The 2011 Mavs swept Kobe and the Lakers, spoofed out Kevin Durant and the Thunder, and outclassed Lebron and the Miami Heat. Deserved to win the title!
Dirk - the pride of Germany. Tears in my eyes everytime I see him in these emotional moments. Through my last 2 visits to the US, I always brought up Dirk when I said I was from Germany. Everybody always responded with respect towards this man. No matter where I went
One of the greatest finals runs in recent history. How they completely dismantled the defending champion Lakers was a work of art. Then to take down James, Wade, Bosh, and the heat. It’s rare to have a team with one superstar make a run like this but it’s happened before. Dallas had one superstar, a tested veteran in Kidd, and a great sidekick in Terry. But the entire team was well rounded. Chandler, butler before he got hurt, Marion, Stevenson, Barea, etc. Dallas had one superstar, but the entire team as a whole were superstars. It takes a team. And Dallas proved that in 2011
OMG, uploaded 5 min ago. I was 24 back then in China, just started working for 2 years and kept paying attention to the whole Finals. Unforgetable memories! Go Mavs!
It's so good to see that NBA reposted this video. I watched this documentary at least once a year to make myself feel good. I like how this team works and it eventually paid off. Was rooting for LeBron to lose this because he's the villain in the NBA at that time but man we gotta talked about how this team dismantled Lakers, Thunder and Heat in a single postseason run. Dirk is that GUY!
The greatest Mavericks team of all time.. that roster was crazy deep full of shooters, defenders, leadership, playmaking everything.. they really underestimated them
Man, that series with the Lakers was tough to watch as a Lakers and Kobe fan. But kudos to this Mavs team, for me, this is one of the best playoff run in NBA history!
It wasnt just Dirk, Terry and Kidd who were the guys who didnt win a championship, it was literally the whole roster. Peja came up short in Sacramento, Marion came up short in Phoenix, Chandler came up short in Charlotte, Caron Butler was legitimately the second best player on the team when he got hurt and was out for the year. There was a LOT of hunger on this team before their careers were slammed shut. What a group of guys.
Mavericks fan since 06 when I started watching basketball. Was so happy Dirk & the Mavericks got their ring and payback for the 06 finals in the 2011 finals. #LetsGoBlue #MavericksAllDay
That team was unstoppable Dirk, Kidd with his comeback, jet Terry, unsung hero jj and Lance Stevenson, Tyson , and goofy shooting Marion and hurt Caron Butler showing heart trying to get back everyday even tho he had no chance they had lightning in a bottle
Have been a Dallas Mavericks fan since 2001, thanks to Steve Nash!!! I was so happy when they won the title and were vindicated against the Miami Heat. Never forget that!!!

This is the greatest championship in NBA history! You can't change my mind! I'm not even a Mavs fan, I'm just a basketball fan, and THIS is the greatest run to a chip in NBA history
I remember this run. This is a good what-if had they kept Tyson Chandler and JJ Barea in the off-season after but that was also the beginning of the salary cap where Dallas had forced to play under the luxury tax, which is one of the big reasons this team had to almost disbanded. Had runs in the playoffs but not the same until the arrival of Luka Doncic.
This was the greatest title run. Veterans eyeing for their very first trophy. The revenge arc of 2006. If not for the salary caps and this roster stayed, they couldve won back to back championships.
MAVS got through BRoy and Aldridge the “mavs killers”. Ended the Kobe/MJ discussion with both two threepeats a piece if the lakers won. Mavs swept them. Also stopping a potential Kobe V. Bron finals. Mavs we through a young hungry OKC with 3 future MVPs. This was a crazy run.
Mark Cuban after this championship rebuild immediately or i don't know what happened but their championship caliber team was turned to pieces... THIS MAY BE THE HARDEST RUN OF AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP...💪💥❤️
that was a magic run. i remember both games against okc and the heat when i turned off the game because mavs were down so big and next morning i see the mavs win the games...insane. amazing group of very good players led by 1 superstar. kidd, nowitzki, terry, chandler, the matrix...man these guys rly deserved the ring. edit: freakin peja stojakovic was also part of the team, how could i forget that, dude is a legend aswell. little bit sad they didnt keep the team together at least for one more year but well, mavs management :D one of the worst in the league so i guess we had to be happy with the 1 championship!
2011 was a proof that not always the best teams prevail but teams with the most determination, teams who suffered painful losses previous years. Kobe was no longer at his prime unlike in 2008 or 2009. He had begun declining during the 2009-2010 NBA season. You win against Dallas, you still lose against KD or against LBJ (like the 1988-89 LAL who were attempting a Three-Peat).
The current generation doesnt understand how insane dirks run with nothinf but old vets was in comparison to the whole NBA at the time, up untill lebron and the cavs it was the Greatest playoff run by any team
I cried when Dirk won this ring... as a Kobe and Lakers fan after he beat them I felt it in my gut that he was gonna finally do it and to beat that scam of a big three Lebron put together to do it was even more sweet.
God, if you love basketball you should LOVE the 2011 Mavs. What a cast of misfits & castoffs coming together to play ultimate team ball and were able to take down Goliath. And I just love the stories. Like Peja. Truly one of the NBA's sweetest shooters but was kind of a role player at that point in his career. But then he gets to have that moment against the Lakers and really helped the Mavs take care of business and get that championship. He deserves that ring. Or Kidd. Coming back to Dallas where his NBA career began. Having been the star of his NBA Finals teams but now taking a step out of the spotlight and just being the on-field general that the Mavs offense needed. And the irony of him returning to Dallas as a pretty solid 3pt shooter is pretty hilarious considering when he got into the NBA he couldn't make anything outside of like 15 feet....but shit, could he pass the ball. Tyson Chandler. His doctor, and also the Pelicans team doctor, advised the team to trade him because he was damaged goods and those knees were done with. But the Mavs took him and he balled the hell out for them. Shawn Marion. Once one of the faces of the NBA but got old and not as dynamic as he used to be. But he still brought that same Matrix hustle & effort on both sides of the court. And that's what Dallas needed....that guy who will do the dirty work, maybe only end up with 8-12 points but his defense, his hustle, resulting in like another dozen points. I could go on and on. JJ Barea, Brendan Haywood, Brian Cardinal, soooo many stories of overcoming the doubters and other challenges. JET was right, that team certainly had their personal stories that brought them to that special moment in time where they were Champions.
People always forget that the Mavs were the best team in the league for like half of the entire regular season when injuries weren't hurting them. People always say that the Mavs just got lucky and the Heat choked but don't remember that the Mavs were the best team in the league for a significant part of that year.
I'm almost 50 years old and this title remains one of the best stories in sports. Was so happy for Dirk back then.
Yeah well I'm 56
It's a shame LeBron topped it with his performance against the warriors a few years later lol
The Mavs knew they wanted revenge for losing 5 years before, and Dirk Nowitzki gave us one of the greatest playoff runs in NBA playoff history
Well said
Nah this was the GREATEST run

