my man, i was literally bored after playing it yesterday for 20 minutes after not touching the game for over 4 years, googled "why is Destiny so boring" and ended up here. It's definitely not you. If anything, it's a miracle that you and hundreds if not thousands of other people sticked it out for so long. I LOVE shooters. I LOVE games with loot, character and skill progression. I LOVE games with copious amounts of stuff to collect. I LOVE being able to play and/or switch between PvE AND PvP in a game. Destiny (1 and 2) basically should be the ideal game for me. But instead it somehow manages to be bad at all these things... well, except for the shooting itself, but this is simply not enough for any game without an engaging gameplay loop to keep anyone entertained, who is not in a coma or has left more than a handfull of functioning brain cells.
gear progression point is spot-on. I could take my loadout from season of arrivals and still do all the content in the game comfortably. There's really no motivation to farm new weapons or gear when they aren't that much better than what already exists. Not to mention there's nothing in the game that requires min/maxing gear which also kills the motivation to farm
there's no good outcome for bungie here because they'll either add the need to grind/farm, at which point you'll cry about the game being too grindy or too RNG-based or they'll keep things this way and you'll cry about having nothing to grind for it's a lose/lose
Some valid points fr. I have 1700 hours total with an even split across both pvp and pve. I’ve solo’d to ascendant and hit top 50 rumble this season using hc/sniper/shotty (inspired by ur vid) I’ve solo flawlessed all the dungeons and enjoy mechanics like sparrow flying etc. I have 50 hours in raids, and I’m willing to bet that the majority of that is due to me getting lw chests as a solo player. I’ve never played Kingsfall,Vog,Vow,RoN,GoS, DSC etc. All my experiences with lfg have been awful, people not knowing what to do or running awful loadouts and generally blaming anyone but themselves even though they have a massive skill issue. Raids consistently have the lowest population out of anything in the game, yes even gambit usually has more active players than raids. Loot is uninspiring, and for the vast majority of the game completely pointless. There’s always an ability spam build that makes gunplay irrelevant (provided you have the resources to make it) and like you mentioned 99% of content doesn’t constitute a challenge provided you’re set up correctly. Pvp sandbox is awful and they consistently mess things up and take months to put out the fires they start. Pk’s remain untouched as do bows, almost all new weapon archetypes they add are problems in the sandbox (glaives, bows) and the maps have been awful. Any semblance of skill gap is just being compressed over time, m&k movement receives repeated nerfs whilst not being an issue at all. The high end pvp community is toxic af, I’m literally unable to find a decent clan or fireteam as my lifetime flawless’s and k/d just isn’t good enough. Who cares that seasonally I’m a 2.6 whilst using a morality loadout as a solo player and often with 5x less time invested than other players at my skill level ? Clearly I am below average, and because of sbmm sometimes it feels like I am. Then there’s the rampant xim usage from (controller players) which is a whole other issue. I want things to do, I want there to be something I can do without putting myself at the mercy of randoms. Even just a horde mode as a solo player would be cool if there was a ranking system. I’ve barely touched the game in the last month and a half and I’m just glad that comparatively I don’t have THAT much time invested at this point.
My input as a 2000 hour medium skill solo console player: even at lower skill levels pvp is a nightmare since sbmm, and even to my low skill level friends sbmm has barely helped and no new player wants to touch pvp. also trials is terrible, it doesn't feel at all down to skill, i just need to catch the right times where worse players are on and at this point i can tell you if i will be able to go flawless based on the time alone (at 6 in the morning i can go flawless 2 times in a row, at 6 in the afternoon i'd be lucky to win one game), and going flawless in a fireteam is just impossible for me on the pve side, despite having less than half the hours of you, i have still reached the same point as you in terms of content difficulty, although i would like to say that there isn't much bungie can do really imo. ive been taking two of my friends through the game and it took about 300 hours before they knew enough to make what could be called a build. for bungie, content needs to be accessible, and making difficult solo content makes them no more money as much as i'd love and them to very good video you've earned a sub
The point was more that I'd like there to be other options on the difficulty of a raid, but for solo players or play sessions at odd times when people aren't on.
I understood what he was saying, If I want to run a Master Raid (or whatever its called I don't play this shit anymore) I would have to round up 5 of my buddies at the same skill lvl as me or better, or have to find random individuals who may not be very nice in order to do it. His point was the most alluring parts of the game are gatekept by fireteam activities.
Meh. I have over 8,000 hours in D2 alone and my issue now is that I don't care about anything anymore. I don't care if I had to start over again with a blank slate if it meant we got D3 with a new, modern game engine and a network with dedicated servers.
I started a discord for solo players like myself with the highlight being no kwtd or toxicity so I haven't been solo since July as it kind of took off but I've done almost every team activity now so much the only time I get excited to play is when a new person comes in and i can teach them a raid.
I took a year long break and got FOMO'd to hell with so much stuff but I after completely disengaging with the game when I came back I was having a lot of fun despite hating the nature of the game (it being a looter shooter) but now that I come back everything feels fresh and I don't mind the looter shooter aspect as much
I'm not the best at d2 and I don't feel like putting in the time to reach top 100 or anything like that, but I really really hate being gatekept out of raids and dungeons because I can't find a fireteam to do it. I just want to be able to sit down and do something stimulating by myself instead of being forced to play with other people. It doesn't make me want to play the game more, it just makes me frustrated with the already limited content we have available
Kinda hard disagree with you about fusion rifles, it might’ve been the case in the past but definitely not now. And hand cannons being unable to complete with autos take just isn’t true, even during one of the most oppressive auto metas hand cannons still had a place
Id say everything mentioned is spot on as it is. Unless you mention the trials full team matchmaking. I think it's very debatable whether is a good or a bad thing, while you cannot get the good out of it from both perspectives. For a solo player it is clutch not having to deal with people that are just not into PvP in trials and being matchmade to multiple carries full teams every other match. If you wanna carry i think its pretty doable duoq aswell, and honestly being it hard full squad mm thats what carries are.
We need average casual player content creators to show how unfun D2 really is to the majority of Bungie's (should be) target consumers. ''D2 is dead' content is financially MUCH worse than 'D2 is too easy for me' content.
