On priming the oil filter. On a horizontally mounted oil filter, you can't get enough oil into the filter to make a difference without spilling most of it back out due to gravity. There's enough residual oil on the cylinders and crankshaft bearings to do the job until oil pressure builds up. Just don'tr race the engine, let it idle until pressure is normal.
@@Maritimer I took another look at your video. Starting at 5:08, when you removed the oil filter, I didn't see much oil drain into the pan (unless it went over your skid plate). So, it seems to me that every time you start your engine, it's starting with an empty oil filter anyway. After all these y ears, your ride seems to be operating a-okay. My ride is due for an oil change. Gotta get it done by the end of this month.
My 2008 Arctic Cat 650 TRV oil filter screws on like at a 45* degree angle, also I believe my 2005 Suzuki Eiger 400 is similar to the same angle. No way I could fill those with oil without a mess, now my Dodge Cummins truck I always pre fill the oil filter with oil since it screws on vertically.
I agree with another comment on the oil filter orientation. But the one minute that it takes to prime the filter is worth the peace of mind to me. Great video, I enjoy the bits of fun you add to them 🍻
Another great video. I am new to the ATV scene but these videos give me a much better understanding of general maintenance. Well done and much appreciated.
Yeah we fill the the filters. Great job! Maybe right down in your garage the kms. In case its lost on your bike but perfect I would say. Great idea using Trip setting.
Hey buddy ! yeah I figured it might help some ppl out, and nice to get some content on the channel, with all this cold weather haha too cold for riding lol
Just want to say thank you , I have the same bike but never did the oil change. This will save me time. You might not be a mechanic but you explained very well and very simply. Best regards .Also very nice to have Canadian explanation save a lot a conversion
Hey ! well thank you for checking out my video, I'm glad it could help ya ! I'm not one for talking too much or making a short conversation long... haha keep it short and simple. thanks again !
I run 5-30 Yamalube for cold weather. My 708 takes 72 ounces to top of hash mark . Prime filter , add 2 quarts let run a couple minutes through machine . Keep adding remaining oil to proper level . My dealer does oil changes this way , and it works for me . Good vid !
drive that quad up on 4 blocks of 6x6 makes life a lot easier. no need to prime the filter enough oil in the engine for start up... . my opinion....my 09 grizzly has 23000kms never primed a filter yet.. oil change every 1K kms diffs get changed too. mechanic 40 years but hey you are doing a thorough job.
Hey Brian ! I wanted to try priming the filter, and I have the 708 and you have the trusty 686cc motor, I've heard some stories of blue smoke after an oil change on the new bikes, and figured the prime would help against that. But you are probably right and with 40 years experience who am I to argue haha my background is Electronics and Electrical lol You've racked up some KLM on your machine !!! haha thats awesome ! my buddy Adam has a 2015 with almost 16,000klm on it already haha (He's also a Mechanic) thanks for the nice words though, always nice to get feedback and if a Mechanic says i'm doing good, then I must be doing something right haha
got on on the lake for the first time this winter; had fun getting to trails I do not get to the rest of the year; last two years only had one week of ice driving each year; Eastern Nova Scotia
Hey !! Nice to see a fellow maritimer ! Where in NS are you? yeah the winters on the Eastern Shore, aren't what they used to be, you guys get cold temps, everything freezes up, then you'll get +5 and rain haha hard to get some good ice that way.... be careful on those lakes, young guy from Lake Charlotte (Close to my hometown) just lost his life by falling through an open spot on the lake... I didn't know him personally but I have a bunch of friends who knew him, I guess he was a really really good guy.
Great video only thing i could sudjest if u do another one you might want to mention to tell people to check the mating surface of were the oil filter rest a gainst is clean an that the old seal isnt still there cause you dont want to double seal it youll leak oil like crazzy an make sure people replace the crush washer on the drain plug.
Hey ! yeah I love that song !! Buddy Washisname - "the Shed" they are a band from Newfoundland CAN. yeah she started really well, it was sitting for a while and it's been pretty cold lately. You're in Caledon Ontario?
Great video !! I just bought a2017 grizz and have to do the oil for peace of mind , one extra step I take is to pop the filter gasket and oil both sides of it . Anyway great job cheers from the south shore
Hey ! congrats on the new bike ! always good to change the oil and fluids, just for that piece of mind. I've never heard of oiling both sides of that gasket, it makes sense but you'd have to be careful not to damage it eh? thanks for the tips, I appreciate it !
Excellent video.... Thanks! I'm no expert, but the only way I see "priming the oil filter" being of value is it the filter were mounted in the vertical direction. Since the Grizzly 700's is mounted horizontally... I think any oil put into the filter will run out once you tip it on it's side to install it. I did an oil change on my 2007 Grizzly 700 yesterday. My oil filter is stuck on. Going to have to use a bigger wrench the next time I change the oil.
