My favorite tool is the narrator with his sense of humor, knowledge base, total honesty, and genuine passion for doing the most perfect job he can do. Without that I probably wouldn't watch a woodworking video, as I'm an artist not a woodworker, it was the narrator that inspired me to get back to painting, which I haven't done since everything I owned was stolen in 2017, and today I have boxes of art supplies being delivered, and am so excited to get back to work (on a much smaller scale, but I'll be creating again and not just watching the months on the calendar go by.) Favorite tool is probably my garage Beer Fridge (no really! I love that thing!) My comment is actually about your talking. I LIKE IT. I don't tune into channels to listen to saws and squeals from tools. I tune in to get your perspective and instructions. Let the haters hate. Keep up the instruction and talking. Easily one of my top 3 wood working channels, great work !

Yes, Cam please don't stop talking being new to this hobby I know I need a lot of instruction. I try to watch people online before I attack anything (and I currently because of my skill level man that literally) that provide instructions and opinions through their videos and blog. I am currently making a 1' x 2' four leg table with out any drawer. I found a small piece of reclaimed barn siding scrap that I am using for the top and know that without your video tutelage my attempt at this would not be possible. Thanks for your videos and blog, while talking through them with instructions and opinions.

Cam, my favorite tool in my shop is my late 1880's Frank H. Clement 12" jointer. 1,000# of buttery smooth cast iron beauty!
I wholly agree with your list. I own all that you listed and would say they're the minimum for a production shop. I'm a 30+ year hobbyist making the jump to selling tables.

I have an old 8 inch long bed Rockwell jointer that I bought from a small town high school shop class. With a little luck and a lot of sweat I finished the restoration and it works like a champ. Until you have a jointer you really don't know how much frustration and time you save yourself. By far this is my favorite tool. Keep up the great videos you have helped me improve my skills. So thank you.

My favorite tool is my Festool TS 75. In a small garage breaking down plywood can be tricky. This makes it super fast. To go with that the TSO GRS-16 PE Parallel Edge Guide Rail Square makes accurate square cuts on panels a breeze. Also the Portamate Centipede gives you worksurface to cut on that then collapses down into a bag. I am currently in a small garage so space is important but I am planning on moving into a bigger shop in the next year and your video was excellent for helping me start my wish list for the new larger shop with lots of floorspace and lots of power. My favorite tool is now my new Woodpecker Slab leveling Jig. Can’t imagine working without it and would never go back to the old homemade ones I used in the past.
I’ve been working on a number projects (both clear and black epoxy) and your videos have both inspired me and helped me to build confidence. I wanted to pay it forward with a quick tip I am now leveraging with my black epoxy tables.
Often times I encounter deep wormholes or voids that don’t quite protrude to the other side, but are super deep. In the past, I would fill these with a deep pour epoxy and wait the requisite 2-3 days to do my final pour.
The other day I decided to try to just “cap” the hole with my hot glue gun using A black hot glue stick before the pour and wadda ya know! No air bubbles, perfect pour, 3 days saved, and a good bit of epoxy saved. Obviously this wont help to fill voids that are shallow or those that need structural support, but there are a number of slabs where I can see this coming in handy to save some time. Time is money!
Not sure if this will help you in your workflow, or if you think there are any long terms negative impacts to this approach, but you have been super helpful along my journey and I wanted to give back a little.

SawStop is may fav! runner-ups are the new 13" DeWalt contractor planner which makes an incredibly smooth finish! Definitely can't leave out the 14" Rockwell bandsaw I bought with extension block 30 years ago, still running perfect and now has a new Kreg fence. My most quick stop tool for squaring up is the 6" Powermatic jointer!!! All make most things possible, Yay!
Bandsaw is my favorite . Just by changing blades can be used for metal or wood. I am just starting to gather tools on a budget so thanks for the blog showing options.

My favorite tool is probably my table saw and jigs. I like your shop. I spent years in the Navy and have learned how to work in small spaces. My shop is 12’ x 24’ no big projects but all the tools you listed plus.
My orbital sander is my favourite tool so far, I love the feel of the finish once I’ve gone through the different sanding discs.
I agree Cam, the table saw is the heart of any shop. However, with my current project focus, I’m using my bandsaw, drill press and lathe more. Another super video, Thanks. Bill

I just would like you to know that I really enjoy your videos. Thanks! I think I would say, after having all of your “top ten” the most important thing after that is jigs and carriages, sleds etc etc. standardizing processes helps speed things along!

At first I didn't really liked your voice overs, as I prefer the sound of woodworking. But then I came to know you, the time you spend replying, with that majestic look you have, such an angelic human being. Then there is that epoxy/resin part, gosh, till date I thought, that maybe somebody might have gotta great idea, to cut a glass or stone & somehow, through robotic arms, have inserted that into the table, lol. You have changed my outlook. Just have one word Thank You!

My favorite tool and my only wood working tool is my circular saw. I just wanted to say that I like the fact that you talk throughout the video. My favorite tool is my miter saw, but only because my table saw is not as good as yours , and yes has a lot adjustments but precision is not its forte. I think it's really nice how you show talk over the footage , you explain the stuff really good . Your channel is really an inspiration, building my first resin river table these days, couldn't have done it without your videos. Thank you very much!

My favourite tool - Festool RO 150 FEQ. Bought it about 10 years ago when refinishing oak floors in 4 bedrooms, a landing and stairs. It is ridiculously expensive but I don't think any other off-the-shelf sander would have stood up to the work I have put it through over the years. It actually paid for itself refinishing the floors. This tool is a beast and gentle at the same time. I recently used it to finish a beautiful 48" diameter dining room table built out of white ash.
On my wish list? A set of Blue Spruce chisels. I can only hope they are as good as I hear they are.

