      I'm glad you changed the title to something less over generalized and click baity. I strongly suggest hiring black people before making content supposedly about black people; especially when you are on the outside looking in. You don't see black ppl making videos about why Asians are culture vulturing hip-hop, rap, and b boy dance. Your original title was garbage and I only came here to hate watch it🤢 #themoreyouknow

      jaren williams Connie makes videos about all kinds of fashion. It has nothing to do with her race. What does her being Asian have to do with her learning about a subculture and giving these other women a platform to show off their designs? This is just one video in a whole season of cultures being shown. You don’t need to be that race to learn about that race. That’s totally contradicting your desire to make race less important

      @@alexamandes8872 what does a couple of black people wearing costumes have to do with all black people dressing up as super heroes... Exactly... This comment isn't for you and she knows what she ignorantly did. You DO need to be from a race to speak about what that entire race is doing. you don't see me making a video about why Mexicans won't stop illegally crossing the border like a bunch of third world degenerates. Speaking for a culture that isn't yours is exactly how you end up with someone like you having the audacity to chastise me for not agreeing with this vulture using my culture for click bait. you wouldn't have a comment section full of people telling her to change the title if you don't need to be from a race to make sweeping generalizations about it. FYI I never said race should be less important so you can get off my thread with your illinformed, self entitled, willfully ignorant arse. The title was click bait and the content is cliche. Just bc you got pregnant by Jorge down at home Depot doesn't make your all lives matter rhetoric less repulsive. If you as a black Americans identify with the African heritage, that is valid and indisputable. if you are black American and do not feel a connection to your heritage due to the effects of slavery, that is also valid and indisputable. it's okay to root your identity in your past past ancestors, and it's also okay to root your identity in what your parents or what you grew up around (your more recent history). Both are valid. That's why it's called identity. It's who YOU see when you look in the mirror.

    Afrofuturism is about creating and imagining a future in which Black people maintain and pay homage to the past through self-expression and cultural exploration. For so long the future has lacked black and brown faces, and through this expression we can center ourselves

      You must be white because only white people think other races give two toots about them. White people have always been a global minority. Thats not new. I agree, optimism is punk. To be punk is to be angry about oppression, and a prerequisite to that is believing that liberation is *possible* (not necessarily that it is inevitable, or even likely).
      I did find it strange though that Delta was talking like there was no way to find out about her past. She really should consider looking into her genealogy (if she hasn't already that is). There's a lot that we're able to do now which we didn't used to be able to because of digitization and DNA testing. More than a few African-Americans have been able to trace their lineage back to Africa using modern techniques. The science is no longer as reliant on extensive paper trails or official records and new information about many African nations has come to light recently (via the discovery of new artifacts, better ethnographic surveys, and re-examining of old sources).

      When you say it like that it sound like your trying to dissociate from your roots, "I'm American not African" type of thing, but not many AA's know where they're from, and this is a documentary for them, who knows this could inspire them to find out more about their roots and where they come from. If you don't want that this is not a documentary for you. I don't know how you still found a problem with this

    • @librateen632
      @librateen632 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I don't understand why Continental Africans would get offended when we say we are not African. I've had CA tell me to my face as an AA that they are more "African" than me. Not everyone Black is African culturally. This documentary paints AA's as 'lost' which is why I have a problem with it. I just took a DNA test and know exactly where I am from in Africa, but am far too removed from those countries to feel any connection. However, when I go to the South I feel most connected to my recent ancestors struggle and our American history. We are Americans of African descent PERIOD. We built this country and it's culture, and it would be a shame to not acknowledge that or have pride in it. I feel most connect to my AA culture@@soph3378

    • @soph3378
      @soph3378 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@librateen632 I'm not offended, I replied because I felt op had some sort of anger towards AA's who do feel more connected to their African side. If you feel more connected to your American culture good for you, AA's who feel more of their African side should be allowed to. Besides it's not a take one leave one, it's literally a fusion of both.

    • @librateen632
      @librateen632 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@soph3378 I get it. Identity isn't linear. I feel as though the "lost" narrative is the dominant one for AA's and it would've been nice if the documentary would show both sides to the AA experience to showcase different perspectives.

    Afrofuturism has been a thing for at least 60years, and probably longer. It took off in the 50's. As a Black child of the 60's, back when my love for it was seen as being 'weird' , I find it a bit funny that now that it has jumped to mainstream culture, it's looked at as something new, edgy and empowering, especially since for myself and others it was just a way of life.

    (CORRECTION)
    @1:25 Afro futurism isn’t exclusive to African American (ethnicity) narratives although it was started by African Americans. Afro futurism is about the known greatness and unlimited potential of Black African people regardless if they are North American , South American, Australian or from Africa and what African people as a whole can be without the colonization and invasion of Europeans,Arabs and other outside forces.
    -Afro people exist outside of America most live in Latin South America and the Caribbean . Most Africans were brought to South America particular Brazil . Afro futurism is all kinds of black people UNITING TOGETHER .

We are Americans of African descent. Just like their are latinos of african descent, and Caribbeans. We all got to our new home the same way, through the transatlantic slave trade. Lost is a choice and state of mind. You can know exactly where you are from and still be lost spiritually. I love my heritage here in America, and I love African culture as well.

    I'd beg to differ that Afrofuturism is an American thing. Before I even thought of America in any context (and not even as a vacation spot) I'd been fascinated with some books written by Nigerian authors. The fact that someone else like me could write amazing science fiction that I could understand in terms of cultural cues was amazing to me.
    When I saw Wakanda, I immediately recalled the imagery that was described in "Zahrah the Windseeker" by Nnedi Okorafor. Everything about can be described as 'Afrofuturism,' a term I didn't have for the genre of Nigerian science fiction I read as a thirteen year old.
    Just my two cents on the matter. Regardless, this was an interesting piece.
    By the way, Delta is AMAZING!