Hey Mark ! glad you liked the video ! you could be right, im no mechanic, I just wanted to try it, I normally dont do that. that sucks ! in this video I had a hell of a time to get my oil filter off.... I wasn't happy haha
Another excellent video. Don’t know about maritimes, but in Sask I only use the Yamalube winter spec oil change kit because my Grizz needs to operate in the frigid cold for short runs. Kit comes with replacement washers and disposables. Looking forward to more videos.
Hey !!! Man you're the second person who told me about this Winter kit from Yamaha, my dealer didn't even offer it..... maybe its because it doesn't get as cold here as it does out in Sask.... and sometimes we get warm days, and even rain haha weird weather here on the east coast lol thanks again ! I appreciate the support !
Honestly where i am in alberta the yamalube kit is cheaper than buying other wet clutch safe oil and a fram filter. Keep using the yamalube its worth it.
Thank you so much!!! My atv is exactly like yours. So I’m super happy to have found ya! I will be changing my oil soon thanks to you. I have a problem with my starter switch now and I don’t know what’s going on... Anyway thanks again!
Hey man ! congrats on the new bike and thanks for subbing to my channel, I have a few videos on the grizzly 4X4 button fix, installing a Winch, heated grips and rear storage box. Whats wrong with your starter button?
Great vid. I do it a little different jug of moonshine 1/4 jug to start. Very important!!! I use k&n 303 and just take the filter and dip it in the pan of old oil about and inch in for a few seconds. Flip it up and clean off. Screw on with care. Drain plug. Fill with same oil it’s made for the bike. Finish jug of shine with a smile. Cheers bro hope to see more. I just got into the ATV world. Kodiak 700 snorkel kit next week. Canada Rocks eh.
Hey man ! Sounds like you're a real Professional ! hahaha probably have much more fun than I had lol !!! thanks for the support ! and Canada Rocks for sure !
Hey ! I bet you guys have a totally different terrain haha the snow is always fun, your machine stays clean, you can rip it up easily, but it sure does suck shovelling !!!! hahaha thats why I bought a snow blower lol thanks for watching and leaving me a comment !
Hey Jerry ! yeah, like I said, I didn't do it to my old grizzly but I thought I'd give it a try with the new one. I think priming the filter is an old school thing, but some of the old stuff was better ! haha
The only thing difficult about priming the filter on the Grizz is how it mounts. Straight on as opposed to up and down. IMO priming the filter is a good thing.
Oh man I know eh ! but I added just a little and when I threaded it on, it didn't spill out so... Yeah I see a lot of the older generation does the "prime" but it seems like the younger guys dont, not sure if it's maybe just the old machines it was something needed, but I thought I'd give it a try anyway.
Yes sir good vid I’m just about done my break in period on my 2019 kodiak 700....cheers and keep the vids a coming my other channel might be doing some vids but we will see.....
Maritimer I’m loving the ride it’s the best thing I’ve purchased in years.... I’m finally back out in the back country where I spent my youth.....I’m getting some 27” tires and skid plates and go from there....Cheers and keep those vid coming...
Hey ! thats awesome man ! Do you have a Winch? I'd go for that before skid plates. I've never had aftermarket skid plates, always just had stock ones and they work fine. I think first Mod should be Tires, 2nd mod a Winch and 3rd a storage box, but that can be different for everyone.
noticed you used the wolverine oil filter which is longer than the factory stubby your Griz comes with, both made for the 708 just the wolverine filter is longer, so remember that when topping up your oil to factory specs.
hey there from Alberta, I have a Honda and it has a different filter set up. The filter housing is built into the case and you just remove a cover and change out a cartridge. Can't really charge it even if I wanted to.
Hey bud I've been doing that for years with all my oil filters. Never had a problem except depending on the angle how the filter goes back on I may or may not have spillage.
Hey buddy, Yeah I can see how it could leak out a bit on that angle, I don't feel like I put enough in, for it to leak out though. So far so good. thanks for the comment !
Bahahahahahaha that might be the best comment ever award !!! lol I looked it up, and you're right ! it does look like that.... maybe I bought the wrong thing LOL
I always fill the filter full of oil once, then let it soak into the filter and the oil level goes down some, no mess that way. Growing up in a good mechanics home this is the only way I've ever known, first time I heard of a dry filter install i cringed.
saint john N.B here bought a 2015 brand new and only got 342km on it :( lol anyway i'm doing my first oil change tomorrow, i ordered the kit from yamaha, thanks for the vid, different bikes but im learning from watching a few videos that it's the same process regardless the year.
