The neighbors who lived across the street (from me) were from India. They invited us to their Holi celebration one year. It was a blast! The food was great, and we had fun throwing Holi powder at each other, sort of like paintball, hehe. One of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had. I will never forget it.
I love Hindu festivals. I got it celebrate Diwali 6 years ago and since then our hindu friends invite us for everything. The vibe, the gratitude, the food, the music, everything is top class. I love their culture and glad they maintain it in spite of moving to different countries. PS: Festivals have vegetarian food and Indians know how to cook vegetarian. That part of the show was meh.
depends on the community whether you get meat or not. If they are Gujrati/Marwari you wont. If they are Punjabi/Bengali you will get meat sometimes alcohol too

I was in a lot of depression for last many months. My friend came home on Holi, I went to his house this Holi. I enjoyed Holi with other friends there as well and all the depression vanished. A new positive energy started again in my body & mind, I lost in joyness. These festivals are just amazing.
Holi is becoming bigger and bigger in the US. One of my Pakistani friends who has never been to holi went with us last weekend. She described it as the "best day of her life" and would celebrate it bigger and better next year

Holi now is kinda sophisticated and played privately in parties, when I was a kid, Holi was something different. Complete strangers meeting and playing Holi as if they are childhood friends. Holi is festival of love. Krishna is at the centre of this event. One prominent thing abt krishna is his equal love for all beings. Thats why hindus cherish vegetarianism. However we dont condemn personal food choices. But on this auspicious day, i wd urge all of us to restrain from eating any animal. In India, this is a transition period of season and start of spring season. In this transition , mosquitoes increase . The evening fire on the Holi is a public event . Actually speaking Holi is a festival to fire up all the bad thoughts in your mind and forget all of those and start newly, there is this fire that has to be done on the day of Holi which contains wood, grass, and coconut leaf to cover and coconut, natural herbs and flowers inside which purifies the air around you in a way. Traditionally all the people gather together they walk around this fire and they curs whoever they want to on that fire and they get all those bad thoughts out of their minds and throw them into the fire. Next day is rangpanchami and on that day you celebrate the festival of colours.
The neighbors who lived across the street (from me) were from India. They invited us to their Holi celebration one year. It was a blast! The food was great, and we had fun throwing Holi powder at each other, sort of like paintball, hehe. One of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had. I will never forget it.

I love Hindu festivals. I got it celebrate Diwali 6 years ago and since then our hindu friends invite us for everything. The vibe, the gratitude, the food, the music, everything is top class. I love their culture and glad they maintain it in spite of moving to different countries. PS: Festivals have vegetarian food and Indians know how to cook vegetarian. That part of the show was meh.
depends on the community whether you get meat or not. If they are Gujrati/Marwari you wont. If they are Punjabi/Bengali you will get meat sometimes alcohol too

I was in a lot of depression for last many months.
My friend came home on Holi, I went to his house this Holi. I enjoyed Holi with other friends there as well and all the depression vanished. A new positive energy started again in my body & mind, I lost in joyness.

It would be even older as it is a celebration of arrival of Spring & also good over evil as it commemorates Narasimha Narayana's victory over Hiranyakashipu. Radha Krishna & friends also celebrated it in their own way so it also represents divine love of Radha Krishna, which makes it phenomenally beautiful in every sense. 🙏🌼
It started with the death of Holika the sister of evil asur Hiranyakashyap to save the great devotee of lord Narsingh the previous incarnation of lord Krishna much older time then lord Krishna. But yes Krishna made it more colourful and joyous may be the colour symbolised the colours of mother Nature during this time.
It's much more older , when Bhakt Prahlada survived Holika and it was started first at Multan ( now in Pakistan) whose king was Hiranyakashapu
It was originally celebrated with water than color color was later on added into the water to make it colorful but now just powder left and water has completely gone

Holi now is kinda sophisticated and played privately in parties, when I was a kid, Holi was something different. Complete strangers meeting and playing Holi as if they are childhood friends. Holi is festival of love. Krishna is at the centre of this event. One prominent thing abt krishna is his equal love for all beings. Thats why hindus cherish vegetarianism. However we dont condemn personal food choices. But on this auspicious day, i wd urge all of us to restrain from eating any animal. Not becoz i m saying it, but becoz ur humanity has a capacity to expand and bring in other beings around in it. The love 💕 is our true nature. There are many things behind the festival Holi . It is a festival of colors messaging that make life colorful collectively . Forget hate , sorrow and be joyful .
In India, this is a transition period of season and start of spring season. In this transition , mosquitoes increase . The evening fire on the Holi is a public event . That public event at nearly all houses sanitize the environment killing many bacteria , viruses present in the air . Mosquitoes too are get killed .
This festival allows to remove psychological stress at mass level as well as individual level .
In short it is a very good beneficial festival .

Actually speaking Holi is a festival to fire up all the bad thoughts in your mind and forget all of those and start newly, there is this fire that has to be done on the day of Holi which contains wood, grass, and coconut leaf to cover and coconut, natural herbs and flowers inside which purifies the air around you in a way. Traditionally all the people gather together they walk around this fire and they curs whoever they want to on that fire and they get all those bad thoughts out of their minds and throw them into the fire. Next day is rangpanchami and on that day you celebrate the festival of colours.
