  • This video puts a P&C Cattle Pen Longhorn Cage on display. Working longhorn cattle obviously offers a different set of obstacles due to dealing with their horns. A typical head gate can only be used on smaller horned cattle. Without a proper set up you risk injuring your cattle. This longhorn cage was designed specially for working horned cattle but can easily be used on cattle without horns. Follow along as we run several weening bull calves through the cage detailing our process.

I have been debating getting a bull to breed my cattle, I'm curious how y'all go about keeping your bull from in breeding. Would y'all be able to make a video about how you keep your bull from doing that?

Yes I could post a discussion on the topic. I prefer having bulls to cover our cattle over AI. AI has benefits such as being able to pick and choose genetics and so forth but there is an expense and also issues to conception rates. My ranch is broken into several paddocks which I rotate cattle. We have two herd sires. They each have their own group of cows. Our senior herd sire has his specific group of ladies that he is allowed to breed. His daughters are removed at weening and once are at breeding age are moved in with our junior herd sire. In order to avoid inbreeding we move his daughters as replacement heifers for other ranches or occasionally replace genetics by selling our junior bull and obtaining another. I went through that process last fall. Our junior bull had worked himself out of a job. I sold him to another ranch for them to use as a breeder and brought in new genetics from a bull unrelated I purchased out of Ohio.