Hey ! You bought a 2015 Grizzly?? thats like the best year for Grizzlies ! Whatever it is, thats an amazing find !! 2015 with low low km on it ! hey man glad you liked the video, hopefully it helps you out a bit !
@@Maritimer yea its a 700 grizzly. Bought it new june 2015 when they were about to bring in a shipment of new body styles, i knew it was my last chance to get a new one with this front end so i impulsively ran out and bought one,. No regrets I love it.
thanks ! glad you liked it, and maybe you could try to change your own oil next time, could save you a few bucks, better in your pocket than a dealers haha More money for beer ! lol
How's she goin'? Nice job and some nice tips on handling this task!!! Thanks for sharing. It was some cold eh!!! I live in Central Nova Scotia somewhat remote but close enough to get to the beer store!!!LOL!!! Take 'er easy!!!
Hey !! thanks for watching and commenting ! a fellow Nova Scotian ! haha Where in Central NS are you? I think everyone in Canada is close to a beer store and a Tims ! lol thanks again !
G'day! Do you still use that oil weight (10w) in the winter? That seems a little too heavy for our (I'm in Ottawa, ON) cold winters. I'd recommend a 5w or 0w for the winter time. Easier on the gaskets and oil pump on startups. Cheers!
Hey man, yes I run the same oil all year, if you look in the owners manual, there is a chart in there for the weight of oil and the ambient temperature it's good to use in. maybe if you were living in the arctic where it's -40 or lower, you may want to run different oil. here in NB we get days of -30, (windshield and moisture kills us haha) but I dont bother with using different oil.
haha thanks George ! I love that tune too, Buddy Washisname and the Other Fellers - The Shed. they also have another song called "Salt Water Joys" and its a really good song, especially if you lived along the coast growing up.
Hey Rene ! thanks for watching ! I Ride just the stock steel Yamaha rims. but I run the Maxxis Big Horn 1.0's, they are a Great all around tire and perfect for my style of riding. there is a Big Horn 2.0 but they don't last as long, and aren't as tough as the 1.0. (They are Lighter though)
Hey ! I never discriminate against any beer lol to be honest I drink a lot of local craft beers, usually IPA's but if its just having a beer, I always have Bud, Coors Banquet and Miller Lite on hand haha
Thx for sharing! Just bought a 2017 Grizz 700 and about to change all the fluids so your video is gonna help. Only thing im not sure of is my left hand lever brake is spongy and not sure if its the pads or if i need to make another adjustment, did you ever have that issue? Cheers from northern ontario!
Greeting from NW Illinois, USA. I'm considering replacing my '08 Arctic Cat 500 ATV with a Grizzly. I'm gonna wait until the 2020's come out and see if they put a 850 in it. I'll probably buy a used Grizzly if they don't. I'm cheap. lol The last oil filter I bought was a K and N had a nut welded on it. Which is awesome. I bought a really long flat head screwdriver for tough oil filters and give it a little pop with a hammer. Works great on my '06 Duramax fuel filter too. lol Thanks for the videos I enjoy them.
Hey Alan ! Nice to see some of the Yank's tuning in to my videos ! haha We'll a Grizzly is a nice step up from your AC500, but if your waiting for a twin cylinder Grizzly, you will wait forever haha all of us Grizzly riders have been begging Yamaha for a Twin, but they don't do it, not sure why. I know seeing the 850 twin in the new Wolverine is a promising site. I doubt it will be in 2020 though. When it comes out, I might upgrade again haha If it comes down to just money, look at the Kodiak 700 too, its cheaper than the Grizzly and is Almost the same machine....
Another gentleman put a link to info. on the 2020 Grizzly and Yamaha isn't going with the 850 yet which is fine because a 700 is a big enough upgrade for me and I'd rather have proven reliability. The Tactical Black EPS SE is calling my name. I might even get lucky and get an LE if I can find one. I wanna try a windshield, seat warmer, and heated grips. lol
Hey, Changing my oil for the first time… I’m having a hard time to find what oil filter I need. Besides just going to the dealer and asking, is there one I could buy at Canadian Tire? Does HF-147 sound right? Thanks! Medicine Hat, Alberta
hey man ! Sorry off the top of my head I have no idea, Im sure if you typed that into google it could help ya more than I can. Sorry man, I always just drop into the dealer.
Good stuff man. I was just looking around for some tips because my new bike is ready for its first service but the Yamaha dealerships are all closed. Looks like I'll have to do it myself because I'm not waiting around for weeks or months to use my new bike. Lol.
Hey Buddy ! yeah you can probably do it all yourself, just getting the oil and stuff might be a pain... I guess you can order off the internet. You owner manual will have your maintenance schedule, thats all I follow, and seems to work haha I wouldn't want to wait to drive that thing either hahaha
great video maan. in the process of getting a 2019 grizzly myself. I'll be watching your videos for more tips. Wish we had trails here like the ones you go to.
