I am so glad, TH-cam recommended your channel. Wow, it is so cool to have found a Dominican booktuber! (I am Dominican-American). Adding a bunch of these to my tbr! Great, video!!! Looking forward to watching your older content and new :)
I'm so glad to have found your channel! I read a lot in Spanish (and have also just begun reading in Portuguese), and I'm always looking for things, that like you said, are not from the 'big names' or the same few countries. Just bought a few of your recommendations! I was also hoping to get to a Machado de Assis book this year, but the one I have is Bras Cubas. One note - Tituba is a key figure in the Salem witch trials - she was the first person accused of witchcraft, though escaped being killed (the Salem witches were all hanged, not drowned or burned, except for one person who was crushed by rocks). I was suprised when you said she wasn't in Miller's play (which I've never read or watched), so I checked, and she is. Of course, I'm sure the story moves on super-quickly after she's sent off to prison for the rest of the story...
Thanks so much Erin!! Which books did you end up getting? And oh my, looks like I might need to revisit The Crucible lol, I think the last time I read it was in high school some 15 years ago 😬Sometimes I say things and when I'm editing back I think "what were you thinking!?"--yes you're absolutely right, "witches" were hanged not drowned. I really appreciate the clarification and would love to hear your thoughts on Bras Cubas when you get to it.
@shelf-reflections Hi! I ordered Madama Sui, Invisible, and El tramo final. I'm doing a read-around-the-world project, and am always on the lookout for more interesting books from countries with globally less well-known literature. Lol, I still have never gotten to the Crucible, but I live near Salem, so the details of the witch trials are seared in my brain. 🧙
I’m glad I came across your channel. I haven’t read many Latin American authors but interested and this video gives me somewhere to start.

I also want to read Sangre en el ojo this year! I’m also interested in Zona Ciega, her nonfiction account of this same story
Are you planning on filming any updates? I would love to have your thoughts on these books after reading them. I never heard of these authors
Hi Ralphie! Yes definitely, I'll be including my review of each book in the corresponding month's wrap-up video :)
