9:40 disabling location access for Calendar is a bad idea if you travel to different timezones. Your calendar will not correctly adjust to time zone changes and you’ll miss notifications and/or generally make a mess of your calendar.
Additionally you can set alerts to activate with travel time included. This will not work if the calendar app does not know where you are. I thought this was an odd example he used.
I really enjoy your channel, thank you. I aim to have my devices set up to perform at their best but I changed quite a few things just from your advice today. Looking forward to the next installment
Very handy tip about battery usage. I have WhatsApp installed and a friend asked me if I used it about a week ago so I launched it but didn't log in, just closed it again and told them "No". Activity showed WhatsApp had used 1 minute on screen but 54 minutes in the background, despite me not even being logged in!!
Regarding accessibility, my friend's finger/hand shakes making it challenging to successfully tap an item. What setting needs to change to tell the phone to be tolerant of finger/screen movment shaking?
The only app that I think is ok to keep location access set to always allow is the native weather app, and that is because if you want real-time weather alerts, those won’t work unless location access is set to always allow.
The home screen is the default screen which displays all your app icons, and the lock screen the screen which prominently displays the time when your phone is locked but the screen is on. If they're using a lot of battery sounds like your phone is set to wait a long time before it turns the screen off.
I have my charge limit set to 85% but would it make any difference if I raised it to 90%? Is most of the damage done during the stage between 90% and 100% I only ask because every bit of battery helps but I don’t want to do any damage…
I prefer not to have the % shown for battery, this way I dont look at it all the time and worry about how much I have left. Just by looking at the battery animation I pretty much know how much I have left anyways so dont need it. And when I want to know how much I have left I just swipe down to see it in the control center.
Maybe also mention that one can set the charge limit back to 100% if one expects to need more battery the next day. The phone then asks if this is till tomorrow morning or permanent. Nice feature I had use for the last few days.
If have have the charge limit set to anything less than 100% then optimised charging turns off and is greyed out. Does anyone know if there’s something I’m missing?
You've essentially created your own optimized charging, by setting your own limit. Remove the limit and you can then enable it. It's essentially a case of, do you want to set your own limit, or have the phone figure it out for you?
Great video, I have most of the settings with just one difference, with Siri, always listening. It must always have the microphone on, which is using battery. I just prefer to have this turned off, except under special situations, wouldn’t it be nice if we had that option to turn this on or off in our control center, rather having to go back in and change settings
I added a second keyboard to test the feature and it's now displaying bilingual keyboard. How do I undo that and return to the original English keyboard only. Thanks
Just follow the same steps, but on the Keyboards screen, where you chose Add New Keyboard, tap the Edit button in the top right corner, and delete the keyboard you no longer want.
If you have a microsoft outlook or Exchange mailbox mailbox set up on your iPhone, there is no "never" option in Display Auto-Lock. Apple says this is at Microsoft's request. I don't know what the background reason is, but it is interesting that Apple is granting such requests to Microsoft, and without informing the users.
I don't mind tracking, as long as it is isolated to the app/website itself, not across apps. If you're going to see ads, I'd prefer to see ones that at least are personalized to me instead of say tampons or such. But we shouldn't be so fearful of tracking, which is mostly analytics platforms analyzing visitor behavior and identifying usefulness or roadblocks. I, specifically, use website data to identify behaviors where visitors are identifying trouble areas so we can go in and fix them. Analytics isn't always used in a malicious way but we get lumped into those bad actors, which is unfortunate. At no point do we track/isolate any one user or sell that data.
He kind of already explained that in the video just before he mentioned this. It will impact “functionality” (probably poor choice in word) by in his example.. Not allowing your “smart” phone to be able to make smart suggestions to you about using a certain app or mapping service to give directions to a certain location during a certain time that your phone would have learnt is a part of your routine. Simply put, by disabling this feature you won’t get app suggestions or reminders about needing to leave early to miss traffic and take a certain route.
@@RobbieDK-91 if so, then it is smart feature for buisness people but for normal people it doesn't make sense for such battery hogging feature, I disable as I often see location indicator
Because I don't believe that everyone should set their capacity to 80%. Everyone's need is different. If it were that simple, Apple would cap it themselves.
My new iPhone suggest a limit of 95%. From the charge level in the evening this seems to be a proper suggestion for me. If I were setting it to 80% I often would have to charge during the day which reduces the usefulness of the phone.
Am I the only one who has opportunity throughout the day to charge my phone for 15 min at a whack? In my car, at my desk, while I eat breakfast in the morning. In all the years I have owned an iPhone I have never had to worry that the thing would die near the end of the day. When I get home it’s usually at 80%. It charges in my car on the way home. Why is this so tough for some?
@@deconstructor2234 I will go by this philosophy (just replace it), but thought a reasonable (just 5%) recommendation by the phone I just follow as it does not negatively affect me. I really do not care about an iPhone battery. Replacing is cheap and where I live I have Apple Shops that could do the replacement. The price is low enough so why bother with that. But if I can postpone it a bit (replacement takes a bit of time) I will try it.

WhatsApp (as well as other Meta apps) takes a lot of background usage.
It happens with all apps they can get stuck in a loop. Even when you have closed them. Its recommended to restart your device daily/weekly
Did you mute when you say Siri or did youtube? Is it so it doesn't activate other's phones?
Another excellent video! Thanks!
The most useful iPhone learning in the entire TH-cam, really thank u
Thx man just changed some of these settings on my 14 pro max hopefully one day I get the 15 pro max or the 16 pro max I hope 🙏😀🥹

What exactly is Home and Lock screen? 9 times out of 10 it's one of the top 3-5 things that consumes battery for me.
The home screen is the default screen which displays all your app icons, and the lock screen the screen which prominently displays the time when your phone is locked but the screen is on. If they're using a lot of battery sounds like your phone is set to wait a long time before it turns the screen off.
Just curious why ‘accessibility’ shows up as sub heading when tapping into app settings such as phone, photos etc.
Any explanation for this?
Thanks!