Hey !! Oh that's awesome, the '19 went back to the trust 686cc motor, your gonna love the Grizzly, its a great all around machine. No trails where you are? are there any clubs? maybe try to find a club to join, get involved in building a trail system. Thanks for the comment !
@@Maritimer do you know why they went back to a smaller engine? not really any trails around here in Houston, Tx, but i'm sure there are some in the hill country northwest of here. For sure i'll look up some atv club to join. Really enjoy watching your videos. keep up the good work.
We'll from what I heard the old 686 wouldn't pass emissions testing anymore so they contracted Subaru to build them and engine (3 year contract, 16,17,18) they had quite a few warranty claims on the 708cc with smoking issues/burning oil, so in 2019 they got the 686 to pass emissions (it runs a lot hotter than the older 686) and they use their own motors. I've driven the 686 and 708 and the power really isn't that much more noticeable, the 708 seem a bit more snappy, but not much. but my buddies 2015 Grizzly will pull wheelies easier than my 2017. top speed is the same. I'm just going with what I've read over the years. hope it helps !
@@Maritimer I picked up a 2019 kawasaki brute force 750 v twin today. Do you really have to "break in" a new 4wheeler? My sales guy told me to just keep under half throttle and it should be fine. This is my first ever quad so still learning about them. Watching your videos helps a lot.
@@samsungtaco11 Hey man, congrats on the new machines ! those Brutes are awesome ! We'll I've heard some people say a break in is not needed just don't hold it wide open..... me personally I just drove mine gingerly, never going wide open or the same speed for a long time, just going up and down. On elf the best things you can do before you even ride it, is read the owners manual front to back, even the boring safety stuff haha seriously you'll learn a lot about your machine, and sometimes they have Break in stuff and when to do your first service. hope that helps ! Congrats again on the bike !
Hey man ! thanks for checking out my video ! I just use what the owners manual says, there is a chart with the ambient temperatures that you will be riding in, for me it's like -30 to +40 or something like that... then it will say the type of oil i'll need. If you live in a warmer climate you will need a different weight oil.
Great video!! So easy to change the oil on my Grizzly compared to my Can-Am!! I would have stretched it out to about 6 beers!!! No Smelts for a shop snack? Lol!
Yeah man the Grizzly is an easy machine to work on, I've never owned a Can Am, but I've seen plenty of videos, seems like they have plastic covering plastic haha No, No smelts this time lol, I need a Wood Stove ! haha
Helpful video on the oil change. My dad always put oil in the filters before starting the motor, I think it makes good sense. You mentioned the metric system, I was just wondering when you bake something in your oven do you put it on 350° or176.67° 😂 seriously though I’d like to know!
Hey James !! thanks for watching ! We'll you got me there, I cook at 350 not 176.67 ! haha At my work, everything is Standard unit of measurements, probably bc it's been around before we adopted the metic system, Everything is measured in Miles and all out nuts and bolts are standard haha thanks !!
great video i have a 2008 grizzly my shifter started to act up ,it has been hard to shift when running , when shut off it easy to shift , is there something i can do so i dont have this problem shifting
Hey Eric ! Sorry man I havent heard of either of those issues... maybe you can ask on the Yamaha Grizzly Owners Facebook group? Very weird it would be hard to shift while the bike is running but easy when it's off.. I hope you can figure it out ! Probably out of adjustment somewhere.
I have Union hands, I dont have a good manly grip ! hahaha yeah man, for me removing it just makes it a bit easier, you are right though, you dont need to remove it.
Hey! No I don't own a snowmobile, I've been on a few, they are nice, crazy fast! Maybe someday ! we have sled trails connecting that go all around the province of NB.
Hey buddy ! I say just go by what the owners manual says to change it, the Yamaha Engineers know way more than me ! hahaha Awesome to see someone from Texas watching my videos, YT is crazy for that, I'd love to visit texas someday. thank you !
Priming an oil filter on a smaller motor is not as important as it is on a full size vehicle. With the challenge of the position of the filter its really not worth it. plus the oil pump is really fast, so no loss of lubrication. for the first 5 secs :) Its just a personal preference as well. lol
Like many have said, great video. i do have a question, have you had the blue smoke at all since you have owned it? Mine is a '16 so i have the 708 that everybody is talking about. i am a little concerned about the smoke and longevity of the motor. Thinking of selling and getting a new one with the 686 back in it but i really like my bike. Its the limited edition that they dont produce anymore so i am not sure if i want to get rid of it. anyway, just thought i would ask. i have been problem free other than the popping on deceleration. its going back to the shop in a couple days to adjust the fuel mixture per yamaha, we will see if it does anything.
