's the FULL AMOUNT in a bank draft!

    I am 59 and I have zero debt. I do not own my home and I don't care. I do not want to be in debt to a bank for 20 years.
    I was so stupid when I was a young man, I would have multiple hire purchase payments going out every week for junk like tvs, video cameras, stereos etc.

    It is that simple. Ha, ha! Dave, So true! I bought my main car for $8800. It was a 1 year old Volkswagen Fox. I drove it for 20 years, over 400,000 km and sold it for $1,000. Best car I ever had, but my next car, a Subaru Forester, has over 150,000 km and is still running well. I plan to run it to 450 K again. Cars aren't a good investment, but good maintenance is.

    Thank you Dave for hardening my resolve to not buy a car on credit. Earlier on I used to finance my used cars but haven't had a car payment in over 15 Years at least, The last car I financed I kept for over 250,000 Miles by the time I got rid of it, the next car was an older and lower priced car that I paid cash for. My current car was purchased from a family friend and I paid him in full over the course of a Year. I've never owned a new car or any mid tier class car or higher, I was considering putting aside a down payment for my first brand new car purchase on credit as I have been doing a little better financially than I have in such a long time, then I started listening to your TH-cam videos and You talked the sense back into my head. I still hope to own a brand new car someday, but I'll wait until I can pay cash for it, however long it takes. I also remember what my late dad used to say; "a car is just a pile of plastic and metal at the end of the day" and "a used high end car is just an expensive used car".

    • @NicE-jq3wv
      @NicE-jq3wv 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Paul Costa my goal is to NEVER own a new car. I would never pay good money for something that is worth thousands less the second I drive it off the lot. I'll let someone else make that mistake for me and then buy it from them used.

    If you do your due research, one can get a really good used car for $5,000 or $6,000. If I were this guy Dave was ranting on, I would take the $6,500 and find a good used car for about four to five thousand dollars and pocket the rest. Anybody that didn't like my new used car doesn't have to go for a ride with me.

    I remember working with a guy who was paying off 5 personal loans he had taken out for all his previous car purchases ( he only owned one mind you). He just had to have that set of rims and performance chip, but when it was time to put tyres on his latest money pit, he had no choice but retreads because that’s all he could afford. My car is 17 years old and I’ve been debt free for 12 years. I like it that way.

    My wife and I had had better than average incomes. We bought used cars with cash and drove them for as long as they would hold together. No car payments for decades. Finally got a new car in 2017 (17,500 for an Impreza) paid it off really quick. Also stayed in our “starter home” and paid that off. Decisions like these enabled me to retire at 52.

    Lol 😂 this is hilarious I have this conversation with people daily handling totaled vehicles. People always complain that they can't replace their old car with the cash value of what their vehicle is worth ....no you just want a new one.

    A new car loses 40% of it's value the *second* you drive it off the lot. Never buy a new car. Never spend more than $18K on a car (that's the absolute high end of what you should spend on a car, preferably way less than that). Never buy a BMW or any other luxury car - they break down a lot and cost as much as double to service as a Toyota or similar worker-aunt car. Most importantly *if you can't buy it with cash, don't. The only point and purpose of a car is to get you from A to B and THAT'S IT.*

      @xtcmxm578 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I disagree Lexus is probably the only luxury brand ...that is reliable and not hard to work on ..so maintenance is not expensive....(after all it's a Toyota) ...owh yeah ...it retains its value (Because it's A TOYOTA )

    I live walking distance from everything I do weekly. I should go to church more often instead of watching it online. But that's about only thing I need transport, and that transport is called a bus. I choose to live where I don't need a car. The rent is higher but it's still cheaper than living in location where I would need a car when I take cost of transportation into account. And walking 15-20 minutes is for both me and my wife the best commute.

    One of my ex boyfriends makes $11.00 an hour and took out a car payment for $19,000 complained his mom wouldn’t help him with his car payment. I thought that was so stupid of him to take out a car payment and expect his mom to help him pay for the car payment for a car he couldn’t afford without a car payment and he’s 33 years old.

    Hahahahahah Dave keeps it real, We do live in a car culture! There’s an unrealistic car culture at the red light and the interstate that the car you drive make you look important, and rich it’s all a lie. I watch how people respond when I drive my 97 land cruiser vs the reactions when driving V12 big German sedans it’s funny But I’m no fool they both are use and paid in full cash money car titles in my desk.

    Have a friend who purchased a RAV4 a couple years ago that had all the bells and whistles he wanted including the color. He told me the other day he wanted to buy a new RAV4 because it has a better sound system and he’s going to be out an additional $10,000 that he will be giving to Toyota corporation. This friend has never invested in a retirement program. He’s 62 years old and plans on living on Social Security. He doesn’t like everything that Dave Ramsey says, and part of it is the man has never invested for his retirement. He’s made a good salary over the last 20 years that he could’ve easily had $750,000 in his retirement program today. But having a better sound system in a vehicle that he will very seldom drive is more important. The good news is, the car already sold. Since he works at home, it makes no sense to spend 10k on a portable sound system that he maybe drives for an hour or two a week.

    I can't remember having ever made a purchase, where the perception of other people entered into the equation, neither directly, nor abstractly. I suppose I'll never amount to anything in life, in the view of others, but that doesn't concern me either.

  • @1redrubberball

    If a person gets started early in life, not using financing and interest payments, as much as possible, they will not have the pleasure of later realizing how many years they had to work just to pay for others to let them get "stuff" early.
    Dave's advice is literally worth tens of thousands of dollars, perhaps even hundreds of thousands, to those who will take it!!!
