- Today we are checking out an AMAZING Super World in Mario Maker 2 called "The Koopalings Strike Back" made by the brilliant AegisCook! This Super World does it's best to act as a sort of sequel to Super Mario World, meaning the levels are traditional and gradually pick up in challenge as your progress!

24:40 ish, I like the subtle touch of the doors behind the koopaling, explaining how he keeps appearing in different spots on the ship to shoot at you.
That 3rd koopa at the end that just popped up could be the super boss.
I guess these SMM worlds tie in with whosthisgit's idea that levels should be accessible. These are slightly challenging, without requiring super precise or advanced techs, much like official levels :)
This HAS to be a someone's rejected levels from Nintendo, these levels are fantastic! Esp the ghost house 🔥🔥🔥🔥

What I like to do with these super world playthroughs is get the code, immediately go and play the world, then come back and watch the DGR run.

I remember liking Yoshi’s Island as kid but when I replayed it when the snes mini came out, i didn’t enjoy it. Didn’t play past the 2nd world.

With that first airship level, it really felt like Dave forgot you can spinjump ladder in night airship, to ride a bomb up to that hidden area
This is funny because I just started making a super world that's supposed to be a SMW Sequel
This game should've been so much more as far as exposing aspiring designers but it took a left turn somewhere and the, "top levels," are flooded with garbage. What genuinely surprises me is the fact despite there being some amazing levels, not a single one of them has a genuine Nintendo feel. Maybe creators aren't that invested or maybe it's a testament to Nintendos impeccable design. I'm spending my days now, trying to study the side scrolling Marios to see if I can deliver. I feel like I'm somewhat there but I still have a lot to learn. If anyone wants to try one of my levels, lmk. Thanks.
Popular tab has always been whatever garbage kids love. We need more people playing and promoting traditional levels for them to stand a chance.
@@LemmySMM2 I agree there's a lot of filler but that's intentional for appeal purposes. But if you look, you'll see a number of authentic Nintendo made levels differing in difficulty and length with the nuances to actual full game levels. Maker 1 had a few more than 2, some that could have easily made an early to moderate stage level in a game. And if you ask me, even the fillers are levels above a lot of creators levels because of the things or intricacies that you can see or you don't.

@17:36 "tactical damage"😅 When I come across a hard purple 10 coin in Mario Wonder, my strategy is to get the coin while dying. I always call it a "tactical death" since it saves the coin after you die as long as you clear the level

I really liked all of those levels
This is the idea I had. Making my own Super Mario World game. But I am a complete perfectionist. I wouldn't place a galoomba in a castle, for example. Everything would have to feel like it was from Super Mario World, right down to the smallest details. Because of this, I don't think I can do it because of the lack of enemies. A castle wouldn't feel right without the Ball 'n' Chain. A ghost house wouldn't feel right without Eeries. The whole game wouldn't feel right without the Chargin' Chucks. And a water level without Rip Van Fish? I can't just use Koopas and Galoombas in every level, because it just wouldn't have all the fun and creativity of Super Mario World.
So instead, I'll have to make a game based off Super Mario Bros 3. I feel like it's much more possible to recreate the feel of that game with the limited stuff we have in Mario Maker 2.

Fun fact: Nintendo once made a SMW sequel called "SMW2: Yoshi's (new) island" for the DS. There was a "Yoshi's island" for the SNES however it was from a entirely different series and isn't relevant for this comment

You hate the original Yoshi's Island THAT much? Why do I get a feeling you never even played it before after hearing this?
Much like Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island has some of the BEST level design I have ever seen in any Mario 2D platformer I played, and I have played nearly all of them! That includes SMB, SMB2, SMB3, SMW, and the NSMB series. How could someone who loves 2D platforming hate such a well designed game so much and not even like it a little bit? Seriously, after playing both Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island, I can see why a big Mario platformer fan may prefer SMW over Yoshi's Island (even though I prefer Yoshi's Island over it for a lot of reasons). But straight up hating Yoshi's Island as if the game's quality was that low?
Is it the fact theres no powerups? No, Odyessy didnt have powerups either and you liked that one a lot. Is it the surprising difficulty and challenge you come across as you progress? No, then you would hate Super Mario World just as much. The little puzzles it features? No, else again you'd hate Super Mario World too. Is it the bigger story than typical? Nah, the game doesn't stop you from ignoring it like you enjoy doing.
Is it literally that Mario isnt the main character here? Because im seeing no other reason to hate it so much when you're a fan of Mario 2D platformers, and I remember you complaining about getting tired of Yoshi when playing SM64 DS the first time. Though I didn't think of it much since you admitted SM64 DS is still a very decent remake.
Whatever it is, it's honestly sad you're talking about such an incredible 2D platformer as if it were a bad game. Just like Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island features challenging yet really fun and interesting level design, numerous secrets to discover, bonus levels to unlock and fun boss fights.
It might surprise you how close Yoshi's Island is to the outstanding quality of Super Mario World, with its creativity and wonders, if you gave it an actual chance.
I can't say the same for the other Yoshi's Island games, but Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island is far above them. It continues to be surprisingly underrated for how good it is, but Im hoping more people get the chance to discover it in the future, in whatever methods they have to access SNES games. Yoshi's Island deserves far more love than what I'm seeing.
(And in case anyone was wondering, yes, I am perfectly fine with playing 2D platformers with different characters and mechanics, even though all my favorite games are Mario related. It's fun discovering something new and still enjoyable every once in a while.)