Hey man ! thanks so much ! I haven't had any issues with my 708, I know and feel your concerns for sure, but I have over 2000km and no issues just the same popping on deceleration but I noticed that went down when I started to run Regular gas instead of hi-test/supreme. Also you can do the AIS delete mod (which I plan on doing soon) you just block the hose that goes from your air box into your exhaust (it's to help it pass emission tests) but doesn't hurt the bike, and gets rid of that popping quite a bit. Also I ordered the EHS tuner, it's not really a performance tuner, it changes your fuel/air to make the motor run less lean, so it runs cooler, very good reviews online about it. and lots of threads in the Yamaha Grizzly owners facebook group. you should check that out.
Maritimer thanks for the follow up. Hope you post a video on it when that happens. I will look into it. If I wasn’t in Oregon I would hit you up for a ride. Stay safe, great videos
Hey no problem ! and ya never know, i'd love to travel down to those northern states (Oregon, Montana, N&S Dakota, Wyoming) I watch videos from down that day, and it looks so nice !
Hey Buddy, I see that it takes 2.1 liters of oil, but how many beers does it take? ha ha! Also, doesn’t the oil spill out of the primed filter when you tilt it to spin it On? Great video as usual!
Hey ! we'll how many beers depends how much trouble that oil filter gives you to get off haha Yes if you put too much in, it will leak out while putting it on, but not all of it will come out. I didn't lose any, once you spin the filter on a couple spins, no oil should leak out. Thanks !!
Hey man ! we'll I'm happy, the 686 is a bulletproof motor, and there have been some people having issues with the 708 (mostly the 2016's) but I wish they would pony up and put a 850 twin in the Grizzly.
Hey ! Sure can, I plan on doing a review video on my new bike soon. I love the new Grizzly ! Handling is better, suspension seems much smoother than my old 2008 Grizz. Power steering is great, lots of storage spots, the 708 seems to be a bit more powerful than my old 2008 686cc motor, but that could just be clothing or something, I find the 708 to be basically the same power as the 2014-15 Grizzly 686's, some people say its noticeably more powerful, but I just don't see it to be honest. The 708 does run hot and has a few little pops on deceleration, blocking the AIS and getting a programmer is supposed to help that. Now the new 686's in the 2019+ models, they run hot too, probably to pass emission testing. hope that helps.
you will probably get some smoking when you start it..... I'd go below the full line for sure, just drain a bit out. If you have the 708 motor, I believe you are supposed to check the oil level when the oil is cold too.
Np its never happen to me either but i always make sure to check cause a buddy of mine whoes a atv mechanic at my local shop told me about that. So im just passing on the advice
Hey Maritimer thanks for sharing. I have a question. My Grizz is the same year as yours and we are in the relatively same climate ( northern ontario) and my bike wont start as soon as it gets a little cold, eg: -5 and -7 in the garage. Do you or did you have a similar issue?
Hey ! No, not at all, mine sat for about a month in super cold conditions and I went and it started just as good as it does in summer time. my last camping video, I did a cold start after it sitting outside at -20 all night, no issues at all. tats super weird, Yamaha's as sort of known for being quick starting bikes. You might want to take it in to get checked out...
@@mapleridgefarm1026 No problem ! Good luck ! probably something simple. When you turn the machine on, do you give the Fuel injection time to prime up before trying to start the machine? You can usually hear it when you turn the ignition on..
@@Maritimer Hey Maritimer! just wanted to let you know what my problem was so if someone else in a cold climate with the same problem asks you, you will know. It was my fuel injection relay, as soon as i put a hair dryer on it for a couple minutes i heard my pump again and she fired right up! It was also -15 outside too. Now just have to find out if another relay will fix this issue as dont want to have to take out the hair dryer everytime. Hope this helps someone with this problem.
I don't know about priming the filter , with the holes on the bottom it will all leak out , let it sit for a while ,oil at room temperature and drain the filter back to the clean oil container. Always wipe off the flange for the gasket and the threads where the filter screws on.
Hey Rob, thanks for watching ! Yeah Like I said I haven't primed a filter before, but it didn't leak for me, but I didn't fill the filter up totally. And you're right, warming up the oil, and cleaning the gasket and threads are good ideas and things I always do. Thanks again !
Which Railway Glenn? I work for CN here in Eastern Canada, in the Signals & Communications department. those old cans make good garbages. that rail snake is nasty stuff.
