I laugh every time she says her name!
You're supposed to laugh when she says her name. That's the whole point of the character. She's a parody on ethnic (particularly Hispanic) local news reporters. We had one in Houston in the late 1970s named Elma Barrrrrrrrerrrrrrrrrrrra, er, I mean Barrera, who rolled her "r's" for a good 30 seconds, making sure you knew how her name was pronounced in Spanish, whether you cared or not.
Her real name is Teresa Parente and she is actually quite accomplished in the industry. Shes hot as well....

An MWC approach to a News channel team.
Miranda's career being stuck or stranded, a camera man who is either an idiot or just annoying, a News host who doesn't respect her but keeps trying to go to bed with her, a producer who she tries to sweeten up to for better work but to who she barely exists, an older colleague who is basically a drunk.

Miranda
Once a promising journalist, as promising as you can get in the MWC universe, her career took a bad turn somewhere and she ended up being stuck at a local news program and having to report the most idiotic and awful news stories on the spot which she often sees as a form of torture.
It has been a while since I saw all the segments with Miranda but I have in mind that her private life is as bad a shape as her career.
Her husband ran off with younger woman and left her with big debts to pay. Understandably she is holding somewhat of a grudge against the male sex at the moment and it doesn't help she has a couple of male colleagues and a superior who embody some of the worst male character traits.
Miranda has a bit of a 'better than thou' attitude, having expected to have made it big a long time ago because she deserves it, even having written her own book by now had things gone as she had expected.
Despite the situation she is currently she still thinks of herself better than most people around her with the exception of the producer of the news channel to who she sucks up to in the hope that it will lead to better new reporting assignments.
Of course her attitude often comes back to bite her in the ass.
The camera man
He is an unwanted tag-along who keeps tagging along as he is Miranda's standard camera support.
The camera man would be a source of annoyance to Miranda and other characters and I am tempted to make him a bit of an idiot. (I don't want to make him an innocent idiot however as he would be a sort of punching bag and I do want it to be deserved)
He would have this degree of childlike wonder, still being really excited he gets to work on a news reporting program and being surrounded by all these electronic toys and getting to play with them.
He would also be very gullible.
He might often ask Miranda, the News show host, and the older colleague for advice as he wants to be a reporter to.
Miranda despite not always liking him as he gets her into trouble from time to time, does give him genuine advice.
The advice of the News show host is in general utterly useless as its very self centered.
And the advice of the older journalist is often plain outdated.
The News host
The 'face' of the news program and Miranda's main rival.
He is the current darling of the news team and he wants to keep it that way, so whenever there is something that could upset this he would try some way to worm in and take the spotlight.
He primarily lives for fame and sex.
The News host acts very suave but its very fake. He is not sophisticated at all.
Also despite how he acts he doesn't respect women.
He is also a liar, a cheater, and a coward while pretending to be more brave than he really is.
He looks down on Miranda as being some field reporter but he is still trying to get into bed with her.
She however sees through his advances and deserving sees him as a pig.
Both he and Miranda are currying the producer of the news channel for his favor, and constantly try to upstage and undermine each other.
The producer
This is the only real successful character, a yuppie type with a good future
I don't have much on him yet but this guy has been doing well for such a long time that he has basically stopped noticing 'the little people'.
If you are not in his circle you basically don't exist to him.
The News host is just some pretty face he has propped up as it brings in the female watchers.
He barely notices Miranda other than that she is 'the woman they usually sent in to do the stories no self respecting journalist would do'.
Older colleague
If I have to describe him in one sentence it would be “An alcoholic Walter Conkrite who is mostly kept around because the older audience finds him comforting.”
Thing is, he stopped caring a long time ago. All he wants to do is do his lines and once the camera is off get liquored up.
Decades ago he was the face of the news channel and he still likes to reminisce about those days when journalism had standards, though in truth he wasn't that good.
He is somewhat pissed off that he got pushed out of the picture by younger people like Miranda and the News host, people who according to him have no journalistic integrity.

Something else to add would be those people who do the actual on the ground research and keep their ear to the ground for news stories for the network and news team to cover, they could be interns fresh out of college, hipster types rhat wanna make history and make a difference and find a way to get out if their shit hole small town.

Oh, I forgot about those people. What kind of flaws would you have in mind for such a character? I am almost starting to think a paranoid conspiracy nut guy, one of those new age optimist flowery types that perhaps should go a little easier on the herbal teas and possibly magic bongs (and of course oh so spiritual), being in communion with mother Earth, or a computer nerd type who is into stuff none of the others get, laughs at his own 'intelligent' jokes, and has the almost pedantic need to correct people when they make some kind of grammar or fact error (not exactly Big Bang Theory levels but close to it). Not sure if these would work though.
They probably end up being background characters.
I would have lived to have seen a Miranda spinoff. Her in the news department. Would have been a hilarious show.

Well, the final season didn't have many of the recurring characters in many episodes. Also, she would only be there when it fit. Not every episode was a news story.
She was hilarious, but let's be honest. She had one joke. It's only funny if used sparingly.
She was on it just enough. Anymore and she would have gotten to be too much. The writers used her perfectly.

I saw a few episodes. Yes, that was a good little series. They even had an episode where Ed O'neil, Katey Segal (not sure if that is how you spell her name) and Christina Applegate all played themselves. They were going to do a reunion show.
Speaking of Ed O'neil, whenever I see him on Modern Family, I keep expect his character to sasy "I scored four touchdowns in a single game!"

Definitely. It was confusing why they attempted to revived the failed series "Top of the Heap". A more established character like Miranda from MWC would have been more likely to succeed.
I thought the best (not shown here) was in the snow scene you see part of here, when she also said "They pass on sending any of the Nordic men from the newsroom to report here, and instead choose a woman who is from a country named after the equator." (Ecuador, of course)

Because there are reporters who never have a "latino" accent in their regular speech, and probably have no connection to Latin America, and if they did, it was through a latino husband and she got his last name and just assume the role in order to reach out to their "people". What's hilarious about it is this is the only group of people that actually perform this feat - check out the skit from In Loving Color, and you'll see what I mean.
