This is a nice looking vintage receiver. I had the exact same one many years ago. Good for a small bedroom or den with a pair of low power bookshelf speakers. With that being said it really is at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to vintage pieces. I found the bass to be muddy sounding and it was anemic in power when i needed it to push more power hungry speakers. I sold it quick once I started getting into better sounding, bigger vintage receivers with more power.

My thoughts on why these 1970’s receivers sound so good They were being made by companies that were interested in creating a machine that produced a sound that replicated live performance. There was a bit of a competition for which company could do a better job of it. Then profits took over. The companies shifted priorities from pure sound to create larger profits. The receivers were then being built with a cheaper materials and production methods in order to create more profits.

Not to mention the switch to digital parts on SMDs. As well as the weight decreasing, inevitably leading to more units for the same weight being loaded onto trucks, so gas prices go down when units weigh less…
