How to Move Text ALONG A PATH in Camtasia 2023

  • A new feature in Camtasia 2023 is Motion Path, a visual effect that allows you to animate movement of an object along a path you create. The path you move your object can be smooth, as long as you like and the editing of the nodes can be adjusted with Bezier curves, so the animation is smooth, curvy, not just in a straight line like the classic animation in Camtasia.
In this tutorial I show you how the motion path effect words in Camtasia 2023 and also provide a nice practical example of what I would use this for to create a type of rollercoaster text, where the text moves along the path and every letter that follows the previous one changes direction to match the path.
A cute little effect you can use to create a customizable asset you can add to your library and reuse over and over.

I am still currently on 2022, but seeing this, I'll be upgrading soon. (i don't pay attention to updates until I see something new I want 😹)... BUT, as an animation hobbyist - I work with Blender3D and some vector tools - I seriously hope Camtasia steps up their game in catching up. There are SO MANY other tools out there that do this since years ago. I'm not dissing Camtasia, I love it and am sticking with it! 😻 It's just frustrating to have to do manually what in my opinion should have long since been available. But I AM glad they're working on it. 👍

Thank you Cristi ⭐️ I’m still getting the occasional crash on Windows, no rhyme or reason 🤷‍♀️

I think they are slowly working through the issues but I find it's much more stable on the Mac.

As a computer professional and itinerant programmer, I can safely point out that half the time it's probably Windows and not Camtasia by itself 😂
But jokes aside, what version of windows are you on? I'm using both 10 and 11 on separate systems and for me I find it's a bit more stable on 11 Pro...

I'm not happy with 2023 so far. It's crashing a lot on Windows but on Mac it kind of works ok. Still using 2022 for all 'serious' work. I hope it gets better soon. If you don't have the maintenance plan, I honestly don't think it's worth paying for the upgrade. Wait for 2024 maybe.

Nice! That is a fun use for lettering.

It is! I tried to achieve this before this effect and it was so tedious with all the linear animations

Cristi have you ever explored how to programmatically read text by camtasia? The more complex my videos get the more time consuming they become. And because camtasia does not have an API or anyway (I know of) to access external data, I might have abandon camtasia.
    Any hints or tips?

I thought about it. Camtasia’s project structure is JSON so technically you could generate a Camtasia project programmatically but it’s tedious as Techsmith hasn’t released a public documentation or anything. You could try generating a very simple project and then opening it in Notepad to see how it is organized and replicate that. Again, doable probably but time consuming and prone to error.