"We are on the metric system like the rest of the world" Meanwhile Canadians measure in feet and inches while they travel by kilometers and then turn around and measure weight in pounds. Can someone please explain why it is mixed up all the time?
hahahaha so true man.... some stuff is just easier in imperial haha and it's even harder b/c with my work (railway) its all in Imperial (miles, feet, inches) so Im always mixing things up haha
@@Maritimer I always found it funny. I noticed it watching dirttrax to be honest lol Hey btw. I new here. I discovered your channel last week and have been watching extensively. Keep up the good work. Also, if you ever find yourself down in the States mainly PA. I'd be more than happy to show you some local trails we have here. Very rocky terrain but very diverse. Everything here is owned by large companies like mines and water authorities so atvs and utv here are a second mode of transportation. There are some atv parks that use coal mining land that otherwise has no use. It is definitely something to see.

But you are probably right and with 40 years experience who am I to argue haha my background is Electronics and Electrical lol
You've racked up some KLM on your machine !!! haha thats awesome ! my buddy Adam has a 2015 with almost 16,000klm on it already haha (He's also a Mechanic)
thanks for the nice words though, always nice to get feedback and if a Mechanic says i'm doing good, then I must be doing something right haha
got on on the lake for the first time this winter; had fun getting to trails I do not get to the rest of the year; last two years only had one week of ice driving each year; Eastern Nova Scotia
Hey man ! thats a really good point ! I've never had that happen but I could see that happening for sure ! thanks !
Thanks man I have the 700 just being lazy I didn’t want to drain any out . Great video keep them coming
haha thanks buddy !
Shed song was good lol. Enjoyed the video dude. Thanks. Grizz started really well for -22c. Cheers from Caledon
Hey ! yeah I love that song !!
Hey ! thanks man ! I have been. Cheers !!
Good Job Bro ! Only thing left is a Trail Ride ! Stay Frosty Friend ! ATB T God Bless
Your Right !! but its -25 today So...... not today haha thanks for watching !
Very good video, thanks I'll be changing my oil soon
Hey ! Glad it helped you out ! Good luck !
Great video from Newfoundland!!
thanks a lot man ! Cheers !
I must be doing it wrong, it takes me 4 beers. N.H.👍
LOL
Hahaha !!!! this oil change took me 3 beer haha Had to run inside and get the 3rd lol
american beer is weaker so it will require more
Great video. Very helpful and great job on the camera angles.
Hey thanks a lot ! they take a while to do but are worth it in the end fo sure !
Love watching you videos here in Mississippi. Wish we got snow down here like you be riding in
Hey ! I bet you guys have a totally different terrain haha the snow is always fun, your machine stays clean, you can rip it up easily, but it sure does suck shovelling !!!! hahaha thats why I bought a snow blower lol thanks for watching and leaving me a comment !
Great job great info .....and i usually have 6 beer oil change ....4 beer bbq steak.....
LOL
hahaha If I had 6 Beers I might forget to put the drain plug back or something haha I ended up having 3 for this job lol
get a 30 pack and skip it , Wait for a warmer day!
@@robc.5745 hahaha I thought about it !!
I've primed every oil filter on every vehicle that I've owned peace of mind you're right
Hey Jerry ! yeah, like I said, I didn't do it to my old grizzly but I thought I'd give it a try with the new one. I think priming the filter is an old school thing, but some of the old stuff was better ! haha
Thank you sir! Helpful information and well done. -Massachusetts
thanks man, glad you liked it and it helped ya !
Great video content, Steve in Sicamous B.C. Cheers.
Hey ! thanks a lot ! glad you like the videos !
Thanks for the video , I found you on Instagram today👍🏻happy trails Ga one of those American Guys😂
Hey Mike ! thanks a lot man ! Cheers buddy !
Yes sir good vid I’m just about done my break in period on my 2019 kodiak 700....cheers and keep the vids a coming my other channel might be doing some vids but we will see.....
Hey ! thank you ! how are you liking the Kodiak?
Hey Rob, I didn't notice that, every time I get a filter it's always the stubby one... you have a good eye my friend haha
hey there from Alberta, I have a Honda and it has a different filter set up. The filter housing is built into the case and you just remove a cover and change out a cartridge. Can't really charge it even if I wanted to.
Hey !! The ol Honda motor can run on canola oil ! haha so reliable ! Nice to see people watching from across Canada, thanks for the comment !
That funnel looks like that tool women use to stand up and pee with in the mountains hahaha. Cool video
We'll I'm glad to hear other ppl do that to the filters, I think it's an old school way.... but to me it makes sense. Thanks for watching !
saint john N.B here bought a 2015 brand new and only got 342km on it :( lol anyway i'm doing my first oil change tomorrow, i ordered the kit from yamaha, thanks for the vid, different bikes but im learning from watching a few videos that it's the same process regardless the year.
Hey ! You bought a 2015 Grizzly?? thats like the best year for Grizzlies ! Whatever it is, thats an amazing find !! 2015 with low low km on it ! hey man glad you liked the video, hopefully it helps you out a bit !
