Zen has a saying; "What comes in through the front gate is not family treasure." Look at what you've been letting into your life, even since before you can remember, you'll find most everything that is dictating your actions is stuff you never choose to let into your life. Yet, here it is deciding your every action, thought, desire, fear. Now, this implies that what you do, think, and who you think you are right now, are all dictated by things like what your parents, school and work-environment have shaped you into. Can you look into your mind and find a thought that you can honestly say is yours? Most people can't. If this scares you, good. It should. Of course, what I write isn't family treasure either, but it's junk that might wake you up to the other junk that's been collecting in your mansion. Only throw this out once you truly truly know who you are, only then will you not need it any more. Do you know who you are?
It's a great point you make here! It really forces you to ask that question, why with such limited time, we would spend it doing the same things and stagnating. You have to keep life exciting.
