I think it was confirmed in the databook that Muzan was particularly fond of Rui and liked him the most out of the Lower Ranks. So when he found out he was gone, he decided to fire the others. And moonwalk all over their graves.
Fun fact: Rui by himself was actually strong enough to probably become and Upper rank demon or at least Lower One, but he insisted on sharing his power between his family and Muzan allowed it since he liked Rui quite a bit because of his twisted ideals.
Theres speculation that muzan in a weird twisted way, felt sympathy for rui bc [SPOILER ALERT] Muzan actually has a slightly similar backstory from before he was a demon

Just to reconfirm how Kanao's (or Little Miss K :P) name is pronounced, rewatch 13:53 the moment he runs over with the coin on his hand and says "Ready Kanao?", he says her name very clearly there. The 'A' isn't silent it's just blended together with the 'o' into 1 syllable. Like 'Can-now' (the emphasis is on the 'can' part of the name)
Im not Japanese but that doesn't sound right. Kanao has 3 syllables and im pretty sure Tanjiro says her name with all syllables present. I read her name as "Kah-nah-oh" with all vowel sounds being short. Hope this helps

Previously there was a foreshadowing about Kanou. The sisters gave her the coin and told her that a boy will someday come into her life and will change everything for her. Sure enough Tanjiro and admitting to his intentions on giving her heart a chance is what changed everything for her. Absolutely love and hope this will be a thing in the future.
Muzan offing most of the lower moons was most likely done to better showcase the power scale on this show which is frightening, to say the least. Muzan would be considered the most OP demon in this universe and could easily overpower any of the ones in the lower or upper moons. I think it’s also worth mentioning, if you don’t know already, that the lower moons are always changing because the hashira have always managed to kill some of them off. The upper moons, however, have been unchanged since they were first put into power all those centuries ago and have killed many hashira since. This should give you a good idea of how powerful they all are.
@Johnithinuioian I mean two birds with one stone, am I right? 😂 But yeah, they possibly could have explained a little more behind these characters and made it really interesting, but if not explaining their backstories mean that we’re able to get more background on the upper moons and each of the hashira, I personally am 100% okay with that. Also consider the fact that, as I mentioned, the lower moons are always changing. Meaning those characters aren’t as pivotal as the upper moons who have literally always been around since the beginning.

You'll notice there's a parallel between muzan and the demon slayer master, especially when they both bring their finger to their lips to keep people quiet. The hashiras do it out of fervent respect while the demons do it bc of fear

What I find to be helpful when pronouncing japanese names is to pronounce each vowel with the sound as it was initially taught. So the vowels are always pronounce like: A = ah E = eh I = ee O = Oh (not Ow but say it as if you're saying the letter H) U = oo So for Kanao it's Kah- Nah- Oh- Sometimes vowels disappear when stuff is pronounced fast so mitsuki will end up being mitski but saying all the vowels when talking slow is fine.
you really gotta give props to the studio Ufotable cause they have a caliber that goes beyond other studios and i would say at least 50% of the credit should be applauded towards Ufotable