Sussex, NB here. Just got the 2020. Doing my first today
@@masterpker123 congratulations on the purchase buddy, hope she's good to you.... but i'm sure it will be it is a Yamaha lol.
@@Maritimer yea its a 700 grizzly. Bought it new june 2015 when they were about to bring in a shipment of new body styles, i knew it was my last chance to get a new one with this front end so i impulsively ran out and bought one,. No regrets I love it.
Great info vid. Thanks for doing that. Never did that myself. Always had someone else do it for me.
thanks ! glad you liked it, and maybe you could try to change your own oil next time, could save you a few bucks, better in your pocket than a dealers haha More money for beer ! lol
How's she goin'? Nice job and some nice tips on handling this task!!! Thanks for sharing. It was some cold eh!!! I live in Central Nova Scotia somewhat remote but close enough to get to the beer store!!!LOL!!! Take 'er easy!!!
Grampie's Workshop (*sigh) please stop trying so hard...
Hey !! thanks for watching and commenting ! a fellow Nova Scotian ! haha Where in Central NS are you?
Thx my northerly neighbor. Only thing I would do different is Bud Lite.
ahahaha Yes Sir I like a cold Bud once in a while too !
Love the intro music!
haha thanks George ! I love that tune too, Buddy Washisname and the Other Fellers - The Shed. they also have another song called "Salt Water Joys" and its a really good song, especially if you lived along the coast growing up.
Great video and awesome tips. All the best from PEI!
Hey ! thanks buddy ! glad you liked the video. Nice PEI !
Did you change the crush washer on the drain plug?
Just curious-Great Vidya😎
Hey ! I cant remember if I did in this video, sometimes I do, sometimes I dont. You probably should though.
Great video, worked out just fine.. thanks for the info. What wheels and tires are you running, I wanna upgrade , please help.
Hey Rene ! thanks for watching !
Very good narration. Americans drink Canadian beer and Canadians drink US beer too fun.
Hey ! I never discriminate against any beer lol to be honest I drink a lot of local craft beers, usually IPA's but if its just having a beer, I always have Bud, Coors Banquet and Miller Lite on hand haha
Can you fit a taller filter to add volume and reduce heat????
Hey Brian ! I never thought of that, and I'm not sure if you can do it or not.
Hey ! No Sorry I haven't had that issue, I'm sure you could adjust the leaver or maybe check the pads.
Awesome i jus bought one today
Hey man ! Congrats on the new machine ! Hope it is good to ya. they are a very good all around ATV. Cheers !
Alan Andresen -used Grizz price is almost the same as new Grizz price. The resale value of those atv’s is VERY high.
www.yamahacompany.com/2018/09/09/2020-yamaha-grizzly-eps-se-release-date/
When it comes out, I might upgrade again haha
If it comes down to just money, look at the Kodiak 700 too, its cheaper than the Grizzly and is Almost the same machine....
You're right there ! and you don't see too many second hand ones for sale, people tend to keep them forever.
Sorry man, I always just drop into the dealer.
i put oil inn al filters before install if I can, atv, cars, or trucks. horizontal filter like this, about half full and spin it on fast.
Nice, glad to see someone else does it and I'm not crazy haha I've heard a few people do the same.
Awesome man!
thanks buddy
great video maan. in the process of getting a 2019 grizzly myself.
Thank you from Idaho US. Great job! I think I saw 10W 40. Is that for your area or pretty universal?
Hey man ! thanks for checking out my video ! I just use what the owners manual says, there is a chart with the ambient temperatures that you will be riding in, for me it's like -30 to +40 or something like that... then it will say the type of oil i'll need. If you live in a warmer climate you will need a different weight oil.
good video. good bike
Hey ! thanks Josh !
That is way too frickin' cold to be changing oil. If I can see my breath in my garage, I go back in the house!
hahaha man I agree, it was freezing !!! I need a heated garage lol for sure on my next house ! lol
I agree cord sucks... insulate your shed put a wood stove in there and you would be fine
Great video!! So easy to change the oil on my Grizzly compared to my Can-Am!! I would have stretched it out to about 6 beers!!! No Smelts for a shop snack? Lol!
Yeah man the Grizzly is an easy machine to work on, I've never owned a Can Am, but I've seen plenty of videos, seems like they have plastic covering plastic haha No, No smelts this time lol, I need a Wood Stove ! haha
I like this guy.
Heyyy ! thanks man !!