Currently my favorite tool is my Bosch 1617EVSPK. I am just starting my shop, mostly hobby stuff and making some accessories for friends. I do have my first CNC coming, the Onefinity Woodworker. I should have it come November.
I have to agree with others, I can watch a ton of channels that no one talks, they dub in music that puts me to sleep. I want to hear the advice of the craftsmen (it is what has gotten me back into woodworking!!) and learning from their experiences.

In the process of setting up my home woodworking shop, your advice and breakdown for beginners is so valuable and helpful, I have just purchased a tablesaw, bandsaw, bosch pro orbital sander and 2.25hp router which I plan to use quite a bit for flattening as I cant quite afford a planer just yet. Just need to get some plans for tablesaw jigs which I saw your post referring to a link for that, and a sled for the router. Starting a clock project with a chunk of Mopani hardwood soon, so the router is going to get some action!

Number one tool, same as you, no doubt, SAWSTOP! I have tripped the cartridge twice in 10 years. Still in awe about how fast that blade drops. I’m a turner, so the bandsaw is essential. I have a 17” Jet.

I do have to apologize, though - I sent a lengthy email recently requesting a video like this and claimed to have watched most of your videos. My favorite tool is my bandsaw, I have the Laguna 14/12. I wish I had the bx as you do, but I was pushing my budget at the time anyway. The tool is just fantastic to use, and try using the bow products resaw featherboard. It helps make the cuts go smoother, and it frees up a hand for other funtions.

You're doing something wrong then. You should NEVER be in a position where a machine has to step in to save your fingers being amputated. Give up woodworking if you keep coming so close to disaster because you will not have all your fingers for long

Favorite tool is my sander but I think it's because we spend so much time together. Love the video. Wish I would have saw before I purchased by bosch router. I have the exact same issue. And the stationary base is impossible to adjust as well. Live and learn.

SawStop 3hp Pro Cabinet saw...hands down. I’m tracking with you on the other tools. I got the Bosch 10” mitre saw, love it too. Probably my #2 most used machine. I love my little Dewalt planer....silky smooth cuts. My BIG buy was my PowerTec 3hp 8” helical jointer. Lots of butcher block countertops coming up for the Airstream!

Really enjoyed the video, and hearing the progress on some of your tool selections. Right now, my favorite shop tool is my 14” lathe. I’m pushing with 3 different grinds on my bowl gouges right now, which is an expansion from the typical traditional.
I thought the choice of Troll this week was hysterical. Just goes to show there is no accounting for some things in life.

Hi Cam, fav tool, is a tough question, like you I have the sawstop table saw, the Laguna bandsaw, but I went with the Felder hammer A3-41 jointer planer combo, and that is pretty sweet ( my newest after years with 6” jointer) . I love the videos with commentary, informative and I learn a lot. The non talking one was awesome as well, reminded me of “my mechanics “ videos. So do both when you can and want to. Stay healthy!

My Bosch table saw has been pretty good to me, it’s almost toast it doesn’t stay in my work shop but it’s been a very reliable tool, love your videos and your work!

Favorite tool is whatever is really, really sharp! At the moment and the current project, it's my 1/2" chisel. Old and unknown, but somehow it's just lovely to use. As others have said, please talk about what you are doing and why and what you are thinking and your design decisions. Thanks.

My favourite tool is music... I love to get inspired by the music. It make working so much more fun. Great video. I just wish that I had the room for a proper shop. I currently use a trolley out under the pergola and run mostly cordless gear. My next purchase will be a table saw. It will be cheap, but that is what I need to make my first dollars so that I can buy a better one. Keep up the good work.

We used to watch strong man comps and log cutting used to always say "Less talk talk, more chop chop!" Not that I don't mind your videos and you talking seems fine to me and quite helpful in all the videos so keep it up!
Tool I like the most is my skill saw mostly because I can do a bunch with it. However I would love to get a large shop with more tools. Looking at some land now to hopefully build a really nice shop on.

My favourite tool is... My festool rotex sander. I sound boring with that haha. But I saw it on your videos and wow what a difference! Its made sanding fun! The only thing I think I'd like to see more of is some metallic resins. Love your stuff watch it everyday 🤙🤙🤙

Not totally necessary. But nice.
Honestly, you could probably get away with a good jointer (Unless you 100% only do solid slab tables then you wouldn't need to joint anything) a good circular saw, maybe a belt sander and a good orbital sander. That's pretty much all you need to make a basic table.

My favorite tool is Fluke 117 multimeter. Really love watching your videos you inspired me to start woodworking! Hope for maybe a future video you can talk about price, estimating, or seeing if products you make have a positive cashflow return on them. My table saw, the backbone of my shop. However, I’ve always appreciated my biscuit cutter which I recently added a Domino 700 - holy-smokes is that a great tool!

Thank you for your insight. My grandfather told me in the '60s to "buy the best tools that you can afford". This doesn't have to be the most expensive, but the best for your situation. Too many people equate cost equals quality.

It is hard to say wich is my favourite. Every tool has its purpose. I can say I really like working with bandsaw and I couldn't live without a router. Those are two necessary tools for guitar building. But I don't own the tabelsaw. My workshop is just too small. I sometimes miss it but it is possible to make a guitar without it. Favorite tool? All the ones I don't have yet. I think the router is under-rated. It can do so much with the right jigs. With a good router and the right jig you won't need a planer. And no, your talking doesn't bother me one bit. It shows me your thought process which is valuable info. Great video, Cam.

My number one favorite tool that i have so far (which is one of your least favorite tools) is my Bosch Axial Glide miter saw.
I kind of like how much you talk. Its nice how in depth you go when talking about your builds.
