    Believe me the sand boxes were full, but no amount of sand would compensate for a dead 90tonne diesel. Having said that, you must admit it was a fabulous show. Better than just another fast accent which we know the Duke is capable of anyway!
    Probable the best video ever of a locos in trouble!!! 5 definite stars.
    Incidentally, assistance from the diesel was by phone call only, not the whistle.

    Fantastic vid. Watched it many times since you posted it.
    Talk about the best seat in the house. Its almost like you were the film director.
    I was filming in the support coach and I've just posted the vid on my channel if you care to take a peek.
    Its hardly surprising we ground to halt with a dead diesel and the line limit of 10 laden coaches behind us. The arrangement was that the Queens loco assisted us if required, except it wouldn't power up!

    Another trip I was on. If the Air pump on The Duke hadn't been on the fritz at Bristol the 67 wouldn't have been on the train and the Duke probably wouldn't have slipped. Turns out the 67 couldn't be put in gear on the move without being shut down and Rebooted.

    The 67 WAS running, but couldnt 'power up' and needed to be shut down and rebooted before being able to be 'put in gear'.
    It was running past me at aller, and, according to most of the forums discussions I have read, that was the reason........

    So why didn't they have the 67 running in readiness, instead of all that palaver? Seems silly to me.

    67's are spanish not Yank! or Canadian for (66's) yes it has a GM power plant but they wee built in Valencia Spain.

    I doubt the driver of 71000 had her in full forward gear and I also suspect the driver of the diesel had his loco in neutral when running, he has to be stationary to put in gear. Otherwise brilliantly filmed, right place right time.👍🇦🇺

    Certainly sounded like they were 'whistling' for assistance quite a way down the Bank!
    Wonder why it took so long!
    that could have been alot worse, but glad nothing happened to the Duke, and DAMN shame I opted for Aller, although if you look at my video, she wasnt carrying much speed through Aller though.....

    Incidentally the Duke was hauled down to Newport for that weekends runs by, guess what, 2 Class 40s. Not because there was anything wrong with it, but simply because EWS wanted to move them down to Bristol from the Manchester area and it was them supplying the footplate crew for the Duke, so they killed 3 birds with one stone and moved the lot in one go. It meant the Duke used no coal on the run down which must be a first. I was on the footplate most of the time, it was so quiet.