I still can't believe jason terry got the trophy tattoo'd on him before they won it.
I was at game 4 of the Lakers series. We called it the Mother's Day Massacre. The stadium was absolutely electric that day.

Great to watch live. Will always remember this series
When that Mavs team swept Kobe and the Lakers it just means no one can beat this Mavs team in a 7 game series.
MAkes it more funny watchin those clips of him doin pregame pep talks, only to be the one who meltsdown
Over powered Superteam where?? They had 3 players and a bunch of role players that's it
Everyone they played was in peak form too it was a sick run. They straight up shut Lebron down.. The West was fire in that era
That was Kobes second three peat run.
Kobes Peak.
This video is Amazing a repeat is coming!!
Tyson Chandler was a BEAST on that squad
Chandler and Marion were major contributers
When Caron went down, I overlooked them. Never thought they had a chance until they beat Portland.
That 15 lead by OKC 5 minutes into the game was a truly incredible comeback.
I don't know who I love more Dirk, Matrix, Terry or Kid
Never mind, Jason Cardinal was my favorite.
I remember watching this championship dvd, good memories.
Was there when Dirk was over 40 year old to score 40. What a night. My goat.
Butler was the Charles Haley of the Mavericks, he made them mentally tough❤
putting up a tattoo before winning is the most badass..
This and 2016 championships are the most impressive. Both were insane in how they won it and the talent they went through to get it.
This is one of those classic really respectable championship run Dirk really lead this team along with Kidd.

Great backstory - thanks for sharing

Best Run of All Time
Dirk was really all-time great this season
This 2011 NBA Finals series made Lebron the GOAT, who scored 8 points in game 4 and 11 total points in the 4th quarter of the whole series 😂😂😂
That “more like Dirk NO-WINski” sign was funny as hell tho
As a mavs fan i think losin to the GSW the year after was more painful than losing to Miami the year before
No
@@ultimateyagerman yes and shut up u not even in Dallas to be speaking
I agree but the finals was rigged
The greatest finals run in NBA history.
"this game made me the greatest player of all time..." you were right Lebron, here is when Lechoke was born.
when they stopped lebron from getting his first chip 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dirk was so determined in 2011 and he knew it is his only chance for revenge/championship. it didn't matter if it was LeBron/big 3 or Thanos
People always forget that the Mavs were the best team in the league for like half of the entire regular season when injuries weren't hurting them. People always say that the Mavs just got lucky and the Heat choked but don't remember that the Mavs were the best team in the league for a significant part of that year.
This is ridiculous. Way too many damn ads.
Can you imagine if Dirk had this team his during his first Finals run? Prime Kidd, prime Marion, prime Peja. Would have been RIDICULOUS!!
