Ich bin die Strecke - allerdings in Nord-Süd-Richtung - im Jahr 1999 gefahren, als es den Tunnel auf der Südseite noch nicht gab, welcher heute die gefährlichste Passage entschärft. Das war ganz schön aufregend.

I've been over the Gavia a number of times and always enjoyed it. Of course, I was on a motorcycle, but still... 😈
I have been on 19 2000+ alpine passes, and I think this is my favorite. Yes, the traffic could be horrible, especially when the weather is good.
stelvio for me is still the best but this one is amazing too!
A classic pass from The Tour of Italy cycling race, a very small mountain road through a wonderful landscape, had a great time watching the drive, thanks a lot for sharing it, greetings from a roadtripper from Germany!

Well done - that was a scary drive! I've been on some single track Alpine roads before, but none that were so narrow, constantly on the edge of a huge drop and with virtually no passing places. The only way I'd do this road is if they stopped all the traffic coming the other way first!

All the alpione mountain passes were once just foot paths. It seems much of Gavia Pass still is.

Der Gavia war bis vor wenigen Jahren noch sehr viel schwerer zu befahren. Die eine Seite ist mittlerweile sehr gut ausgebaut (neu geteert, breiter, kaum Steinbruch) Die andere Seite wird etwas entspannter, wenn man sehr voraus schauend und defen fährt, an den breiten Stellen den Gegenverkehr passieren lässt und DANN erst in die Engstellen fährt, also ganz anders als der Mini-Fahrer ;)
Was für eine Pause macht ihr da ab Minute 31:30 mit dem Mini. Ich kann seitdem nicht mehr einschlafen
