After shooting with Canon and Sony for years, being with Lumix is a breath of fresh air. These other companies typically don’t listen to their user base or take way too long releasing firmware updates. I’m excited about the hybrid zoom feature, the updated AF and the MP4 lite option! 🎉🎉
Dude, partial coverage. People are still using S1 and S1R and there are firmwares to them (surprisingly and nice). As well firmware to lenses. Would be nice to mention about it.... Thanks for the news and keep us updated!
No sorry, i'm not familar with that issue and i haven't see anything mention about that specifically. But there are bug fixes. You can download the firmware now and give it a try :)
The G100 has a self mode for a selfie when you swivel the screen towards you. I would like that feature (on my S9 and S5 ii). Thanks for the firmware news!
Just made me realize another year went by without any substantial updates for the original s5. I bought mine, just before the s5ii and x was announced I think and I don't see myself updating in the next 2 years still tbh. Would be really cool, if they would have shown some love for us s5 og's here. I mean I can see why, but still...
To be fair, S5 already received a number of firmware updates . Since it's running on the previous generation hardware, Lumix has probably done all the upgrades they realistically can do (technically and financially)
@@TheRealRichardWong That is true. But it is getting on my nerves, that people only complain with Lumix, although other brands do not make it better. No Nikon Z6 user or Sony user is complaining about lacking FW updates.
As usual great job, thank you. What we still need is internal BRAW and support for 32 bit floating when using the adapter, thank man, thankyou Richard, thank you!
@@Vladimiros68considering the S9 has phase detect in 1080 50p I think there is a very good chance although not mentioned that it may now be in the s5ii aswell
Thanks Richard! Very clearly explained as always. A question for LUMIX: will any ‘older’ cameras (G9, GH5Ii etc) ultimately be able to be upgraded so they can use the new App?
Panasonic deserve every penny of my money. They have ALWAYS supported their cameras with new features. The most notable was the latest firmware to my UNDER RATED Panasonic G9 mark 1. I always sing about Panasonic to my colleagues but no body cares, they just want Canon or Sony.
Have you solved the problem of auto focus video that freezes leaving the image not completely in focus and slightly out of focus? It happens in medium or long distance scenarios. It freezes, leaving the image out of focus. Sometimes it unlocks, other times it takes too long to do so and requires you to operate the AF button to position yourself correctly.
Thanks for the review on the firmware update Richard. I'm guessing the hybrid zoom isn't available on the M43 cameras as this feature really only works when cropping in on a full frame sensor to APS-C or a bit further as we can already do by switching modes from FF to APS-C or P2P however this feature eliminates the need to manually select which mode we want to use allowing us to seamlessly move between them all as we zoom in but it probably wouldn't work so well cropping in on such a small sensor as M43 which is already a crop sensor. Over all though I think this is great firmware update for all of these cameras.
The S5II has a problem with the focus of 1080 video. So now after the firmware upgrade, has the problem of focusing of 1080 video been solved? Can you test it? Let's see.
I think that's a hardware limitation. The S5II was their first ever camera with PDAF so they went safe with only offering PDAF on continuous pixel readout modes. So none of the line skipped modes (1080p 60fps+) were able to leverage PDAF. They fixed it in the S9 and I would assume it to no longer be a problem with their future cameras.
If it will work on Sigma 600mm with 2x teleadapter x3 hybrid zoom it supposed to be *3600mm* in full HD?............. (on the other hand you can record 4K and crop to FHD)
I haven't try that, but I don't see why not, it's just recording using a smaller sensor area so should be the same no matter what lens you use assuming it was already working previously. It could be a big challenge for the image stabilisation system, and the sharpness should suffer
it 100% works with Sigma lenses. The Fixed focal length lenses would use Crop Zoom, while zoom lenses would be able to use Hybrid zoom. There are no artificial limits on L mount lenses so you get full functionality within the lens companies design choices.
@@ryszardzokowski812 It’s a hardware limitation to have a crop in 4k 50fps it’s never been confirmed that it’s a hardware limitation that you lose phase detect in 1080p slow motion in full frame. @@jockturner1547 no it's not the same camera. They tweak or give different cpu or sensor. Lumix s9 has change sensor readout and now 100p has the same quality as 50p mode. Image quality is also different in terms of moire and aliasing. One of the biggest con of s5ii - moire is also fixed this way.

Even as a longtime Lumix shooter I find this very frustrating.
@TheRealRichardWong it looks like they are removing the RTP streaming over LAN? That is a shame. That was one of the features that differentiated and made the S5IIx worth the extra money. I really don't think they should be removing features...if security concerns exist, they should just pop up a warning and let the user choose, or enable activation through some other menu, and have it off by default. Removing a feature that is one of the selling points of getting the S5IIx over the S5II feels bad. I'm very excited about the other changes, but I really hope they revert the removal of RTP streaming.
