Awesome talk! I think we as a community are too focused on the technical details and not enough on the higher-level incentives and business models. Open-source protocols can't easily default to ad-based revenue, but that is how almost all social apps make their money and pay developers.
The discovery of different/new apps could be solved with a similar tech as the early days of the internet, webrings. Eventually a nostr search engine will happen. Just like the internet.

That's a missing piece in social networks. Nostr can get rid of the advertisers, reduce incentive for clickbait. Peer to peer micro payments may change the incentives model to encourage providing value to each other. P2P payments may encourage deeper relationships over high quantity of followers, because a smaller group of motivated followers can return more money than a lot of passive tourist followers