We'll you got me there, I cook at 350 not 176.67 ! haha At my work, everything is Standard unit of measurements, probably bc it's been around before we adopted the metic system, Everything is measured in Miles and all out nuts and bolts are standard haha thanks !!
great video i have a 2008 grizzly my shifter started to act up ,it has been hard to shift when running , when shut off it easy to shift , is there something i can do so i dont have this problem shifting
another question about gas gauge , it always flashing so i never know how much i actually have in gas
Hey Eric ! Sorry man I havent heard of either of those issues... maybe you can ask on the Yamaha Grizzly Owners Facebook group? Very weird it would be hard to shift while the bike is running but easy when it's off.. I hope you can figure it out ! Probably out of adjustment somewhere.
Still prime my 09 griz. 2.22 quarts. 👍 Ohio U.S.
Hey ! that's good to hear ! thanks !
You dont need undo the wheel arch, that access panel hooks on, one 10mm bolt i think and a hook
No I dont Need to take it off, I just take it off to make it easier to get my hands in there.
@@Maritimer a fair point, it makes it much easier but it's a faff taking it off, I just gripped the old one with huge pullers
I have Union hands, I dont have a good manly grip ! hahaha yeah man, for me removing it just makes it a bit easier, you are right though, you dont need to remove it.
Nice video. Do you do any sledding? We are finally getting snow in Md - lol. Although it’s not much!! thanks for posting.
Hey! No I don't own a snowmobile, I've been on a few, they are nice, crazy fast! Maybe someday ! we have sled trails connecting that go all around the province of NB.
We are hoping to get some sledding in soon.... damn snow.... we go to our property in upstate Pa. and yes they are crazy fast -lol.
TOP JOB, MICK FROM UK
thanks man !! Hope all is well across the pond !
how many kms did your old grizzley have on it when you got your new one? great videos enjoy watching from the north Thompson of British Columbia
Hey, the old one only had just over 8000klm, Sold it to a friend and she's still on the trail.
nice 👍 mines a 2017 grizz SE after how many miles because i live in Houston,Tx lol you recommend do the oil change?? thanks love your camping videos
With the challenge of the position of the filter its really not worth it. plus the oil pump is really fast, so no loss of lubrication. for the first 5 secs :) Its just a personal preference as well. lol
Hey thanks for the info ! I appreciate it ! Like I said I don't normally do this, just thought i'd try it.
Maritimer hit me up if that ever happens. I can show you some good trails, damn good steaks and damn good beer!
Sounds good to me ! thanks !
AS long as the oil light doesnt come on... You're good.... lol
hahahaaha You're right for sure ! lol !!!
what tire size are u driving,,any mods on them..shimm maybe ?
Hey ! No I don't have any shim mods or clutching, they are 26" Big Horn 1.0 tires. BH measure 1" taller than their actual size b/c of the tread.
Thanks !!
How do you feel about the new grizzly going back to the Yamaha built 686?
Hey man ! we'll I'm happy, the 686 is a bulletproof motor, and there have been some people having issues with the 708 (mostly the 2016's) but I wish they would pony up and put a 850 twin in the Grizzly.
New to the channel can you give your opinion on the bike handling power ?? Etc basically how you like it thanks !
What if I’m just a little above full on dip stick ?
you will probably get some smoking when you start it..... I'd go below the full line for sure, just drain a bit out. If you have the 708 motor, I believe you are supposed to check the oil level when the oil is cold too.
Man when a certain someone changed oil in Pat's shop he just let the oil go everywhere.
haha I thought about just letting the oil drain onto the floor, it would help the floor from rotting haha
Np its never happen to me either but i always make sure to check cause a buddy of mine whoes a atv mechanic at my local shop told me about that. So im just passing on the advice
thanks man, I appreciate it ! I'll keep that in mind.
@@Maritimer hmmm ya dam ok thanks for letting me know.
@@mapleridgefarm1026 No problem ! Good luck ! probably something simple. When you turn the machine on, do you give the Fuel injection time to prime up before trying to start the machine? You can usually hear it when you turn the ignition on..
@@Maritimer No I didnt know i was supposed to but i will give that a try, if i dont hear a sound what does that mean?
I do the Oil change the same way with my 2018 grizzly
I’m In NJ

Any problem with yours using oil. Thanks
Hey ! No I haven't had any issue with mine yet, if I do, I'll let yahs know. my 708 has been pretty good.
Changing the oil on my 2018 Grizzly required 4.3 quarts. Of beer, that is.

Which Railway Glenn? I work for CN here in Eastern Canada, in the Signals & Communications department. those old cans make good garbages. that rail snake is nasty stuff.

"We are on the metric system like the rest of the world"
Meanwhile Canadians measure in feet and inches while they travel by kilometers and then turn around and measure weight in pounds.
I noticed it watching dirttrax to be honest lol
Hey btw.
@@chadmiller8019 Thanks a lot man, glad to have ya as a sub ! I appreciate the support.
Oh yeah I'd love to come ride down there sometime, and Rocky diverse terrain sound sperfect ! haha
👍
