Hi Paul! Again an awesome video topic!
We also did an experiment in the class room, where we found that pitch also plays an important role.
With pitch of 1mm, 8 elements can be good enough if not the best option but when pitch is 0.59 or so, it is better to have minimum of 12 elements.
Then there is effective aperture as well to consider!
    Thanks!

100% yeah! You can buy 2.25L8 in the A10 size but I think the pitch is 1.2mm. So instead of the tiny 4.8mm aperture you'd get with the 5MHz, you get back to 9.6mm so it would give much better results with 8 elements. But then with that one there's no way you could use just the upper 4 elements. Yikes that would be messy! :)

    Hi Paul,
Your videos are very helpful. I am new to the weld inspections with PAUT.
I am using a Sonatest Prisma with the upper 16e of a 64e 5MHz sonatest probe.
I am considering selling this probe and buying a 16e probe. My question is does it worth the trouble or I can do my job with the 64e probe.

It probably won't make much difference to be honest. You can use the built-in beam visualizer on the Prisma to see if you can get a 16-element probe closer to the weld than just using the upper 16 of a 64-element.

@@hollowayndtengineeringinc.5201 I’ve used beamtool and to be honest with the 64e probe I could get closer than with the 16e. Do I lose anything by using only the 1/4 of the elements?

Sir can you please perform this same test on a notched pipe or any calibration notch and discuss the results ..please sir
    Or
